Jus playing around with him, as he has sparked the most interest in me out of all the recent legends. And the deck building itch must be scratched.

Whats the first thing we do when looking to build a new deck around a commander? Examine the comander obviously(unless your one of those weirdos who chooses them for colors, then fills the deck with goodstuffs).

Converted Cost: He is freaking expensive at 7 mana. Prohibitively so in fact. This means that if I want to take advantage of his abilities at all in a game I need to get to 7 mana fast, super fast really, otherwise Im dead or dying by the time I would be able to get any advantage out of him. So I basically am required to run a good amount of ramp in the deck.

Creature Type: Elemental is a fairly untouched tribe, they have a little support but not a whole lot. Since there is not a ton of Elemental Tribal support cards out there, building Omnath as a tribal deck seems like its asking a bit much, so although we might add a few Elementals to take advantage of his death trigger, the fact they are elementals is more icing on the cake than a buildable theme.

Power/Toughness: A 5/5 isnt bad, not great, but he does dodge a lot of burn, can block mid sized guys withought much of an issue, and can be an alright beater if needed. However he is smaller than most of the bigger commanders out there, and much smaller than most of the win con creatures in the format, and since he is 7 cost, he will probably be slightly out dated in size by the time he hits the field. All of these things should be fairly moot points most of the time however as Omnath should not be needed to attack or block due to his same sized tokens he creates.

Elemental Death Trigger: Its possible to build around without too much effort, and it has a consistant source of Elementals coming into play due to Omnaths other ability. Personally though, I like to keep my 5/5 creatures in play if I can, since a 5/5 in play is better than 3 damage once generally. What it is great for though is bringing the boardwipe hate. Its a deterrent from opponents Wrath of Goding, since they are probably assuming you are going to throw 3x(X) damage at them for it. The drawback to this ability is if Omnath is removed first via targeted removal, then youre SOL.

5/5 Elemental Landfall: This is the real reason for playing Omnath right here. Play a land, get a free 5/5. All Omnath wants to do in life if get lands into play, thats all he needs to do in order to win And that ladies and gentlemen, is why we want to run as much land ramp as possible. Like 33 or so. Oh, and we need the lands to be able to pull with the ramp, and enough lands to make sure we can cast that ramp reliably. 40 seems legit.

The actual lands to be in the deck are not in yet, the 20/20 is just filler atm.
