NOTE ON THE NAME: I thought I was pretty clever to think up such a clever name for my brand-new, innovative, outta nowhere deck ... until a friend told me to go watch Round 5 of the DTK protour. As you can imagine, my heart sank when I found out that it was already an established deck, and that the name had already been discovered and for all intents and purposes patented -_-.
So, I'd just like to make clear, this deck is not me copying Jamie Parke, as I had not encountered any form of this deck before making it. However, I acknowledge that unfortunately someone did indeed think of this before me, much to my chagrin.
Now, read on dear friends.
INTRODUCTION
This is a chromantiflayer dredge deck. I'd like this to be able to hold it's own against competitive decks, but at the moment I'd say its at best a tier 2 deck. Help with sideboard is what I need most. Flicker, Abzan midrange, Junk madness, mono black devotion, B/W tokens and U/B mill are some significant decks that I often play against. So, advice as to what to play against them is awesome!
To win, you dredge a Chromanticore, Sylvan Caryatid, Drogskol Reaver and any other card as soon as possible. Then, play a
Soulflayer
and swing with a 4/4 double strike lifelink trample haste vigilance hexproof flyer. However, so far I've found that if I resolve a chromantiflayer - Chromanticore
+
Soulflayer
(or Akroma, Angel of Wrath
+
Soulflayer
, it's the same thing really but chromanticore fits the flavour) the opponent is looking to be under some serious pressure. There are dredge engines that double as threats, delve creatures and some reanimator to bring back a chromanticore if you're feeling in the mood ...
DREDGE
Golgari Grave-Troll - dredge 6 is INSANE. If I get to late game, he can be a real bomb because my graveyard should be full of creatures, especially if I can't drop a
Soulflayer
.
Commune with the Gods - basically self-mill 5, plus I can dig for a soulflayer if I need one.
Grisly Salvage - Similar to commune with gods, except at instant speed and can get me lands if I am running short.
Lotleth Troll
- even though he does not strictly dredge me anything, he can help to do a variety of things. Firstly, he can let me discard a Chromanticore if I end up with one in hand. Secondly, he is a magnet for removal and if left unchecked can put significant pressure on the opponent.
Dakmor Salvage - nice to be able to return this to my hand if it gets milled, and gets an extra 2 cards in my graveyard. However, on principle I do not like running lands that enter tapped so I only included 2.
SOULFOOD
Soulflayer
- the center of the deck, the biggest wincon, and my favourite card. This is Cairn wanderer for BB that is more stable once resolved. What's not to love? Chromanticore
+
Soulflayer
= chromantiflayer = win. souflayer + chromanticore + sylvan caryatid = nigh unremovable chromantiflayer = Insanely depressing time for your opponent (win).
Chromanticore - the main enabler for soulflayer, and can be reanimated with Unburial Rites to be a real beast' on its own (tehe).
Sylvan Caryatid - Ramp, hexproof enabler. Also great to block pesky attackers
Akroma, Angel of Wrath - basically a chromanticore but with haste instead of lifeline, which can be useful if youre in a tricky spot or need that last bit of damage.
REANIMATOR
Unburial Rites - Secondary win-enabler, to hit anything a soulflayer doesn't - or to provide some fuel lategame if we get into a topdeck scenario.
