What can i say, a very good solid basis for a deck! Well done! And it has quite some flavor as well! However, as per usual I have some improvements that could be made that retain the flavor:

-4 razortooth rats - these are good, however, there are better options out there.-1 sewer rats - these are not as good as it first seems, they are too much of a mana sink.-3 arcane teachings - these are just fine, but just do not do enough for three mana.-4 lava spike - being able to hit creatures is important, so it.-4 bladed pinions - these are not very good for what they do. it helps with typhoid.

+4 Pestilence Rats - these add some redundancy to the build.+4 Ravenous Rats - a very good rats creature+4 Pillar of Flame should replace the lava spike, since it can target creatures.+4 Blightning - lets put some lightning in those sands!

For going through creatures, it would be best to go for Hideous Visage over pinions, but stricktly as a sb card. For the SB I would recommend more rats like Rotting Rats and more discard like Duress and LD like Rain of Tears or more flavorfully, Evil Presence or Contaminated Ground .

Thank you! I love me some flavor...adds to the fun and I can see you hopped on the flavor train in your commentary! Your recommendations are always welcome and they are really good. I like the redundancy option so I can pretty much guarantee my opponent is going to have a bad time.

If running Evil Presence or Contaminated Ground on the SB, might be fun to add in either Funeral Charm or Nighthaze . Enchant opponent's land, give one of the big rats FC of NH to give them Swampwalk, profit! I'm leaning towards FC because of its flexibility options.

I like the direction of the deck and this seems very viable to use! Several notes:

  • If I had to vote most criminally underplayed card in pauper, it would be Blightning.

  • Funeral charm is very cool because it has the mode of instant speed discard, one of very few cards to do so. There are more cards with the plainswalk keyword (Old Fogey being the best) than instant speed discard (One with Nothing being the best, and being RARE), so good one there.

  • However, just the four of those swamp makers will not be enough. there are three cards in pauper to be able to do this. I would venture to go to 7 in the MB and SB, probably moving the choking sands to the SB. But not really necessary.

  • For sure, more discard will be helpful. I would consider the rotting rats in the MB. If you do end up including them, there is a rat with the hellbent keyword, which will be helpful in this variant of the deck.

  • Deviant Glee seems to me like the best way to make your rats go to the dome.

This will be a fun deck. Should move fast too.

  • I looked at Blighting during the original building and thought I had put it on the maybe board though apparently not so. Glad you brought it up because it's brutal for not much cost and will definitely be MB. I hate when good cards are tragically underplayed.
  • I could not believe Funeral Charm was only 1 black mana AND a common. Threw a party at that discovery.
  • 3rd pauper swamp maker being Tainted Well correct? It costs more than Contaminated Ground but the draw effect (to get more rats of course!) is nice. Plus I think most opponents will avoid tapping the enchanted lands because of the impact on their life...although... it would be a great way to transform lands for my use while screwing with my opponent's plans. Hmm...
  • I thought about Gobhobbler Rats but for now I'm leaving him out. After testing if I find my hand empty more often than not, I'll make room for him and Rotting Rats since they seem to be a good pair.
  • I'm feeling a lot of Deviant Glee at the idea of including that card. Oh the shenanigans to be had.

I'm in for updates. Favorite movie, favorite format, what could possibly go wrong?

Have you gotten any playtests in?

February 6, 2014 9:41 p.m.

Such a good movie! One of my favorites as well (family favorite actually, we quote it all the time).

I have not had a chance to playtest at all. I have the cards I need either in the mail or have trades set up (no MTGO for me) Hoping to get to Tuesday pauper night on Feb 18. I have a few changes I need to make to the list so it's current with discussions here.

I will make sure to post test results soon as I can and keep the update coming.

Pack Rat would fit in really well here!

Great card. Sadly it's a rare so I can't run it in a pauper deck.

Yes. Just yes.

You want me to upvote?

As you wish.

By the way, Blood Crypt or Bloodstained Mire are both unnecessarily expensive, but totally fit the "horrors of the Fire Swamp" theme.

Upvotes always welcome. This deck has been a lot of fun to play.

Theme +1for those two lands but they are rare and don't fit with a pauper deck part so thats a bummer.

Why Searing Spear and not just simply Lightning Bolt? And n a rat deck, believe me, Chittering Rats are a must.
