Messing around with dem Hydras. Currently trying to find some better turn 2-3 synergy with low drop permanents in order to get the ball rolling faster. Any suggestions whatsoever would be much appreciated.
Sample Strategies
Burst of Strength- Great in many situations. When using Kalonian Hydra, it allows you to make things real ugly real fast. On Gyre Sage, it gives you a helluva lot of mana. As an instant, after your opponent declares his attackers, you can un-tap a bigger monster to royally ruin their day.
Increasing Savagery- Delicious delicious mana on Gyre Sage, while at the same time almost paying for it's own flashback cost. On everyone else...well, it makes things hurt.
Bioshift- A cheap one mana that can easily save your butt, or be used for utility. Did your Primordial Hydra just get Doom Bladed? Simply Bioshift everything onto someone else. Otherwise, a great utility, allowing you to better control your needs at any given time
Sides/Counterstrategies
Plasm Control- Against decks that rely heavily on using a specific combo (for example, another Hydra deck, or a deck based on a sorcery), Plasm control can really ruin their day. Not only do you get to stop whatever big play they're trying to make, you also get just that much more mana to work with on your turn, setting you up for a potential finishing move.
Give/ Take and Steady Progress- These sides are helpful if you want to try to maintain card advantage against your opponent. With Steady Progress, you can draw a card as well as power up the creatures you already have out on the field (making it a more optimal mid-game play), and more copies of Give/ Take will allow you to be more flexible with counters as well as gives you the potential to draw A LOT if you need to.
Inexorable Tide- If you find that a game is dragging on, you may want to put these in in order pick up the pace a little bit. Proliferate is a great tactic, however keep in mind it only works if counters are already present, so it's best to use this card in conjunction with easy counter generators like Burst of Strength, Give/ Take, Increasing Savagery...or anything really.
Autumn's Veil- The "Lolnope" card against the main combo disrupting colors. That's really all it does.
Note: For optimal mana to card distribution, side Simic Charm/Vorel of the Hull Clade/ Elusive Krasis to maintain green blue ratio.
