Standard is extremely expensive right now with all the fetches and expensive Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
and Gideon, Ally of Zendikar. Even the red aggressive deck of the format are $300 right now. However, with the release of Goblin Bushwhacker I think this cheap red deck can hold it's own against a wide array of decks seeing play right now.
Deck Description:
Creatures:
-Monastery Swiftspear, Zurgo Bellstriker, Abbot of Keral Keep: These are the stock red creatures and the cards that make this deck so expensive. These guys hit hard and don't need any explanation.
-Lighting Berserker: This card sees play in most red aggressive decks, but never as a 4-of. I'm not sure 4 is correct, but the cheap dash cost means it works well with Reckless Bushwhacker. Other than that, it's simply a Fireball with Buyback, which is only bad if they have a lot of blockers.
-Reckless Bushwhacker: The card that gives this deck a chance. I'm not sure whether 3 or 4 is correct, but having multiples in your opener isn't great, which is why I'm choosing 4 right now. Surge is extremely easy to achieve in this deck, and late game Hordeling Outburst into Reckless Bushwhacker can steal games.
Spells
-4x Wild Slash: Stock cheap burn to take out important small creatures or finish the opponent off.
-4x Outnumber: Another odd selection. However, this is a cheap removal spell that works quite well with this deck. I am a "play-to-win" guy. This card is bad when you're behind, but when you are behind, it's unlikely any card that can fit in this deck will get you back into the game, so this allows you to clear any blockers with ease.
-4x Titan's Strength- Stock buff spell.
-4x Dragon Fodder and Hordeling Outburst- Annoying token generators that synergize well with Reckless Bushwhacker.
Sideboard
-Against other aggressive decks: Fiery Impulse, Arc Lightning. Cut Lightning Berserker as that is too easily blocked by 1/1 Goblins on your opponent sides. I also like cutting an Abbot of Keral Keep since it's ability isn't as relevant and it dies easily.
-Abzan Aggro: Cut Wild Slash as it doesn't kill enough. I also cut 2 Lighting Berserker as it drawing 2 in a long game isn't ideal, and once again it can be blocked by anything. Roast, Magmatic Chasm, and Goblin Heelcutter are important for pushing through damage.
-Jeskai Black: Cut 4x Outnumber for 4x Fiery Impulse. Fiery Impulse with Spell Mastery kills anything in Jeskai Black, but isn't a liability like Outnumber. I also like Outpost Siege in the matchup as the game can go quite long, and the extra fuel is helpful. Scab-Clan Berserker is also good in this matchup. I take out 1 Goblin Bushwhacker and 3 Lightning Berserker in this matchup.
-Ramp- Ramp strategies are typically good matchups. Kozilek's Return will be great against us unfortunately.Outnumber isn't great as we typically can't get it to deal enough damage to kill giant monsters.We cut all four of those to add 2x Goblin Heelcutter and 2x Scab-Clan Berserker as more durable threats.
