This is all about life gain and using the Chalice as a win condition. I like Trading Post and Wurmcoil Engine for this too, because the life gain creatures just aren't enough to pull the weight necessary to win if a Chalice isn't brought to the party. I've been considering turning this into a battle deck as it is pretty tough to narrow things down to 60. I tried fitting Griselbrand into the deck, but he's just too costly for 60 cards in this mix.

Rant I'm pretty disappointed that Angel's Mercy is even being printed now with Whitesun's Passage being a card. Soon it's going to rotate out and most of the things that make this deck possible will be irrelevant in three months. Angel's Mercy is just too costly. You only gain 1.75 life per mana with it, whereas Whitesun's Passage gains you 2.5 life per mana. This is a big deal when it comes to card advantage and should never be played in standard. One could argue the same about this deck in general, but I'm hoping to enjoy myself in at least one FNM with it. End Rant
