I guess 25 lands should be enough.

I've been runnning 27 for the longest time, so I'll stick to that for now. Dropped down from 28, and may drop down again to 26, but I will definitely not go any lower than that.

I think that you might need Anticipate so as to fix your early draws. I would also prefer to play 3xDig Through Time and 1xDragonlord's Prerogative

I do think Anticipate will be needed here. With removal options becoming more varied, better selection will definitely become a must have. That being said, Dig Through Time is definitely not the best place to make cuts.

I actually agree with cutting 1 Dig Through Time. I noticed that I kept drawing multiples and didn't have another fuel in my graveyard to cast it. Perilous Vault is going out of standard. I think you should cut 1 Dig Through Time and Perilous Vault for 2 Anticipate

TheHroth says... #6

Perilous Vault isn't rotating out until the fall. For the moment, it is definitely staying in. It is too good to not play, especially since it is my only answer to a monstrous Fleecemane Lion.

I really want to fit a couple copies of Anticipate into the deck...I just really can't decide where.

You can move 1 or 2 Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver at sb, in order to make room for a couple of Anticipates

March 17, 2015 9:47 a.m.

TheHroth says... #8

As long as I don't have less than 3 Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver in the 75...

I guess I can afford to have a worse match game 1 against the mirror in favor of Anticipate.

Very solid control! I like the interaction with the DTK cards!

March 17, 2015 10:24 a.m.

How do you get it to be formatted as "Wincons", "Draw", "Removal", "Countermagic", etc?

March 17, 2015 10:34 a.m.

rorofat says... #11

I know you mentioned it briefly previously, but the ub command seems really good in here... Any reason why you aren't playing it?

Femme_Fatale says... #12

You don't want Ojutai's Command if you aren't going to utilize its reanimation effect.

@Dragonman39

Thanks!

@rochdalekilla9

Here.

@rorofat

I just can't decide what spells I want to play, and which I don't. I want to play them all, but only have 60 cards. It may come back in, and likely will. I like it. A more finalized list will evolve only once the new meta becomes clear though, so I'm expecting a ton of changes to be made still.

@Femme_Fatale

I'm not quite sure I agree. Counter-draw is powerful in any format, and even if the counter is restricted to creatures, it's worth having. The second mode is fairly useful too, as life right now is a hard resource to keep around. Gain lands are all I have access to, so this would make some matchups much easier. Casting it for modes 2&3 is particularly satisfying against Siege Rhino.

What about Prognostic Sphinx for another win-con?

March 18, 2015 1:56 p.m.

TheHroth says... #15

I don't need another wincon here, and if I felt like I did, Prognostic Sphinx would not be my first choice. It is just not good enough I think.

Only 2 copies of bile blight as your 2 drop removal seems rough. Especially since you're running blight, downfall and end hostilities, all while blue is more than half your deck. This is a very greedy mana base.

Because of how necessary it's going to be to draw the proper lands early, and because of how little else you have to cast on turn 2, i think you need more copies of anticipate, or more cheap removal. Ultimate Price is back and can really help with that.

Considering how little you have to interact with the board, i think 2 dragonlord's prerogative is a bit presumptuous. Drop to 1 if any. I think it makes more sense sideboard against control decks.

I'm working on a similar build that's splashing white if you want to take a look. The New Esper Control

TheHroth says... #17

Using Dragonlord's Prerogative only in the mirror match is pointless. Most of the time, it will be an Opportunity for me. Having an uncounterable draw spell only matters in the mirror match, yes, but having draw spells matters in every match.

My removal spells, I just can't decide which ones to play, or how many. I can't really decide that either until the meta settles after DTK release, so until then I'll be switching things up a lot based on the current meta. I want to fit an Utter End in here, along with Hero's Downfall, Bile Blight, AND Ultimate Price, so space is really tight.

March 19, 2015 8:51 a.m.

TheGreatLiar says... #18

To play the dragonlord's prerogative you have to reach turn 6. Without more removal for early creatures i don't see that happening often enough against aggro decks to demand 2 of them. Draw is good against any deck, sure. But that particular draw spell is a huge risk in this deck.

March 19, 2015 10:31 a.m.

TheHroth says... #19

It is hardly any riskier than Jace's Ingenuity or Dig Through Time.

Yes, Dig has delve, but most of the time (as in, unless I'm digging to find a response to something), I'm using mostly mana to play it.

Draw spells are simply necessary in control decks, because I need to ensure I always have an answer to something.

Hjaltrohir says... #20

Have you considered Dragonlord Ojutai in the place of Silumgar, the Drifting Death maybe? He seems fairly good giving you a free Anticipate every time it connects as well as being hard to remove.

March 21, 2015 8:43 a.m.

TheHroth says... #21

I was just playtesting with Dragonlord Ojutai yesterday, actually! I really like the way he plays, though my only complaint is that his hexproof isn't permanent.

March 21, 2015 9 a.m.

Hjaltrohir says... #22

I know, that is the only reason he isn't going in my modern control deck. although it is a little tacky, would Refocus interact well with him?

Response to removal; untap, draw, removal fizzles?

March 21, 2015 9:03 a.m.

TheHroth says... #23

It would certainly work, but Refocus is definitely not the kind of card I want to be running in a control deck.
