Teysa Karlov: Thrull Tribal B100 EDH

Commander / EDH WB (Orzhov)

B100 EDH RULES:

Here follows the three comprehensive rules that define the format:

  • $100 Budget: The complete cost of the deck must be below $100 for the TCG Player Avg price. This is where the B100 comes from for those that are curious. This value is calculated on the left side of this page. The correct value is the lesser of the 2 values, as this is the price using the cheapest versions available. The cost of the general is included and basic lands do not add to the total cost.
  • Commander Cost Limit: The cost of the commander cannot exceed $10 utilizing the TCG Player Avg price. This is to avoid decks that abuse overly powerful commanders.
  • Additional Banlist: This is an optional list of cards that outclass other cards by such a large margin and generally don't add anything to the game in terms of interesting gameplay.

DECK STRATEGY:

The primary focus of this deck are as follows:

  • Thrull Tribal: This deck is comprised mostly of thrull creature type and is intended for B100 EDH low level tier tribal match-ups; however, it can also be successful in casual games as well. Here are a few examples of thrulls.
  • Sacrifice: Some thrulls possess the ability to sacrifice themselves at will for a beneficial effect. This ability to sacrifice oneself is at the heart of the strategy of this deck. So, here a few examples of cards that can enable other thrulls to end their own existence.
  • Death Triggers: Utilizing the thrulls ability to sacrifice themselves along with multiple cards that have death triggers, this deck can achieve the following objectives: forcing opponents to sacrifice creatures, life-gain, loss of life, card advantage, and mana acceleration. Teysa Karlov will only magnify these effects if on the board. Here are a few cards with death triggers.

Some other synergies within the deck:

  • Risky Heavy Loss of Life: This deck plays with cards that can drain large amounts of your life pool. This strategy is hopefully counter-balanced by the next synergy listed. Here are just a few of the many examples of cards with heavy life loss.
  • Life-gain: Because the deck has the aforementioned loss of life embedded into the strategy, the ability of many thrulls and other cards in the deck provide life-gain to hopefully keep you alive. Here are a few examples of cards with this ability.

FEATURED CARD:

Thrull Champion

Here are three strengths of the featured card:

  • Creature - Thrull: This creature was the first and only thrull lord to be printed in Magic the Gathering. Here are a list of some other thrulls it will grant its' +1/+1 bonus to.
  • Activated Ability: Thrull Champions' activated ability is written : Gain control of target Thrull for as long as you control Thrull Champion. Here are a few relevant creatures the champion could steal that are sometimes played in EDH.
  • Artwork: The Fallen Empires expansion has to have some of my favorite art of all of Magic the Gathering. The dark atmosphere of the set combined with abstract images set it apart from other sets. Here are a few examples of other artwork I like from the set.
