kylothian, please remove any and all coding from your decks please. Do not try and use css coding on anything but your profile.

Yeah sure though can you answer me why I need to before i do. it appears to be working and stable. I am a cs major so fire away. I'm just curious. I haven't done anything in html so thats why I'm messing around with this for fun. If you blow me off and don't give me a reasonable answer I probably won't.

The main issue is that most people cannot run them without their pc's or phones chugging. Google's speed optimization checker may indicate that your page is only 5% or so slower than the normal page, but in reality, the plethora of users who have really low end pc's and phones experience a good 30%+ additional loading times.

I'm currently doing testing to see what is exactly affecting the loading times, and my current conclusion is that it has to be the images. However I can't be too sure, and I'd rather users not alter their deck pages until I've figured this out.

There are a few additional reasons. One has to do with site aesthetics. Giving users the ability to manipulate various aspects of the site obstructs the natural consistency that you see throughout this site. I give it the equivalent of finding a completely irrelevant result from a google images search. Like getting porn images when typing FTV: Angels.

Users themselves don't like these obstructions, and many have voiced their concerns over and over again. Other deck pages who have done this have shown that users get irritated when they see something like this, claiming that the site is becoming "too much like myspace". Even further, there are many users who wish that the customization usernames was restricted to purely font colour, and even further, to have everyone as being a blue username.

That's just getting into nitpicky stuff ("Waah, I don't like things so NO ONE SHOULD HAVE THEM!!") but I agree with your initial point, Femme_Fatale. As someone who just got a laptop a few weeks ago, these CSS_coded deck pages murdered my phone when I was still using it.

I ran my page through a couple of analytics sites and found that loading the CSS takes about a quarter of a second, and it happens as the page is loading other things... So it's hard to tell the actual impact of just having CSS styling. However, images do seem to be a legitimate concern, taking anywhere from five to fifteen seconds to load without any cache. An average of seven seconds added to the load time is site breaking...

I'm waiting on an official reply from Epochalyptik to see what's allowed, and pending his approval, I will find ways to make images load faster. One obvious fix is more compressed images. Less obvious is that most of the hosts we're using are absolutely terrible image hosts.

Compressing is the number one method, and there are tonnes of locations to compress your images. Google will tell you in general, just how much space you can save by compressing your images. It can't even tell now that there's much of a speed difference on my own profile because I've heavily compressed all the images. Other sites may say things differently, but I rely solely on google.

Ok, well the loading time issue I'll take it down for until I figure out how to fix that. The whole my space thing though its really just opinion . Thank you for the serious reply however.

The "myspace" thing is just something people use to encourage others to take it down. There's much more people who do not want profile backgrounds and all that than there are people who do. Keep in mind that a majority of the people who don't like it, won't ever voice their opinion, and currently, there are more negative voices than positive ones so you have to keep that in mind.
