Nice going i can't think of anything right now to improve your deck, I rated it 1 up

the only suggestion I can think of is to go up to 4 preordane to increase your chance of dropping it turn 1 because it's such an advantage. overall better than my tezzy deck +1

Inkmoth Nexus might be a nice addition as you can make it a 5/5 with Tezzeret. It can work as a fail safe if your original plan falls through

Eewwww.... +1 Gratz on the win and picking up the tezzys. Did you get the swords you were wanting?

Looks good.

@BrownDog5117: I was under the impression that the Inkmoth Nexus works a little wonky than how people originally were thinking due to a recent Q&A I saw on this site. I will research more and locate the thread. The ruling had to do with overriding, which means that when it is a 5/5 artifact that is all it is, when you activate the ability it becomes a 1/1 flying infect creature that overrides the 5/5 artifact status until the end of turn. It is still a good card surely. I will need a clarification on it though. I may have misread the Q&A as well.

@Balthasar: I did not get the swords. Another guy ended up getting 2 swords of Feast and Famine from my draft though! Wicked draft. I was just glad to get 2 from the draft and then I trade 2 Koth of the Hammer for a 3rd after the draft. I will have to wait on the swords. I am glad I ended up with the Tezz's over the swords, truth be told. I would never buy these cards individually, and the swords are pricey, but still withing individual buying range.

Thanks for the feedback. I really wanted to keep the U/B control archetype alive with a reasonable build that featured Tezz but allowed for beat downs in many ways. I can envision many games where I can simply +1 Tezz one turn, put the artifact out, and -1 Tezz the next turn for instant 5/5. Rinse and repeat until I can beat. I don't even really imagine a scenario where I would use his ultimate unless I was in a pinch.

Mm. First thing I saw was the 1x Duress and 3x Preordain . I think that you should go either 2x each or 4x one of them, because I don't think that one Duress would be too useful in comparison to that first turn Preordain that I always enjoy. 4x Duress is decent though, great disruption.

I have a friend that actively plays a Tezzifact deck, he has a huge amount of two-cost cantrip artifacts, Pentad Prism and Ichor Wellspring . They're great for getting cards and give you targets for Tezz's -1, but at the same time they do take out the potential for the disruption you have, so that's your call.

About the Inkmoth Nexus ... Since you have to make it an artifact before you can do anything at all with it, and then you turn it into a 5/5, I think that it would work. I don't know if making it a 5/5 gets rid of the infect or not, but it would take away the land aspect of Inkmoth Nexus because of the fact that it straight up says "Target artifact becomes a 5/5 artifact creature." That would take away the land aspect, in my opinion, but maybe still give it the ability to tap for mana?

And lastly, I have a Sword of Feast and Famine , but nothing to do with it! I don't really see it as a really amazing card, but that could be because I've never played it. It doesn't really help any of my decks... -shrug-

Hope all of this helps!

I run the 1 duress because sometimes drawing a late gave IoK isn't great but a Duress is...and duress is good if I get it early too. I could try dropping the 1 duress for another preordain.

I'm more inclined to go that direction for the draw advantage to get through land stall problems, should they occur.

Thanks.

To clarify: the swords would surely not fit in this deck. I was hoping to get some for my U/B infect deck I have been working on.

I played a deck similar to this with my infect deck and it was a pretty brutal defeat. This guy included Plague Myr s for ramp, and just to be a punk he turned them into 5/5 infects. Great for blocking or a secondary win/con.

insertcleverid says... #9

oh yeah +1 btw

March 24, 2011 2:45 p.m.

@insertcleverid -that is good food for thought...infect is good for blocking.

I'll keep that in my back pocket and let it tumble around a bit.

I love me some Tezzy decks. +1. Here's the downlow on Inkmoth Nexus rules:

once you've activated the nexus' ability, it is a 1/1 artifact creature with flying and infect. If you then target it with Tezz's -1, it becomes a 5/5 flying artifact creature with infect. At the end of that turn, the flying and infect 'wear off,' and it is a 5/5 artifact creature that is also a land.It remains that way indefinitely, unless you activate the land's ability again.

Next time you activate the Nexus' ability, it becomes a 1/1 flyer with infect again; you can then target it again with Tezz to make it 5/5 infect flyer. If you don't, it will be a 1/1 artifact creature that is also a land, indefinitely.

