Casey4321, Lilbrudder, Raging_Squiggle, PartyJ, n0bunga, Love-in-Theory: Let's kick this off! :)

To start, let's all post a deck we've built recently that we consider unfinished, and could use some help. Here's mine:

I also recently bought an Animar, Soul of Elements on impulse, and I'm trying to think of something interesting to build with it (possibly involving pieces of my Rashmi deck, which is proving uninteresting). Any ideas? :)

I was directed here by a notification, although this is a very interesting and compelling idea. May I be a part of it?

Dear everyone: have any of you ever experimented with an Animar deck? I'm trying to figure out which direction to go with it. I was thinking about playing an artifact-based list (with an obvious focus on artifact creatures).

Daedalus19876- A buddy of mine has an Animar deck IRL. I'll take a look at next time I play it.

I love how the only similar deck is competitive Sisay.

I don't know anything about Animar, sorry. Never built Animar in any form, or even played against/with one.

I would be happy and honored to be involved. :)

Megalomania: Awesome! Welcome to the club! Haha.

I'll add you now.

Incidentally, who added the Abattoir Ghoul to the list?

I'm not sure.

When it comes to animar, it depends on your level of competitiveness. A casual deck can run morphs tribal. A more lethal version runs combos around Cloudstone Curio and friends, playing large eldrazi or Hangarback Walker or swinging in with an "infinitely" large Animar.

Casey4321, Love-in-Theory, Raging_Squiggle, or anyone else who's interested:

I was planning something on the more competitive side of the spectrum, albeit not quite the normal deck. Cloudstone Curio and Ancestral Statue shenanigans will be a major point of the deck.

I was thinking something pseudo-stormy. Mostly creatures with entirely colorless costs, and I could chain them for free if I stack the mana costs correctly. As in, I cast a 1-cost creature then 2-cost creature then a 3-cost creature, etc, and pay zero mana total (off of an Animar with only 1 counter). I.e. heavy value abuse to generate huge board states very fast. This is also really "cute" with Paradoxical Outcome.

There are also five viable infinite storm combos in those colors that I'm aware of: Cloudstone Curio+two creatures that are free with Animar; Cloudstone Curio+Aluren; Aluren+self bounce creature; Palinchron with Animar at 4 counters; or Ancestral Statue if Animar has 4 counters.

All of these also have the side effect of making Animar into a LARGE/LARGE, so I could win by giving Animar trample, or just playing Grapeshot or Aetherflux Reservoir or something. And of course if the combo doesn't go off, there's always a Blightsteel Colossus or Emrakul, the Promised End to close out the game :)

Are there any cards that you could think of that could help with this strategy? Primarily in giving Animar counters faster, cheap and strong creatures that happen to be colorless in cost, or giving me the draw that's required for a storm deck...

I've never tried building proper storm in EDH - several of you have far more experience in that arena than me. What's worked for you?

enpc: Whoops, sorry! That's done now - I forgot to add you to the list.

February 18, 2017 7:34 p.m.

Well, Hardened Scales comes to mind, as does Doubling Season when it comes to speeding up the counters.

Vorel of the Hull Clade also comes to mind.

Aetherflux Reservoir can pair very well with comboing with Cloudstone. X cost creatures are also helpful, as you can dictate what the X will be to make them free each time, Hangarback Walker, Endless One, Walking Ballista

Obviously not close to finished, haha.

Hey guys, I made some (3) custom cards for my EDH deck! One's the commander, and I think they're balanced. here's the imgur album if you want to take a look.

AwezomePozzum: Those look interesting! I think you could actually reduce their mana costs significantly, though - they're kind of overcosted (which isn't usually the case with custom cards).

You could remove the "Remove all bloom counters..." thing from Cassandra and she would still not be overpowered :)

You could cut 2 mana off of Seraph of the Ocean Spear (great art on that one btw!)

And I think you could get away with lowering the "threshold" on Angelic Ascension to 5, perhaps.

Thanks for the advice! I'll be back with some changes.

AwezomePozzum says... #25

I changed them (the imgur album will be done later), but I pretty much did what you suggested. However, instead of taking 2 off of Seraph, I took 1 off. a 5/5 flying exalted that moves auras for 6 is still very powerful. putting it at 5 is a bit broken, honestly.
