Modern Casual —Aug. 14, 2018

So despite needing serious adjustment in the description, I'm adding a quick update.

This current version beat out Tron Eldrazi, Artifacts, and mono red burn. Granted, they all won game one as they are pretty quick and tough to deal with decks and the sideboard proved crucial to my follow-on wins. If I can get enough time to establish an angel on my board, I'm pretty set for the game.

The sideboard is tailored to the top tiered decks in modern and seems pretty standard as far as that goes. The mainboard is designed to deal with a creature-heavy deck (like Eldrazi), and then you side out creature removal in favor of whatever you're up against.

I almost exclusively had to tough out the first few turns of every game until I could get an Angel on the board. Resplendent Angel is frigging amazing in this deck and actually provides early game board stability better than I thought she would. Baneslayer Angel and Lyra Dawnbringerfoil are VERY heavy closers and really tough to deal with once they're on the table.

All-in-all, I had a ton of fun and will try to take this to a more competitive venue later this week and see how it does.

Well ... the name was catchy, to say the least. I actually appreciate that you took the time to really spell out your deck: nice attention to detail. I particularly like that you included your "budget friendly" section for cheapskates like me.

But let's be real here: how can you have an angel deck without Serra Angel's?!

Haha, thanks for the up-vote :) I still got my first Serra Angel sitting safely in a plastic sleeve, but point taken!

If you're looking for a creature that taps for white have you considered [Avacyn's Pilgrim]? It fits the flavor better and costs 1 less.

Avacyn's Pilgrim is a great idea and I've considered making this a white/green deck or at least a white/green version of this kind of deck and that card would fit perfectly. Thanks for the input!

Where are you getting the info that a few of these cards have gotten the axe? MTG site doesn't reflect that info yet.

You'll have to be more specific, I'm not sure which "ax" you're talking about.

How did you find out that Celestial Mantle is banned? The WoTC banned list doesn't show it as being banned in Modern. That "axe" is a figure of speech. "To get the axe" means to be cut.

I'm tracking with you now: I didn't mean to say that it was added to the banned list, I only meant to say that it didn't make the cut with my deck ... I gave it the axe, no one else did :)

I've been thinking of building an angel deck for a while now, and this is first one that really caught my eye. I was just wondering on what your thoughts of maybe adding in a Quicksilver Amulet might be?

Quicksilver Amulet would be a great fit! My Biggest problem with this deck right now is getting Avacyn, Angel of Hope out since she has a summon cost of 8. I've been limiting my Angel selection for this deck to those with a converted mana cost of 5 or less, which has really helped with getting angels out on the table. I've kept Avacyn in since I simply love that card, but I have a hard time getting out enough land for her to be effective/before the game's already over. There are other angels which could really benefit from a card like that Amulet as well: Angelic Skirmisher, Iona, Shield of Emeria, and Akroma, Angel of Wrath for example.

Thanks for the upvote and suggestion!

Avacyn is the best xD

I've been play testing a few different combinations with mana ramping and what not as that's all that's really been stopping me from building an angel deck, they have such high mana cost. Anyway I found both Extraplanar Lens and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx to be really effective, I managed to get Avacyn out on turn five several times. Nykthos is really good due to the high devotion so many angels seems to have, especially Archangel of Tithes

Hi, Love your deck. You should consider running Sunbeam Spellbomb i belive is better than Elixir of Immortality in every way, it costs less to gain life, and if u don't need it u can draw a card for just one mana. On top of it it's a really cheap card

Thanks for the up-votes! I did not even know Sunbeam Spellbomb existed, and I definitely agree that it does better than Elixir so thanks for the suggestion!

Emerge Unscathed for side or maybe!?!

November 18, 2016 3:42 a.m.

Panharmonicon+ Angelic Accord + Razor Barrier + Apostole's Blessing + Elixir of Immortality + Lone Missionary + Cloudshift !?! 4 of each!?! Thoughts?

Have you tried Avacyn's Pilgrim instead or with Gold Myr? Might be quite useful having a one-drop that does the same thing.

I'd also suggest Path of Bravery in your mainboard. It's really useful for me in my deck like this (Serra Ascendancy! (With Lyra on T3!)).

Hexaflexagon says... #22

Instead of Pacifism, you might want Oblivion Ring as for more, you get a lot more targeting options and doesn't help things like Ascend or powering Ghalta, Primal Hunger out.

What are your thoughts on using Oketra's Monument in this deck? It's good for some more mana ramp and creates tokens for speedbumping attacks.