March 24, 2011 4:13 p.m.

See. I knew it was more comicated!

Thanks for clarifying landot.

landot says... #13

forgive me, though, I made a mistake. that last paragraph in my previous response is incorrect. Replace the last word 'indefinitely' with 'until end of turn, at which point it reverts to a 5/5 artifact creature land'.

March 24, 2011 7:20 p.m.

It's okay. I am aparently creating new words altogether. I understood what the explanation you gave meant, and it coincided with that recent Q&A I saw.

I think that the Inkmoth is good, but I think I will opt to not use it, as it is currently working just fine in my U/B infect deck.

I like the Plague Myr for ramp, although I could certainly use a different myr...silver or lead as well. Though the arguement that a 5/5 infect blocker does resonate with me.

No Stoic Rebuttal in the mainboard? Metalcraft may not be guaranteed, but it certainly isn't impossible, and there are definitely some things that are worth hard countering in every deck that you are likely to play against.

Also, I would suggest diversifying your removal. Maybe some Smother s and/or Go for the Throat s?

zook99 says... #16

Should really add 2-3 more jace's I know it is expensive but one really just does not make a big enough difference.

March 25, 2011 2:23 p.m.

Yeah. I think not. I play with what I own. I would sooner cut JTMS than add more.

Which may eventually happen as I play this deck more.

Seriously?

As far as Stoic Rebuttal ...I have it sideboarded because I really haven't played the deck enough to have a good feel for how often I would be able to cast stoic consistently for UU.

Mana Leak has been successful thus far in the limited time I have played it since making it.

I may eventually switch over.

I could eventually tweak the SB to add a couple GFtTs but I would have to remove board sweeps, so it seems a toss up. I'm not a fan of smother. If I want 3cmc or less I will stick with Consume the Meek , i think.

Seriously? More JTMS? What do you think I am? King Midas? hahah

I would switch out steels for coils ... Dragon is but if taken out he's gone coil leaves them in a pickle unless they exile but that would count for both ... Or he has 3 removals in hand...

March 25, 2011 7:14 p.m.

TehPlutoKiss says... #19

While Wurmcoil Engine is a great card, Steel Hellkite is great removal if you have the mana for it's second ability as well as being a good beater. I like them in this deck. -shrug-

March 26, 2011 12:54 p.m.

Yeah. That is exactly right. I played this against a goblin deck that had battle cry and I put my dragon out, they swung and the next turn I swung withy dragon and paid 1, which destroy 2 goblin guides and 2 signal pests. It was great, and it turned the tide back to my favor all at once.

I have the wurmcoil in the maybeboard because eventually the titans won't be standard. I thought I would put in that card in their place.

weterr123 says... #21

I have an excellent addition you should make to this already nice deck: Thopter Assembly

Personally, rare-wise, I would take out the titans, and replace them with 2 of the afforementioned card. The only compromise to it's ability would be the Ornithopter s you have in. +1 from me

March 26, 2011 10:08 p.m.

Good food for thought. They do conflict a bit with the ornies, but they could still have a place.

The titans have ETB effects that are hard to give up right now, but I will certainly keep that idea on the maybeboard with the wurmcoils because I will eventually need to replace those 2 creatures in the 6cmc slots.

March 26, 2011 10:22 p.m.

weterr123 says... #23

Dude, I have just thought of a few more things:

Regarding the ornies, perhaps Reality Strobe would be cool? Return the orni if there's only the one out and a thopter assembly, then you get your 5 1/1's and play the orni in your turn?

And here's one that would be an awesome combo addition for your deck I think:

Thopter Assembly + Time Sieve !!!

Maybe a Prototype Portal or 2, and your opponents may just grow to hate you!!

Ultimate control!!!

March 26, 2011 11:32 p.m.

The deck:thopter-assembly and Time Sieve combo is slick to be sure. Though as with Reality Strobe I am strictly keeping this deck standard for the time being.

Though prototype portal is certainly not a terrible idea.

Something to kick around at least.

Well, with your current deck, do you really think Semblance Anvil will be all that useful? You have 9 artifacts, 8 creatures, and 7 instants and sorceries each. I don't think the Anvil will be great unless you have more artifacts or creatures in there. Well, you do actually have 15 artifacts if you count the creatures, but 4 of them are already 0-drops. So... I dunno.
