The goal here is not to be archenemy. Archenemy is only fun if you're willing to stand against 3 other people who all hate you. Thantis, the Warweaver is not that; she is the shadow hiding behind the battle, forcing enemies to attack one another. With your curses, Curse of Opulence and Curse of Bounty, as well as cards like Cruel Entertainment and Worst Fears, you will be able to run the politics of the board into the ground without taking much notice, and watch as the battlefield erupts into a ravenous free-for-all. Scooping up the victory is easy when the last man standing at the table is exhausted and weak from destroying your enemies for you. Thantis is not Left or Right - she's right in the middle of her web, and so is everyone at the table.

I love Spiders as a tribe. I love their designs and their art and their flavor text. I originally wanted to build a Golgari token-mayhem deck around Ishkanah, Grafwidow, but as I was building it, I found Thantis, the Warweaver and fell in love with the havoc she promises. This is not a quiet, slow buildup deck. Thantis pioneers the whole board to crash as quickly as humanly possible. Essentially, your games won't last long, and they'll be a blast to play even if you lose.

Your goal is pretty straightforward. Thantis won't be able to come out for a few turns, so you'll want to focus growing your mana pool with Cultivate, Grow from the Ashes, Kodama's Reach, and either Sol Ring or Worn Powerstone. You'll want a bunch of mana so you're not sitting there doing nothing while the table kills itself. You want to be pulling the strings with your curses, Curse of Opulence and Curse of Bounty, as well as making sure you don't look like the bad guy by giving your opponents cards like Xantcha, Sleeper Agent to play with while you get Thantis out of her command zone.

Once Thantis is out, the free-for-all will begin. People will be hesitant to attack you because they'll just be growing your already giant spider (if you didn't look at Thantis, the Warweaver's rules text yet, do yourself a favor), plus you've put your curses on others. You'll be wheeling out deterrents regularly once the fighting begins with Varchild, Betrayer of Kjeldor, Rite of the Raging Storm, Sandwurm Convergence, No Mercy, Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs, and of course, the lovely Havoc Festival, to name a few of the more outstanding strategies. The rest are relatively self-explanatory - if anyone swings at you, you'll end up with a massive, crazy deadly spider that you can gift to others with Assault Suit if you see fit.

Nobody will see you coming until it's too late, and if they do, stopping you will prove difficult. Rally behind your war spider, and watch the table collide.
