ok, so too many Elspeths like mentioned above. you should have many walkers with the same subtype (even if different cards) cause you can only have 1 out at a time so the rest just clog up the deck. Elspeth, Knight-Errant is arguably the best iteration of her, at least the best for this deck so go with just that. have 2 of that and 2 Ajani and Gideon is fine.
next take out Spear of Heliod . its not really that great and honestly IMO Path of Bravery is better 90% of the time. if you have a decent amount of creatures (tokens or normal ones), once you get a Path out you should be getting a decent amount of life just for attacking, which keeps you alive and gets them the bonus really easily.
you have a soldier deck, so Field Marshal would fit in perfect if you can afford him. if not, Auriok Steelshaper works in a pinch, with some good equipment such as Veteran's Armaments . also, best white removal that isnt outrageously expensive is Path to Exile .

Ok, I'll put Elspeth Tirel
in the life gain deck I'm working on. Spears out, two more honors in its place. I think my lgs has two Field Marshal
's I'll pick them up when I can. If I can get another Elspeth, Knight-Errant
I'll replace Elspeth, Sun's Champion
with her.

Regarding your sideboard, you could consider:
- Kataki, War's Wage
-- although not a soldier, he (she? it?) is fairly backbreaking against Affinity
- Stony Silence
-- also good vs affinity and shuts down Birthing Pod
- Ethersworn Canonist
-- also not a soldier but great vs Storm, which generally doesn't run many answers
- Rest in Peace -- one of the best graveyard hate cards there is
All these types of decks are prominent in Modern.

Outright drop one of your Captains of the Watch. You have 61 cards and I question this decks ability to get one out in a timely manner, would be a pity to have both in hand during that period of time. On a related note, since this deck isn't token oriented, maybe drop a couple plains for a couple Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx .

Ooh, yeah, didn't notice the 61 cards. Cut one!
I'm not sure Captain of the Watch
is great for you, honestly. 6 mana is too much to expect to reliably cast it so it's only really good with Preeminent Captain
. of which you only run three.
April 22, 2014 1:25 p.m.
m4ver1k and KrosanTusker ~ I dropped the one Captain of the Watch . They are/were pretty much in here as placeholders until I could/can get 2 more Hero of Bladehold
Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is something I'm actually considering getting, I'm just not sure I want to put 10+ dollars on a land. However, If I did get them, I could see myself being able to run 3 Captain of the Watch 's and get a fourth Preeminent Captain to bring them out more reliably?
I like all the suggestions you guys threw up. All great sideboard options. One's I'm most interested in are Rest in Peace
and Stony Silence
(since I'm sure I already have one of each and it would be easier to acquire the other 1 of each I would want to run).
I do want 1 more Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
I've been thinking about 2 Torpor Orb , 2 Nevermore , and 3 Grand Abolisher
April 22, 2014 3:38 p.m.
Preeminent Captain is a 3 drop. Remember that you have to tap 3x lands to activate and take advantage of Nykthos. So it will not benefit Preeminent Captain.
It would make Captain of the Watch's easier to get out, but I'd play test it a bit. Maybe even proxy these suggestions beforehand and make sure you like the way it plays out. In fact, do that.
Rest in Peace/Stony Silence/Torpor Orb are good sideboard options. I'd actually run Ghost Quarter in the sideboard as at least a 3x of after those initial 3. Ghost Quarter slows down Storm, Tron, and Infect pretty well.
April 22, 2014 4:54 p.m.
I probably should clearify, I was thinking the fourth preeminent captain in order to help bring out captain of the watch more frequently along with the shrine.
I forgot all about ghost quarter.
April 22, 2014 8:02 p.m.
Preeminent Captain only provides 1 devotion, compared to say Elite Inquisitor. Not that it's the wrong choice, but just to playtest it a bit because it doesn't really add enough devotion if that's your reasoning for more Captain of the Watch.

Instead of the Elite Vanguard , you should use Soldier of the Pantheon instead.

Ooh, just looked it over again. Looks like you enjoy getting out lots of creatures quickly. I think you would love Crusader of Odric . Amazing card, I run them in mine.
April 27, 2014 3:57 a.m.
I forgot about Soldier of the Pantheon
, probably because I only have one. I would use him over the vanguard if I could find a spot in here for him.
Crusader of Odric
is intriguing, and I had considered her for the deck. Although I think I like Mirror Entity
better than her if I could find away to fit them in. The 3 slot is pretty full right now with the marshal's and captains.

Otherwise nice!
Its also pretty budget as far as modern goes, so I might make it.
+1
April 27, 2014 1:29 p.m.
FangedRamen why thank you so much :). Yes it is a pretty budget modern deck, which is what I was going for :). If you do take it, please keep me updated on how it does. I myself do not really have the time to take it to my LGS's when they hold modern tournaments. Soldier of the Pantheon
certainly is better than Elite Vanguard
and will be replaced on my maybe-board when I get the chance.
April 27, 2014 1:51 p.m.
Wait, why is Ethersworn Canonist an obvious hate card? Seeing how you have 0 artifacts in your mainboard, wouldn't it slow your deck down more than your opponent's most of the time? Also, Adaptive Automaton might do well.
May 12, 2014 7:03 p.m.
CkajLanoa - Ethersworn Canonist
stops Storm decks and other combo decks dead in their tracks. Also, with Preeminent Captain
, it allows me to put a soldier onto my field, not play it. Which would allow me to get around the "players can't play more than 1 non-artifact spell this turn" clause.
Adaptive Automaton is a nice card I over looked. My only problem with it, is I cannot cheat it onto the field due to it being a construct before it enters. Also, I am pretty swelled up on the 3 drop slot, especially if I decide to add in a fourth Preeminent Captain . What would you replace with it? Maybe both Spear of Heliod 's and an Honor of the Pure ? I can't see me using less than three of it.

I like this. I gotta say, if I were to make a mono-White Soldier-tribal, it would be a lot like this. +1..
As far as suggestions are concerned, I also feel as though a single Veteran's Armaments belongs in here. Maybe trade out 1x Captain of the Watch? But it's hard to say because I know Captain of the Watch can be a bomb when cheated in with Preeminent Captain..
November 25, 2014 3:38 p.m.
I've been thinking about putting at least one back in here. I could take out one Raise the Alarm. I really want to put the Honor of the Pure in here, but I don't know what to remove for them is the tough part. I'll probably just save them for a different deck, simply because I do not want to remove all of my tokens.

Made a little update. Could use some thoughts on running Angel of Jubilation in the side against black and pod decks? Viability of Mentor of the Meek in this deck with so many creature buffs? The other "maybe" cards? How's my sideboard look?

Angel of Jubilation actually seems insane against Pod.
January 11, 2015 8:27 a.m.
That's what I'm saying. I'm probably going to put 2 in the Side, but don't know what to take out of the side for it. The Intrepid Heros?

Only thing I can say is have Rest in Peace over the cage in your sideboard. You could add a couple Windbrisk Heights and possibly 1-2 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx.
