I feel that it is between Boros Guildgate, Weapon Surge, and Runner's Bane.

We could use the mana fixing by the guildgate. Weapon Surge goes great with our cyclopi. And Runner's Bane is decent removal in this format.

Absolutely Weapon Surge . Have you read that card? Absolutely disgusting with Nivix Cyclops .

Sadly, there are still cards here better than the fixing, but it seems that nobody has prioritized it yet. The guildgate and cluestone of the pack are still intact, meaning we will still have chances at fixing in this pack.

The removal we pick up should combo with what we're already doing, and Weapon Surge fits that bill. It might as well be removal.

I hate to pass more fixing in our colors, but Weapon Surge is too good to pass up with what we're doing. As stated by others, it's basically removal.

Definitely Weapon Surge .

My issue is that weapon surge isn't so much a trick as a buff. We have to cast it before combat so we can even get into combat. It does give our opponent an interesting choice though. Almost 100% of the time we get this combo off, it'll be "lose 5 life or lose a creature." I like Runners Bane though, just because it can shut down so many things. Gonna have to go with surge in the end.

It doesn't have to be used on OUR combat. It's equally potent when they think they're swinging in for profit.

I'm gonna go ahead and say right now that if we can draft nothing but cyclopi and weapon surges for the rest of the draft, we will win without even trying. Nivix blitz could absolutely be a viable archetype for us if we get lucky.

Just confirming my vote

+1 Weapon Surge

+1 Weapon Surge

It does fit right into our Nivix Cyclops , although I hate to see Advent of the Wurm miss out on having a Boros Guildgate in the mix.

+1 Weapon Surge as well.

I think we'll have some other mana fixing opportunities. Getting max cyclops + max weapon surge sounds like one hell of a good idea for this deck though. I'd even break the 3 cap for this plan if we get a chance to pick up a 4th of either one.

June 28, 2013 3:21 p.m.

For that plan we could probably cap out at 3 weapon surges. But that plan is still baller.

It's up. I like Gruul Cluestone or Punish the Enemy . Burn is limited and we should snag it when available.

I'd say grab punish the enemy since we can get it now when there's no real competition in the pack.

No wait. Alive / Well is far too good for our current cyclops idea. I'm leaning towards that.

And if we were going for a Cluestone I'd actually rather grab Azorius Cluestone to get our white fix.

June 29, 2013 3:48 a.m.

I'm not a huge fan of Alive / Well here. Punish the Enemy is a much stronger card. It seems pretty weak when you first look at it, but this is draft, not Standard. It's actually a very strong card in draft. A further signal that red is wide open.

Removal is removal, and this is removal that also deals 3 to the dome.

I'd be okay with Punish the Enemy. It still triggers our cyclopsi and is good removal.

I'm amazed that Punish has been passed to us this late. It's one of the premium removal spells in the format, considering the general lack of any removal at all. Also, it's in our colors, and plays well with our Cyclopses. Slam dunk pick, imho.

I guess you could say we'll Punish the Enemy for passing us this... Hehe

+1 Punish the Enemy

I like removal and that pushes it over the top for me. I also liked Phytoburst and Alive / Well , but they are the calibre of spell I expect will be available to us in other packs.

Looks like mana fixing is in the back seat again... oh well, gotta play it as it comes.

No mention of Deputy of Acquittals here? It's pretty much the resto angel in this format. It can save either our Beetleform Mage or one of our Nivix Cyclops es from certain doom. It fills the ever-so-difficult 2cmc slot on the curve. And a flashed in 2/2 blocker can be a nice surprise. It's an additional commitment to white but I think it bears a review at least.

Other than that I'm good with Punish the Enemy . Triggers our cyclopses and hits for 3, maybe kills something along the way. Good value pick here for sure.

I'm also all for Punish the Enemy .

June 29, 2013 9:30 a.m.

Deputy of Acquittals is an amazing card, don't get me wrong. The problem is its colors at the moment. We're being greedy as it is going RUG and thinking about splashing white. If we press our luck we're going to sabotage ourselves with a flashy but unplayable deck. Better to stick to the current plan.
