Neither of them are in here cuz I used to run Perilous Vault...but yeah they're probably better!

What do people think of this latest version?

Thinking of taking this deck along a more Superfriends Control route, because I missed playing Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver too much.

Having to pick 2 cards from Dig Through Time always made me sad, so I'm going to be trying playsets of both Treasure Cruise and Jace's Ingenuity instead.

Reality Shift isnt as good as you think. Getting rid of a large threat for two mana is nice, but thats a 2/2 you have to deal with also that you will probably end up using a removal spell on anyway.

And take this next thing i say from a control player, Dig Through Time is superior to both Treasure Cruise and Jace's Ingenuity. Choosing two cards out of seven is what control wants to be doing. It'd gladly make the tradeoff of losing one card to pick two cards that they like.

But tell me how the changes end up working out :D

@TheGamer

I know Dig Through Time is far superior...but even if it's just for a little bit imma experience the pleasure of simply drawing cards and being happy. xD

I miss my Sphinx Rev and AEtherling deck. Ahhh Ravnica...

Crux of Fate, End Hostilities AND Perilous Vault isn't too many boardwipes...is it? xD

You should think about adding Banishing Light

TheHroth says... #9

Banishing Light has been in and out of this deck more times than I've been in and out of your mom.

...That was a horrible joke...

hang head in shame

Anyway, I took it out again this last time because I added Perilous Vault again, as well as Ugin, the Spirit Dragon.

Both of them would cause me to exile my own Banishing Lights, and that's really not what I want to be doing with my boardwipes. The exact opposite in fact.

Not to mention, there is so much hate on enchantments in Standard right now because Whip of Erebos decks are just so good, and need to be answered to consistently and easily.

And meta where an argument can be made to mainboard Erase is not a meta I want to be playing Banishing Light in.

February 6, 2015 12:15 a.m.

You actually made a good point there would Utter End be good here?

February 6, 2015 12:34 a.m.

I hope you don't take offense at this, but how does this deck win? I've been playtesting it, and I've only ever won off of a 7/7 Ashiok token, which seems like kind of a weak win con to me. Don't get me wrong, the deck can stall until then like nobody's business, and Elspeth and Ugin can do some damage, but I just feel as if the deck isn't very proactive, only reactive.

TheHroth says... #12

@azorius_isbest

Perhaps. I'll test that and see how it works.

@KaladinStormblessed

The deck is designed to do exactly what you stated: be reactive rather than proactive, and stall like nobody's business. Such is the nature of a control deck.

Having a 7/7 Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver token confuses me. Ashiok does not create token creatures, he allows you to play creatures which he has exiled with his +2.

Elspeth, Sun's Champion, Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, and Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver provide me more than enough ways to win, as I don't play them until I'm sure that I am in control of the game, and decide that it is time to win.

it's good to note this is a control deck, and should be reactive rather than proactive.

also I love that this is a deck using ashiok, there aren't enough decks making use of him, he's really good.

@asasinater13

I love Ashiok so much.

February 7, 2015 11:23 p.m.

TheHroth, sorry, that's what I meant. I snagged a Hydra Broodmaster.

@KaladinStormblessed

Ahh ok!

The best thing I ever did with Ashiok was against a G/R monster deck.

Their opening hand contained 2 land and Sylvan Caryatid, and beaters. Pretty good, except I hit Ashiok on T3, and he never drew another land. Eventually I nabbed 2 Sylvan Caryatid and a Polukranos, World Eater. With the mana that Caryatid could produce, I managed to monstrous Poly-K for 13 and wipe away the creatures my opponent had managed to play.

That was a good game. I had cast Sphinx's Revelation for 20 something the turn before.

February 8, 2015 2:01 p.m.

That sounds pretty awesome. Ashiok is a great planeswalker.

February 8, 2015 5:44 p.m.

Have you used this in a tournament yet? If so, could you please provide your overall success? I am running a pure U/B control deck and was contemplating putting in some white. I love my deck right now but feel it could have more. Thanks and +1!

February 11, 2015 3:01 p.m.

Also, Murderous Cut could be a good card in here!

February 11, 2015 3:02 p.m.

I like this build quite a bit better than most I've seen. I want to run esper, just don't like the way my build was playing. I never drew Jace's Ingenuity when I needed it and Divination really hurts the tempo of the deck.

How is Jace, the Living Guildpact working out for you? I'm not sure if I like him personally yet or not. If his +1 was something like a Sleight of Hand, I would like him better. His ult is insane though. Thinking of running him here Ruthless Control of the Black Fang or here Kolaghan, Agent of the Dark Side, just not sure what to take out yet, as they are already starving for space.

@rochdalekilla9

Of the latest version, I have no results to show because I missed FNM last week, but previous versions have shown to perform well irl as well as on Cockatrice.

Murderous Cut is good, but not worth running over any other removal spell I already have here. Bile Blight and Hero's Downfall are just better, and I dont want to cut any other spells to fit it in.

Thanks for the +1!

@Chainer_the_Dementia_Master

Divination really screws up T3 plays. You want to be able to play Hero's Downfall almost every game on T3, and ideally either Hero's Downfall or Dissolve. A sorcery speed draw spell is definitely not high on my list of T3 plays.

If there were an efficient 4cmc sweeper things would be much different. I'd love T3 Divination into T4 Wrath of God.

Jace, the Living Guildpact has proven to be quite an awesome card whenever I draw him. Whether as a T4 tempo kill with his -3, or filtering your draws every turn, he is useful for all his abilities at almost any point in the game.

Filling up the graveyard a little bit every turn with his +1 also really helps cast Dig Through Time much more easily, and that is never a bad thing.

February 12, 2015 12:15 a.m.

TheHroth that's how I feel about Divination right now. With the lack of a turn 4 sweeper, it gets significantly worse. I just don't like Jace's Ingenuity any better because I usually draw it when I need that removal spell instead and just end up dead the next turn. Esper just doesn't seem to be working too well for me since Khans came out, but I'm giving it one more try on friday. I've been splashing the other colors instead of white for things like Sultai Charm and Steam Augury which seem to be working better, just wish there were something like Jace's Ingenuity but a little cheaper with slightly less of an effect. Been thinking about Weave Fate, but don't think it's worth 4 mana.

I want to run Jace, the Living Guildpact, just don't know what to cut for him. My esper build(Relinquish all your soul to me) is pretty control heavy with fewer win cons, so it's hard to take things out without just rebuilding the deck at the moment. More or less a messy work in progress that I can't seem to strike a balance with.

What do you think about replacing Jace, the Living Guildpact with Sorin, Solemn Visitor? Sorin's +1 is great, especially with Elspeth, Sun's Champion tokens.

February 17, 2015 midnight

TheHroth says... #24

I used to play Sorin, Solemn Visitor but he's just not good enough compared to what I could be and am playing instead of him.

What do you do if someone drops a Jeskai Ascendancy or Whip of Erebos and you can't counter it?
