I've been a heavy aggro player since I started playing Magic, so this should be a good foray into control builds. The Miracle/Hallelujah decks seem like a lot of fun, but a little inconsistent, so this is like an awkward compromise between Hallelujah and more traditional control.
Heavy Azorius control with a splash of red for Bonfire of the Damned and Gisela, Blade of Goldnight as a finisher.
I'd like to acquire more Bonfires (just like everyone else), but since I only actually have one, I'd like to attempt to make it work as a fun singleton.
After a little playtesting, I worry that the deck will be royally dickpunched by quick aggro. I personally feel like
Feeling of Dread
is absolutely fantastic for stalling, and Azorius Charm as well as Cyclonic Rift could really help me survive long enough to wipe the board. I really like the idea of using Devastation Tide to clear the board and return Detention Sphere, Oblivion Ring, or Angel of Serenity for additional headaches.
I am a little worried that I'm going overboard on board wipes, though. I feel like eight or ten may be overkill. Also, I worry that Temporal Mastery may be a weak link in this deck. I suppose at worst it's an extra draw, and at best it's an extra draw and combat step with some fat-ass fliers.
I REALLY hesitate to rely on Planeswalkers with Dreadbore and Pithing Needle in standard, so I feel like any more than two of Tamiyo, the Moon Sage won't be worth running. Depending on what I pull, I wouldn't mind attempting to make Jace, Architect of Thought work as well. The idea of dropping an Omniscience in standard warms the deepest cockles (it's a real word, get your mind out the gutter) of my heart.
The primary win conditions are dropping a shitton of big-ass tokens with Entreat the Angels, or beating face with Isperia, Supreme Judge, Angel of Serenity, Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, or
Archon of the Triumvirate
. I feel like the Archon could easily be replaced with more copies of Gisela, though.
As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions! Don't hesitate to tell me what you think.
