Dragons of Tarkir Update —April 8, 2015

Ob Nixilis, Unshackled is an interesting card to be sure. But I've discovered that it only prevents players from making incidental tutors, such as ramp spells, and if they really need it, they'll take the big chunk in life and get something to blow him out anyway, if possible. He gets really big, and is pretty evasive, but he ended up being the cut for Sidisi, Undead Vizier, who has already proven to be quite good in initial playtests.

Spitting Image was a hard cut to make, as it was a fine value engine with Life from the Loam. That being said, I can only think of one game where it decisively was the card that won me the game, and I wanted to make room for the very flexible Silumgar's Command.

Lastly, as humorous as Garruk, Apex Predator was, he was less tutorable, more expensive, and overall slower than our new Dragonlord Silumgar. On top of that, stealing a planeswalker is straight up value compared to destroying one. It even does a better impression of Garruk's other plus, giving us a 3/5 flying deathtouch body, which pairs very well with his predecessor. I can't even think of a time where his ultimate wasn't horridly win-more, so the swap was pretty much obvious.

All of these swaps were for a card that cost 1 less mana, as well, improving the overall mana balance of the deck.

Why are there so many promos and foils? This makes it 20x times more expensive if someone wanted to buy it.

Because it is an accurate representation of the deck. Is this a thing I'm not supposed to do?

Well, I'm glad you think highly of the deck. The budget version is still pretty expensive, but it does shave quite a bit off.
