Great decklist with huge synergy. I hope it works well. I think your key innovation was adding Tethmos High Priest because I can see that being awesome.

Thank you fightkiing I've just acquired all the cards for this recently and it's super fun to play.

Lots of sneaky little plays you can make on your turn/EOT/and during your opponents turn.

Try it out if you haven't had a go!

I would -3 Lagonna-Band Trailblazer +1 Favored Hoplite and Move your 2x Tethmos High Priest from side board to main.

Nahhhh, I've been playtesting this alot and the High Priest is usually subbed in when against Burn or mono black. Just due to removal.

But the Trailblazer's are nice meat and potatoes to this deck so im keepin em in! :P

Caligula: I played against mono-black a few times today, and I think I'm going to put Tethmos High Priest . It seems to be the best way to come back from the onslaught of removal that deck has. I'm using Banishing Light in the board as well, though. I think that might be the best solution for Pack Rat and Desecration Demon .

Thanks for the update forbiddenvoid I will look into it some more for sure. A lot of people I play against don't play mono black so it's good to know what this struggles against.

Went 2 and 2 at FNM with this deck... needs some tweaks to combat against aggro. Red decks owned me.

I was really excited to try this deck out for some funsies. Built this deck and lost. Im not sure what went wrong. It seemed really strong. Selesnia stomped me. Turn 2 he had a 3/3 centaur from Call of the Conclave and while i was trying to build my side of the board i got destroyed. Same with rakdos. By turn 4 it was pretty much over. Unless you wanted block and let your creatures die your pretty open to damage. Im defiantly putting Banishing Light in the sideboard.

Im going to try taking out favored hoplite and put in Hypnotic Siren .I also took out Rootborn Defenses and put in Ajani, Caller of the Pride .

Any suggestions?

It's funny I stumble on this deck after having built one of my own using a couple of the same combos with Battlefield Thaumaturge . Here's my version.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/victorious-azorius/

It's a bit different than yours, mainly in the idea that it needs a few more control elements for early in the match to protect you creatures. Render Silent is pretty useful in this regard, especially against Red decks. Silence really wrecks them.

Also, I wonder about a couple things. You are generating a lot of tokens with your Launch the Fleet , so why not run a Spear of Heliod to give them some teeth? Ajani's Presence is also a card I'd strongly consider.

You're presentation is very good though! I shall make note of it. Good luck!

I suspected this deck would struggle against aggro heavy decks, Things like Cyclonic Rift and Gods Willing can help keep the early game creature's safe.

Even adding in Detention Sphere and maybe using Brave the Elements can help keep aggro off your back..

Banishing Light would be good to run in here for sure. It's just 3 CMC for it so I swayed away from it.

My final version of this deck I have at home is different as well, Just in the balancing and what not.

Akroan Skyguard might be a good replacement as well.

Thank you for actually playing this for me haha, I haven't had a chance to take it anywhere. Keep coming with the updates and us as a community might be able to break the Thaumaturge ;)

Acolyte's Reward might work in here too. Still thinking about it lol

i think Akroan Skyguard would be a great replacement for Artisan of Forms

Caligula says... #17

I think not!

Artisan can be anything you want anytime. She's very versatile.

NEVER TAKE HER OUT!!!!... I turned her into my opponents Boros reckoner then killed his, gave mine protection from red then put a second copy out of her out, activated, made 2nd boros reckoner, then killed him with his own creature... his face... priceless.

I didnt take her out. In fact, I played my buddy the other day and he was playing his rakdos deck. He played master of cruelties and I turned my artisan of forms into his master and killed him with it. It was pretty sweet

Love the deck. I wonder if Thaumaturge has a place in Modern. There are literally dozens of cards that could take advantage of his ability, and it's easy enough to target him with a 0 cmc spell to give him protection.

I love this deck so much, and I was wondering how you might cope with the loss of gridlock coming in the next rotation? I was thinking Voyages end might make for a fair replacement. You could also try something like - 4 gridlock, + 2 curse of the swine, and +2 Voyages end. I tried my hand at an extremely similar deck on here as well, replacing the phasing rootborn defences with ajani's presence.

Caligula says... #22

I suppose that would work as well!

I haven't been playing this deck tbh. I've been getting more into modern :P

July 2, 2014 8:58 p.m.

Well, I've pretty much made this deck my main :D I absolutely love it, but at last FNM I made a guy playing a Minotaur deck quit for good :(

Hahaa beautiful, I'm glad your making it work out

It's why I came onto this site, So I could try and make crazy builds workout and spread that love!

I'm happy to hear it though, Maybe next time you can post some results!

July 2, 2014 10:20 p.m.

Would you consider adding in Polymorphist's Jest to the decklist? It has uses and can almost replace the Gridlock once it rotates out. Voyage's End and Ajani's Presence are also good candidates to add in as well.
