I am under 18. I wouldn't be able to participate in that event.

But, actiontech I am closer to the middle, Springfield, Illinois. I never have played at a card shop. I always play with my siblings and Uncle.

I would agree that Kansas (and Nebraska) are the most boring states to drive through. They're just flat ground with absolutely nothing to look at for the entire six hours it takes to drive across.

I will hoist a pint from the Great White North if we win.

Calgary, Canada to be specific.

This might sound crazy but Goblin Test Pilot might not be bad in this deck. All of our creatures excluding Wind Drake have huge butts. I know it can hit at us but considering we have only one target thus far that matters (us) and they most likely will have bears and themselves I say we have quite a good chance to hit something that matters. And if we do it precombat it will shape the battle math so that we might take out some big blocker or they're forced to let something through.

I'm sorry, but that sounds crazy. Drawing ANYTHING besides the Pilot would help us more. Instants and sorceries will activate our creatures. Wind Drake isn't suicidal. The Pilot is just bad. There's no way to abuse it since it's random. It could also destroy itself. I know it's in color, and that's a tempting factor, but we have better things to put in our deck.

I believe the pick here has to be Hidden Strings . Someone is going to freak out when they get passed that Maze Abomination . I sort of wish we could play that thing. Oh well.

Kinda has to be the strings. It fits our plan well, and nothing else here even pretends to fit in our deck.

Yep pretty much strings or hate draft and I'm not sure we're there yet.

I think we should consider Battering Krasis for a moment, just to be thorough.

Hidden Strings is a good fit, but I don't expect we will have much trouble getting enough playable instants/sorceries by the end. I believe we are at 4 sorceries, 2 instants and 1 enchantment so far in main board picks, so we probably need no more than 3 more instants/sorceries. We are at 10 - 11 creatures right now, depending on whether we like Maze Rusher in the end, so probably need no more than 3 - 4 creatures.

So why krasis? Because we can evolve the heck out of him with our creature lineup. He also doesn't require activation to be offensive. He's 3 cmc with trample. Creatures are harder to come by.

Anyways I thought it was worth taking a pause to consider how we want to fill our remaining slots. Maybe the more important question now is what is the deck splits?

@Agog- I like Battering Krasis , but Hidden Strings is a very god sorcery though. It's definitely a bomb for us, with the added bonus of allowing us to play aggressively and still be able to block next turn in the case that it's not a game-ender. Tap opponent's blockers, and swing in for major pain, then be ready to defend the next turn. Battering Krasis is better in multiples, so that we can reliably get him out before our izzet butts come out to evolve him, but that's not the direction our deck is heading. I think we need to keep green as a very light splash color, and only take green when it's stupid not to (like with Blood). Hidden Strings is our current build is too good not to snag, even if the Krasis is a tempting creature.+1 Hidden Strings

+1 Hidden Strings Haven't we already seen Battering Krasis If so, it may pop up again. Let us try our luck.

Krasis is good yes, but I feel that we should keep green creatures to minimum and really exceptional ones like the Beetleform mage. The more creatures we have the earlier we need green. Having mainly green spells instead of creatures lets us keep forest count down and help make sure we get both red and blue early since we really need those for our creatures.

Also, fun fact: Strings combos with Weapon Surge. Surge whatever creature we've ciphered on to (without overloading it), and the copy will cast before our non-first striking creatures do damage, which in turn will give our Cyclopses an additional trigger!

Agog says... #22

Yeah, I agree - let's keep green down to a splash. The whole time my gut was saying Hidden Strings too, but had to make sure my head agreed with my gut.

Darkness1835 great quote: "I think we need to keep green as a very light splash color, and only take green when it's stupid not to (like with Blood)"

And I also agree with Draugo that sticking as much as possible to izzet creatures is better for our early game.

All good points.

Agog says... #23

hmmm., never thought of using first strike on a single creature as a way for our cipher to trigger before normal damage is applied. Great point.

actiontech says... #24

Excellent point TiredTofu, one that will certainly surprise the hell out of our opponents if we can pull it off. Suppose our board has 2 Nivix Cyclops es. We cast Hidden Strings making them 4/4 and tap two (theoretically both) blockers and attack. Cast Weapon Surge on the one we ciphered strings onto making one 7/4 and the ciphered one 8/4 first strike. FS damage hits for 8, Hidden Strings casts again making our 2nd critter 10/4 and we untap both cyclopses, or maybe 2 land if we have another spell to cast, whatever. He just ate 18 damage on possibly turn 5 and we have our walls back up. If we had a Wind Drake out it's handshake time.

This deck seems almost too good for a draft.

Darkness1835 says... #25

@TiredTofu- I think I'm missing something. Cipher needs combat damage to trigger? Can you explain please?I'm fairly certain that all damage would be dealt at once, so there's no time to buff the the cyclops with the ciphered spell, since combat damage needs hit before it gets copied anyways
