+1ing both decks for your continued support of budget aggro decks. Woot looking forward to the coming change. I'm working on a mono red aggro deck myself. Is there a particular reason you broke up the two colors? Is it just the lack of Rakdos Cackler and Rakdos Shred-Freak that make running the Mogis's Marauder not worth it?

Satyr Hoplite is a consideration if you're planning on rolling out with the Akroan Crusader and want to lean more towards heroic effects and their triggers, but I don't know what you would replace with him. Personally I'm hoping something else is revealed that we can take the crusader out all together.

Akroan Line Breaker might be a good sideboard card against non-red decks, but I also hesitate to add it in prior to seeing what the meta is. With tri color there might be a high concentration of decks with red in them. I really want to like the Akroan series but the conditional trigger bothers me.

The newly spoiled Monastery Swiftspear will be perfect for this deck! Unfortunately, she is rare... we shall see on the price.

jraynor- I approached this deck as a deck as a completely new deck instead of transforming the Rakdos Deck. Also, there really isn't a consistent payoff like there was in the Ravnica Standard (Spike Jester ). I could definitely splash black, but the inconsistencies in mana would not be worth it.

Satyr Hoplite may be decent in this deck, but only time will tell. The idea of adding power to the board in the form of 1/1's is more attractive than +1/+1 counters, unless Anger of the Gods sees intense play next rotation.

Monastery Swiftspear is only an uncommon. Its a good card that'll I'll test out.

Wow this deck is FAST! I play tested it against a mono blue flyer deck, and it beat it four times in a row! Foundry Street Denizen and War-Name Aspirant provided some big beat down, and Akroan Crusader spit out mad soldiers. Well done sir!

Here are some sideboard options:

Shatter or Flamespeaker's Will vs pesky artifacts

Scouring Sands or Circle of Flame vs mirror or weenie

Spite of Mogis vs Burn or Control

Hammer of Purphoros vs Anger of the Gods

Disregard Spite of Morgis...

cowboy_hippie- Artifact decks don't seem prevalent in this upcoming Standard. So far all the hype has been about Sylvan Caryatid and Courser of Kruphix , and this deck aims to beat that strategy.

Arorsthrar True man! Artifacts was a thing with M15, but most people are moving towards one of the wedges involving green ramp. This deck matches very well vs the ramp! It can avoid the big booty blockers with Hammerhand or fry them with the direct damage. The sideboard is looking good! I was testing with Harness by Force , then I saw they reprinted Act of Treason in Khans today! Strong plan vs some of the crazy stuff that can come out if your opponent's mana aligns perfectly. Play testing today against what ever standard deck gets featured, I've found consistent turn 5 wins... Right before the new big khan cards dropped. Awesome design!

What do you think of Valley Dasher for this deck?

Would Stoke the Flames help take care of Courser of Kruphix ?

Red is the best color!!!!!!

I noticed that you have Act of Treason , rather than Harness by Force , and wondered why?

Don't they do the same thing, except, if you're flooding out, you might get an extra creature out of the deal?

Otherwise, great deck!

what about including an "if you aren't on a budget" bit for these decks. Would Goblin Rabblemaster work here?

cowboy_hippie says... #15

Play testing today, I've found this deck is holding its own vs Drown in Sorrow . All the buffs for Monastery Swiftspear and Foundry Street Denizen keep them alive turn three and four. Also, if I get Akroan Crusader out early, his enchantments keep him alive as well. Versus various suicide black builds I've been winning at a 3-1 ratio today! Once you know someone is running mono-black, play as normal first game. Second and third, plan you creatures and buffs appropriately and drown in sorrow will only cost you one or two creatures, and you can stay ahead on the race! Even versus a Master of the Feast with lifelink from the whip, I out-raced the deck post a Drown in Sorrow... Very powerful build!

Gop- Including Goblin Rabblemaster (even in non-budget builds) would involve running more lands, and probably Stoke the Flames main boarded. Many things in the deck would change.

If you dont mind spending like 3 more dollars, id probably go Harness by Force over Act of Treason. Its just better all round.

cowboy_hippie says... #18

TofuFriedRice this deck will hardly ever get six lands out to take advantage of Harness by Force . Even if it does, I probably will be casting other stuff with that land or pumping a Dragon Mantle might as well save the cash to buy a beer on the way to FNM... just saying! :)

Love this budget build, going to be shifting to it and modding it for FNM over the weeks since the new release has foiled the RW deck i've been using.

Can't help but wandering, Drown in Sorrow appears to be the greatest weakness for this deck. I'm dumbfolded trying to think of a way around it.Perhaps Hall of Triumph and Coordinated Assault may have better use in this deck?correct me if i'm wrong, they are only suggestions.

Perhaps even Rise to the Challenge

betajosh711 Good point about Drown in Sorrow , it counters entire deck.

Any thoughts how to counter it?

September 22, 2014 2:41 p.m.

Arorsthrar says... #21

There's really no playing around Drown in Sorrow or Anger of the Gods . You go all in and they have it turn 3, or you'll generally win turn 4.

I think that a single copy of Hall of Triumph wont hur the budget
