The Cult of Trixis

Modern Combo UBR (Grixis)

theKenny

Sideboard

Enchantment (4)

Have you ever heard the phrase "no-one expects the Spanish Inquisition"? That's kind of what we're aiming for, here. I mean, how often do you see the term "Grixis Trees" when talking about your local modern meta? I certainly haven't. It's probably not modeled to be super competitive but it's not exactly a slouch, either. The whole idea is pretty simple: stall until you cast Tree of Perdition, protect that Tree, make it really small somehow, activate its ability, pray they aren't pocketing a Disallow, and then ping them in the face for the win. It's really predictable and it's really easy to sideboard against but because people are thinking you're going straight for the Trisk combo, you're going to have a pretty good chance of squeezing out the surprise win. Just for giggles, you could sideboard a Trisk or two just to shake things up when you think they've got your number.
