I notice you have a lot of lands and not a lot of high drops so i would cut down on those and you also have a lot of hate and not a lot of creatures I know you have your planeswalkers they can get you lots of creatures but now you need to worry about Deicide in the game. so cut down on lands and add some creatures i would think about taking Thassa, God of the Sea out because this is a 3 color deck and devotion is not gong to work very well and add Phalanx Leader to beef up your creatures from Elspeth, Sun's Champion to fight cards like Drown in Sorrow

Thassa, God of the Sea is very necessary here. The idea from running 3x Spirit of the Labyrinth and 3x Eidolon of Rhetoric is to force the opponent to topdeck, while I'm scrying all my draws.

True I was not aware of that because those cards were in your sideboard or i was just mistaken. but you are right.

May 6, 2014 12:41 p.m.

could you look at this deck for me?

Inspired by the casual!

May 6, 2014 12:42 p.m.

+1 btw.

May 6, 2014 12:42 p.m.

I think you need a better win then just pinking them to death with your Eidolons and omenspeakers

Elspeth, Sun's Champion accomplishes that nicely.

A) She makes more pingers.

B) She boardwipes (except for my pingers)

C) She makes pingers bigger and flying (while still immune to her boardwipe capability (unless I ult her twice, in which case I'm almost sure I'm winning...lol)).

May 6, 2014 1:52 p.m.

where did you learn the term ult i know this sounds kind of weird but was just wondering

May 6, 2014 2:02 p.m.

That is true but again Deicide will shut you down I would think about that but if you dont have a problem then great

May 6, 2014 2:11 p.m.

Spiteful Returned is an option it has a reasonable cost and adds a great amount of extra damage.

May 6, 2014 2:15 p.m.

just thought of something awesome use Polymorphous Rush with Spiteful Returned and Battlefield Thaumaturge so much damage!

@solringlotuspetal

The above combo is nice, but seeing as I'm going for control, I don't like the idea. It is too aggro, and would take too long to set up if I'm running Eidolon of Rhetoric anyway. But that has given me another cool deck idea, so I'll see what that turns into ;).

As for Deicide , the only real answer to it will be counterspells, or bouncing the target back to your hand on the stand.

Ult is just short for ultimate, in reference to a planeswalker's last ability (which is usually a game winner). Some aren't, like Ajani, Mentor of Heroes (unless you use it to set up 20 free turns for yourself with Sage of Hours + Sunbond ), and Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver isn't a game ender either. Honestly with both Ajani and Ashiok, their first two abilities are the only ones I'd ever use (unless I'm so far ahead and can afford to have some extra fun).

May 6, 2014 10:57 p.m.

True so what counter spells are you thinking?

Right now all I have is Dissolve . I may add Negate is it gets reprinted in M15.

May 7, 2014 3:54 p.m.

Negate is good I don't like it that it only does non-creature spells you cant really deal with big beastys.

I have Hero's Downfall and Reprisal for big creatures. I'd rather save a counterspell for something I can't just use a kill spell on.

May 7, 2014 9:31 p.m.

Forgot you had those in there lol

Drop Mana Confluence . This may sound strange, but when I playtested this deck it did to much damage to itself with the Thoughtseize and such. Your mana base is good enough not to run it.

@BoardFire I've been noticing the same thing. I won't drop it yet though in hopes that there is a good draw/gain life card similar to Rev printed next set. There probably won't be though so I'll just have to add in some form of lifegain, likely Whip of Erebos .

Swan Song ? Even if they get the 2/2 flyer it's not the end of the world, compared to what they might be getting. Annul and Nullify are two other cards you might want to consider. Yes they're fairly specific, but seeing as how this is meant for post-rotation, it'll stop a lot.

I'm sad for RTR block rotating out too sniff It was a great block. How about Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver ? He (she? it?) fits well into a control strategy methinks.

Like the deck by the way.

I already have Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver in the side, but I think I'll swap him (pretty sure he is a guy) to the main. I'm hoping he'll see a lot more play once Rav is gone, he's is grossly undervalued I think.

Last Breath is a very versatile card that kills many things, like Mutavault , Nightveil Specter and Courser of Kruphix , as well as Voice of Resurgence (without a activation!) to name a few. I would consider taking out 2x Reprisal for 2x last breath mainboard, or sideboard if you have a larger creature meta. I have been playing a bant control deck, Bant Superduperfriends!!! (feedback appriecated), and Last Breath is just so good. I hope this helps and +1!!!

I won't be playing this deck (if I even do at all) until after rotation, so we'll have to see how the new meta will end up being with Khans of Tarkir.

I'm also working on this build:

I'll decide which one to use once rotation actually happens, and I'm constantly changing them both, but right now I feel I like this American build more.

I feel like Last Breath was made just for Voice of Resurgence . It is just perfect for it.

For now I'll add it to the side in the place of Bile Blight , because running 2 Bile Blight and 2 Drown in Sorrow side seems like a bit much.

Thanks for the suggestion!!

Divination was reprinted in born of the gods, so it will still be legal as a source of card draw.
