Testing! —March 30, 2015

I did a lot of testing with Shaheen Soorani's list today, and was extremely pleased with the results. I'll copy his list for now, then test with my own changes, because I hate not playing Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver.

I have been bouncing between UW and UB and really want Esper to work. I put this list together tonight and play tested against Abzan Aggro and GR Devotion decks. I feel the splash of white is just enough for Elspeth by Turn 6+. Of the 20 games we played, mana was an issue in only 2-3 of them and seemed to run smoothly. The win rate for me was around 60% combined (higher against Abzan). How has this deck been against the hyper aggro decks (mono Red, RW, etc.)?

@Intlfamily

I havn't played many based aggro decks with this, simply because there is only like 1 player at my LGS who plays a deck like that, and he is playing Jeskai tokens, which is a decent match provided I see Negate and Bile Blight early on. The mainboard Drown in Sorrow helps a lot too, though I actually think I'll go down to one copy of it, instead of 2.

I would suggest putting in Ojutai Exemplars and not Silumgar, the Drifting Death against the mirror. While it doesn't have hexproof, it is much cheaper and all you need is a non-creature spell to keep it safe. Also would be better against aggro. I could be wrong and it might just be a win-more card though.

I found having two Drown in Sorrow was very useful against the Abzan Aggro deck, so I would imagine it would be good against other aggro decks, even though it is Sorcery speed. At least it takes out more than on creature and not as specific on spot removal as Bile Blight. I like the Negate mainboarded for the burn spells and to often thwart a planeswalker in the midrange decks....Again, nice job. I will run it tonight at an FNM and, depending on how it goes, will run it tomorrow at a TCG Player 5K event. I'll let you know how it goes.

The description of you deck isn't updated to the new changes in your deck.

March 10, 2015 8:02 a.m.

TheHroth says... #6

I am aware of that. I won't edit the description until the full DTK spoiler is released because I'm still expecting there to be some changes made.

Its just laziness, really.

Alright, just making sure you know.

I appreciate you telling me! I'm glad people actually take time to read my description xD

Sometimes I think I'm writing all that for nothing lol.

You'll need some Banishing Lights to be able to deal with artifacts and enchantments.

Maybe im wrong but this format isnt multicolored, except for the Siege Rhino

March 10, 2015 4:01 p.m.

@DarkPaladin11Honestly, it depends on what DTK gives us. Most aggro decks use a variety of both mono and multicolored creatures, but against control they have completely mono-colored wincons.

March 10, 2015 4:07 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #13

This format is definitely multicolored DarkPaladin11. The mana given to use helps in this regard quite well.

March 10, 2015 4:12 p.m.

DarkPaladin11 says... #14

Except for Abzan decks, there really isnt much other decks that us multicolored, the only other thing i can think of is Mantis Rider and that can be killed by a Bile Blight

March 10, 2015 4:24 p.m.

I would probably edit out the part about Jace considering he's no longer in your deck ;)

I love this deck, but I'm not sure about Radiant Purge. Personally I will build a deck similar to this but in my meta theres not a lot of multicolred going on. I'd side these in my build and throw in some more Hero's Downfall or maybe Bile Blight

March 12, 2015 3:41 p.m.

Spencerbot15 says... #17

Radiant Purge and Ultimate Price should really be in the sideboard...

March 12, 2015 3:43 p.m.

DarkPaladin11 says... #18

I definetly think Ultimate Price is great in the main but not Radiant Purge

March 12, 2015 4:23 p.m.

DarkPaladin11 says... #19

replace a Radiant Purge for a Hero's Downfall that card should be a 4 of in all control decks

March 12, 2015 4:38 p.m.

Have you considered Murderous Cut? Its a one cmc removal spell

March 12, 2015 5:12 p.m.

asasinater13 says... #21

needs Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver back in it. I don't know for what. be it's so good.

@MAGESTIC_LLAMA

Lazy. Imma edit it all after I finalize things again after DTK's full spoiler.

@Spencerbot15DarkPaladin11

I'm torn between which kill spells to play...Hero's Downfall is definitely the best mainboard option, but I really like Ultimate Price and Radiant Purge too...and call me crazy but even Reprisal, though the latter purely as a SB option against Abzan aggro and Rakshasa Deathdealer. Last Breath was great last standard, because of Voice of Resurgence, and I think it could be still, again because of Rakshasa Deathdealer, but also because of Valorous Stance.

The problem is, Bile Blight is too good to not play, and I need to fit it back in. Too many removal options, dammit xD!!

Surge of Righteousness and Self-Inflicted Wound are good SB options (the latter being potential mainboard, depending on the amount of Abzan in your meta).

@MAGESTIC_LLAMA(again)

Murderous Cut is not a 1cmc kill spell. I want to keep my GY full of cards to delve away for Dig Through Time. While definitely a good card, I want and have better removal options.

@asasinater13

Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is definitely too good to not play.

I feel like another massive update is coming, lol.

TheHroth says... #24

Uuuuhhhhhh crap... Now I don't have room for Ojutai's Command and Silumgar's Command Dx

Too many spells I want to play.

DarkPaladin11 says... #25

I would take out the Negate for another Dissolve, its only 1 more mana. and it allows you to scry and counter creatures. And only two islands for a playset of both Flooded Strand and Polluted Delta seems risky. I feel like they will put you in situations where you have useless land. I also think you could drop both Jace's Ingenuity for Anticipate, this card does wonders for a deck like this, that has no free two drops and can get screwed on land quite easily. Also it adds to your delve.
