That Chick Is Narsty, Dude (Help Wanted)

Commander / EDH* Control RUW (Jeskai, America) Theme/Gimmick

Xelgion

I saw Narset as the opportunity to play silly cards that cost way too much for what they do and make them work. This deck is intended to be competitive, but with a little bit of humor thrown in.

In order for Narset to work, she needs to resolve and swing as early as possible, then she needs to stay around, and then you combo-win.

These are the steps.

Early Game

Ramp

  1. Chromatic Lantern
  2. Azorius Signet
  3. Boros Signet
  4. Izzet Signet
  5. Coalition Relic
  6. Grim Monolith
  7. Sol Ring
  8. Gilded Lotus

Non-Artifact Ramp

  1. Solemn Simulacrum
  2. Generator Servant
  3. Grand Arbiter Augustin IV
  4. Phyrexian Metamorph
  5. Temple of the False God
  6. Tezzeret the Seeker
These are so important because my land-base is so colorless heavy. (I know creatures aren't that good with Narset, but both Solemn and Augustin make her come out at least 1 turn earlier, and generator servant does so with haste, and phyrexian metamorph might as well read "Copy target Sol Ring/Grim Monolith"

Haste Providers

  1. Need for Speed
  2. Lightning Greaves
  3. Generator Servant
  4. Hall of the Bandit Lord
  5. Dragon Breath
Giving Narset haste is basically ramping her ability by a turn, so we definitely want to do that, no matter the cost.

Mid-game

Protection

Carefree Combat

  1. Darksteel Plate
  2. Maze of Ith
  3. Godsend
  4. Whispersilk Cloak
  5. Venser, the Sojourner
  6. Rogue's Passage

(Mostly) Free Counterspells

  1. Sunforger
  2. Counterflux
  3. Render Silent
  4. Suffocating Blast
  5. Mindbreak Trap
  6. Muddle the Mixture
  7. Counterspell

Equipment is good with Narset, her first strike likes power buffs and they are repeatable, unlike enchantments (excluding Dragon Wings and Dragon Breath). I like counter spells because I don't have too many ways of making Narset uncounterable (literally only Cavern of Souls and Grand Abolisher). About half of them can be fetched and played with Sunforger, which is a little silly, but provides utility (I still run more solid counterspells)

Deck Fixing

  1. Brainstorm
  2. Scroll Rack
  3. Soothsaying
  4. Enlightened Tutor
  5. Mystical Tutor
  6. Long-Term Plans
  7. Muddle the Mixture

These are to make sure that I can get something good, and also can help early on to make sure I get enough lands. Muddle the Mixture is especially nice for grabbing Lightning Greaves or Scroll Rack

Removal / Distruption

  1. Path to Exile
  2. Swords to Plowshares
  3. Supreme Verdict
  4. Ajani Vengeant
  5. Dack Fayden
  6. Grand Abolisher
  7. Cataclysm
This is probably the weakest part of my deck. I usually rely on it going off before other people's decks in order to win. I slam the two good white 1 drop removal spells in, but I'm not sure if its good enough, I am thinking about adding the blue 1 drop removal spells, Pongify and Rapid Hybridization.

Late Game

Fat Spells

  1. Thieves' Auction
  2. Blatant Thievery
  3. Enter the Infinite
  4. Insurrection
  5. Time Stretch
  6. Omniscience
  7. Mind's Desire
  8. Reverse the Sands

These are the main way you win with this deck, playing the otherwise unplayable

Combo

Insta-Win

  1. Aggravated Assault + Sword of Feast and Famine
  2. Infinite Attack Steps, Infinite Narset Triggers.
  3. Infinite Attack Steps

Merely Strong

  1. Decree of Annihilation + Narset, Enlightened Master + Venser, the Sojourner
  2. Swing with Narset, then post-combat have Venser +2 loyalty on her, then cast Decree of Annihilation, only thing that remains are enchantments, planeswalkers, libraries, and Narset.
  3. Boros Charm + Narset, Enlightened Master + Obliterate
  4. One-sided wipe
  5. Brago, King Eternal + Leyline of Anticipation + Strionic Resonator
  6. Infinite Brago Triggers, which with artifacts that collectively tap for 3 or more makes Infinite Mana at Instant Speed, as a way of casting expensive stuff without Narset.
  7. Narset, Enlightened Master + Strionic Resonator
  8. Double the fun
  9. Decree of Annihilation + Divine Intervention + Narset, Enlightened Master
  10. It's a draw for everyone!
  11. Decree of Annihilation + Mind's Desire + Narset, Enlightened Master
  12. Swing, and then ideally either swing again or copy Narset's trigger with Strionic Resonator, then Decree of Annihilation, cast everything else in your hand, then finally Mind's Desire, and you can get a very sizable board presence while they have very little to nothing left.
  13. Mind's Desire + Narset, Enlightened Master + Seize the Day
  14. Rack up a massive storm count
  15. Enter the Infinite + Omniscience
  16. You probably win if this happens
  17. Enter the Infinite + Narset, Enlightened Master + Scroll Rack
  18. You probably win if this happens

That pretty much sums up the deck, I am interested in getting feedback as to changes/comments (did I leave out an obvious/awesome card?), so leave a note!
