Introduction

This is a tempo deck that mostly uses creatures for tempo purposes. If you deny your opponent's important pieces while playing creatures, you should have a significant advantage during the mid-game. As for any tempo deck, timing is everything.

Often, games are played by slowing down the early game as much as possible with control all while playing small creatures, then stop controlling (letting the opponent develop) but win before they can by using your wide board (with Rally of Wings for example).

Lands

The most important thing is to have {U} on turn 1 to cast Mausoleum Wanderer and Spectral Sailor. Hallowed Fountain and Flooded Strand can provide that {U} on turn 1 whilst also providing {W}. The Glacial Fortresses are basically free since all other lands are islands or plains.

As for the number of lands, knowing that most cards are have mana value 2 or 3 and Watcher of the Spheres offers a discount, 21 lands is chosen.
