The Cult of the Flying Squid (Azorius Synergy)

Standard WU (Azorius)

Creature (2)

When I first saw Chasm Skulker, I knew I wanted to make a deck out of it. My first attempt, pre-Khans block, seemed too slow and I set the skulkers aside while I crafted other decks instead. With the release of Fate Reforged, I have drafted several times and amassed a decent number of the commons (and others) from the set. Cards like Refocus and Pressure Point stuck out to me, mostly for their cheap cost, combat trick, and self-cycling ability. Well, I once more saw an opportunity to use the skulkers in a deck, with a quicker core this time using the cards I have on hand. The product is what you see here. It has tremendous synergy with heroic and prowess triggers, skulker triggers, and finally a counter club so my man Abzan Falconer can lift my creatures off the ground.

I have only played this deck in 13 games, 12 of those making up the FNM I took the deck too. I lost 3 out of those 13 games, with my one losing match coming very close, then game 3 I was quite unlucky and made a poor call, mulling my hand down to no lands. I played against two standard Red Deck Wins, a Temur Monsters and a black blue control. The 13th game was a funsies one I did with another guy before the tourney, it was a G/B deathtouchy sorta deck.

I plan on taking this deck to my next FNM and seeing how it does a second time around. I feel that as long as I don't get mana screwed and draw a creature I can drop T1 or 2, I'm pretty set.

Here is a list of some notable combos that can and have been done with this deck:- Battlewise Hoplite plus any of the instants which target and cycle. Scry the top card before you draw.-Favored Hoplite + Refocus an on the spot, pseudo-indestructible blocker (since he can't take damage due to heroic trigger).-Stubborn Denial plus prowess trigger, or a buffed up skulker/heroic guy leads to a 1 CMC negate. if your opponent drops a removal spell in the first 2 or 3 turns and you dont have a buffed guy, then they probably wont have the 1 mana to nullify the counter anyways.-Chasm Skulker gets a counter or two from up to 16 out of the 60 cards in the deck, not to mention your draw step. It proved to get quite out of hand, and a bunch of tokens from its death and help to overrun your opponent's blockers for that last bit of damage.

Please give feedback, I thought this would be a fun deck to make with some of the cards I had around, and I'd like for it to be competitive and somewhat budget friendly. I'd like to maintain synergy with the deck so swapping out any of the creatures could be difficult. I pulled a foil polluted delta from a draft several months ago and I think I might try to trade it for a playset of flooded strands (and other stuffs for value) to help my mana fixing. I played FNM with only basic lands, and found my self mulliganing in order to fix my color situation (need that plains early on).
