Infect is a deck long rooted in Pauper's history, known as a dominating force up until the point Invigorate became banned in the format. Since then, Pauper Infect has floundered within the metagame, showing up here and there but always seems to be outclassed by other aggressive decks. However, with the recent printing of Larger Than Life and Peregrine Drake recently seeing an emergency ban, I believe now is a time for Infect to make a strong return. Before getting into card breakdowns, allow me to answer some questions you may have.

1) Why does this Infect list run U/G? While Mono Green Infect tends to have a smoother curve, with the banning of Invigorate the Mono Green version of Infect has lost the quickness and effectiveness it once had. Because it can no longer race faster than any of the aggressive decks in the format, it means Infect either has to be resilient or run a greedier game plan to keep up. By running blue we have access to Slip Through Space and Blighted Agent to slip past enemy blockers, as well as a stronger sideboard plan with cards like Dispel and Aura Flux. The deck also has access to Simic Growth Chamber as a dual land, allowing us to bounce lands to guarantee value off of cards like Groundswell.

2) How fast does the deck kill? Well, without interaction Pauper Infect can kill as soon as Turn 2 with a god hand of Turn 1 Glistener Elf into Turn 2 double Groundswell with a Mutagenic Growth. The more accurate answer to this question is likely around Turn 3-6, especially since most of our creatures come down on Turn 2 and since most Pauper decks run interaction we likely need to spend some time to be able to protect our threats as well.

3) Why run Infect over any other Aggro deck? This question varies off of your personal playstyle, as Infect is a deck that can punish idle opponents more than Stompy or Affinity can at the cost of resiliency. This Infect list can win by Turn 4 on average with no interaction by the opponent, and an opponent's Gainlands will do nothing for them. And again, sideboard options in Infect are often better than Stompy's.

Larger Than Life: Larger Than Life is a strictly better version of Predator's Strike, giving you an extra point of Infect damage and Evasion with Trample. It's the love child of Predator's Strike and Phytoburst, and thus fits perfectly within the deck

Slip Through Space: At first glance Slip Through Space looks like a strictly worse Distortion Strike, but after testing I found that most of the time an opponent will be more likely to prioritize removal on our board if they know we can attack for unblockable damage again with the Rebound trigger. Slip Through Space also makes our creatures unblockable while also digging through our deck, and if we draw another pump spell or Infect creature the +1/+0 bonus Distortion Strike gives us may not even matter.

Brainstorm: This is a recent addition, as I wasn't impressed with Gitaxian Probe as a cantrip in the deck. Gitaxian Probe is often never cast for free, as we usually have unused Blue mana to spend and the free information is usually not even necessary. Pauper is such a removal heavy that removal can almost be assumed, and there's not much Instant speed removal that can circumvent a pump spell or be dealt with a Vines or Apostle's Blessing. You'll also most likely have multiple Infect creatures in play at one time, which effectively makes targeted removal worse. Since Gitaxian Probe often isn't cast for 2 life, and the information and card draw is minimal at best I found Brainstorm to be the better option. While there are no shuffle effects, Brainstorm is used as an Instant speed method of finding what we need when we need it. Whether we need another creature after our opponent's removal has been used, a protection spell to keep creatures safe, the Mutagenic Growth we need for lethal, or even the land to curve out or activate Groundswell, Brainstorm gives the deck much needed versatility.

Overall I'd say Infect does best in a metagame dominated by Midrange, as it can often beat decks like Temur Tron, Kuldotha Boros, and other slower strategies before they get their value engines going. This deck has a tough time against removal heavy decks like Mono Black Control and U/B Teachings, but otherwise can compete with other decks in the format with a decent chance to win. As for the sideboard I have included Gut Shot for Delver and Elves decks, Fog for any decks who can race us, Dispel against counterspell heavy decks, Nature's Claim against Artifact shenanigans, Khalni Garden in the case we are up against edicts, and Aura Flux for the occasional Bogles, Curses, or cards stasis enchantments like Journey to Nowhere or Oubliette we tend to see. With the recent printing of Foil this deck does get significantly worse due to the fact that they can effectively stop our kill turn at all points in the game without losing mana advantage or tempo, so keep that in mind when playing the deck in the current metagame.
