Wasn't certain I would enjoy Karametra, so I wagered $20 on Budget MTG Decks version, and--since I did enjoy this deck--upgraded it from there. Please visit: BudgetMTGdecks's excellent $25ish deck or watch the video on youtube. Watch and donate, they are a great resource.

I have always been curious about this commander (confined to a binder for over 5 years), but I've never enjoy this color pairing specifically or the green-mage aesthetic generally. Sadly, we've lost the green player in our meta and I've attempted to fill the void with this deck: for $20 (Karameta alone represents the other $6), I saw no reason not to give this budget deck a go. If I enjoy the deck (edit: I do!), I'll slowly upgrade it and track it here (edit: I did! by category below!), if not (edit: not!) I'll leave it as is and use it to help teach new players (edit: even upgraded it still works for beginners quite well).

This deck, as built would fit in the 'focused' category in the EDH taxonomy. If you want to bump it up to 'optimized, cut all the fun cards for tutors and treat as a straight combo deck. Tutor for Aluren and a card like Stonecloaker and draw all your lands, create infinite mana and/or infinite creatures. Or grow a soul.

Best paired with Neil Young's 1992 'Harvest Moon' album (orginal 'harvest' also works) on repeat for the course of the game.

Updates Add

Haven't updated in 3 years? Well, I've been updating the deck to stay current, but I've neglected to actually write an update, so here's a small one to remind everyone that this deck is very much active and cared for through each new release (more or less)

In Flawless Maneuver and werefox body guard, out Brutalizer Exarch and Fairgrounds Warden Why? FM was down to under $5, so i decided to take the shot, and the Werefox is a strict upgrade over it's non-flash counterparts a la the good warden. Why the removed cards? I don't think I've ever been thrilled to see the brutalizer in my hand (mostly I think he's flown under the radar and survived the cut via indifference rather than utility). Why drop the Warden when it is actually slightly better than, say, Fiend Hunter? Because Fiend Hunter is a way better name and i prefer the art. Aesthetics count. Overall CMC change: -3
