This made my night; I played competitive limited resources in Legacy to make people scoop cause I would just draw them out. The amount of thought and effort in this is truly fantastic, I appreciate your sadistic playstyle!

As a note, Prophet of Kruphix is banned now, if you are trying to keep this updated.

dofborg, thanks for the kind words!

Gamerjfire, Thanks for the reminder. I haven't updated for that banning yet.

Why not play Laboratory Maniac as a backup plan? Also why is there a sideboard here? There is no sideboard in commander.

Hey guys, thanks for checking out my deck.

huschli,
Council's Judgment is a good catch. I'll have to update to answer that card as well as check out any other Will of the Council cards. Also, the Containment Priest issue is a total boneheaded oversight on my part. In building this deck, I previously reconciled with myself a question about Primal Surge triggers in that they stack in whatever order you choose only after the entire spell has resolved. This gave me a false sense of security about the overall order that creatures ETB, and therefore when Containment Priest came out, I threw it in the deck without thinking. I may have to figure out a process for stacking the triggers to bypass the effect. Maybe bouncing the cards affected by the trigger or ending the turn or something. Maybe removing Priest altogether.

As for the other issues. I am unconcerned about hand and library disruption, wraths and pre-combo removal. It's all part of the game, and the concept of the deck cannot possibly concern itself with fighting this sort of disruption or it would be spread too thin. Ideally no key pieces of the pillow fort should be deployed before Primal Surge, so removal shouldn't come into play. As for Sorin, Solemn Visitor's emblem, Sigarda, Host of Herons protects against that. Avacyn, Angel of Hope protects against a preexisting Eye of Singularity as the Oracle text is "destroy".

Ocelot44,
Laboratory Maniac is unnecessary as the deck will have absolutely 0 problem winning if it combos out and outright winning on the spot is not that pertinent to the concept anyway. As for the sideboard, it is explained mid-way through the 'What Now?' section of the deck description, and the deck is designed such that the sideboard is "fun stuff" that can be safely ignored if your playgroup frowns on the EDH sideboard rule.

Thanks for the feedback!

So someone playing Gaddock Teeg as their commander basically hoses your deck. That being said the only way I've come up with stopping your board state is not letting it happen to begin with, IE stopping Primal Surge. Every answer I can think of can be bounced by Dispersing Orb.

Side note, if someone was wanting a version of this deck that has a more clear Win-con. They could add Dark Depths combo.

Question: at what point does this deck achieve invulnerability (for the purposes of me trying to break it)?Is it when your deck is on the board, a Meddling Mage is naming every card in existence and the stack is empty? Or is it after Genesis Wave resolves? What cards are permitted to leave as part of a combo but maintain the lock? Due to the rigorous nature of your deck I think this need to be defined.

I'm also a little confused as to why some of the cards are in her if the MM already cover everything. Do they protect your combo?

Anyway, I love this amazing and unique idea. Plus 1.

thecakeisalie42,
The deck is invulnerable once you have flipped your entire deck off Primal Surge then subsequently completed the sequence of plays required to make your Meddling Mage army. Keep in mind, Meddling Mage doesn't need to name every card in existence, just the ones that the other cards in the deck can't deal with.

As for your second question, I guess it is a matter of the journey the deck took. Technically, I could just play a deck with the Meddling Mage combo, naming every card in Magic, but originally that wasn't even a component in my deck let alone the end concept. The Meddling Mages themselves are to plug other vulnerabilities.

If I had to define an ultimate goal, it is to be as permissive as possible while still remaining invulnerable. If I had to define it, the first metric is to be 100% invulnerable, the second metric is to achieve this in as few card slots as possible and the third metric is to leave the highest quantity of distinct cards still playable by opponents (so for example, cutting off one entire color would leave more playable cards than cutting off all spells). Balancing the second and third metrics is a bit nebulous because technically I could choose to use simpler hard-locks in exchange for cutting off more cards. As stated earlier, I could also just make Meddling Mages naming every card that the deck is vulnerable to, but that sort of undermines the journey/concept the deck was built on. The deck would just be a completely difference concept at that point (in spite of how I named it...maybe I should rename it).

Overall, the deck still currently blanks a LOT of cards and interaction, but it's still far less than a Meddling Mage naming everything. It's a continuous work in progress.

Thanks for the +1

Are you (the pilot) allowed to make copies of Elesh Norn to kill problem creatures? If not, why do you have the anthems on the banlist?

*if so

So I think I have a hole in your wall.

With the triggered ability of Sun Titan, your opponent can resurrect a Vanishing.

Yeah that's a card.

But anyway, when an aura is put onto the battlefield, its controller has to attach it to a creature. This does not actually target, and thus gets around your shroud. So they put it on one of your lock pieces and phase it out.

Other troublesome auras that could be cheated into play include Flickerform, Caught in the Brights, and Weight of Conscience. Meddling Mage can't name the auras, just the cards that put them onto the battlefield.

From a brief search, that's Academy Rector, Sun Titan, and Zur the Enchanter.

Wow I spent a lot of time researching and figuring this out, but I think it works. Tell me if I missed something.

I mean, you can Dispersing Orb away the problems, but from what I understand you want to avoid that?

thecakeisalie42,You're definitely correct and I've had Sun Titan on my watch list before. Academy Rector and Zur I never considered. Fortunately it appears they all share something in common: an activated ability, so I could just make a few Pithing Needles to name those cards and any similar cards. Thanks for finding that one!

March 25, 2017 4:06 p.m.

If I'm correct, they have triggered abilities, which Pithing Needle does not stop.

Activated abilities are always written [Cost]: [Effect].

March 25, 2017 5:23 p.m.

j2los says... #15

thecakeisalie42,All the ones you named have a ':' and are activated except Caught in the Brights which admittedly I looked over, but in that particular case Null Rod stops the vehicles, (and alternatively you could needle the vehicles as well)

March 25, 2017 5:55 p.m.

j2los says... #16

thecakeisalie42,Also worth mentioning is that naming Sun Titan with Meddling Mage stops all that in the first place, resurrection strategies are locked down by Samurai of the Pale Curtain (which also stops Academy Rector's ability and other ways of cheating into play are generally covered by the other lock pieces.

In addition, Academy Rector and Zur the Enchanter are also locked out by Mindlock Orb

March 25, 2017 6 p.m.

True! I messed up on those activated abilities and missed those other locks too. I'll keep trying. I have a couple angles I'm working :3

Is this where I should keep posting ideas or will it clog the comments?

March 25, 2017 6:19 p.m.

j2los says... #18

thecakeisalie42,

Go for it. I can always archive some comments. Actually since you brought up vehicles, I think Ensoul Artifact on a vehicle and attacking with Caught in the Brights might be a hole? I'll have to think about that one.

Nevermind Bruna, the Fading Light and stops all spells, I thought it was just instants/sorceries. She's just stupid, honestly.

March 25, 2017 6:28 p.m.

and by Bruna I mean Brisela, Voice of Nightmares

March 25, 2017 6:29 p.m.

I was looking at that too. All the ways to animate artifacts are activated abilities or noncreature spells that I can find.

So a question:

Certain boardstates of your opponents can break the lock, but they have some setup prior to the lock, and several can even evade all of the bouncing with Dispersing Orb/infinite Meddling Mages. Are you interested in those, or are we assuming opponents have nothing to worry about before the lock?

March 25, 2017 8:02 p.m.

I'm going to assume no, seeing as you have Dromar, the Banisher on your banlist. Also, if your opponent has their own Grand Abolisher it will protect their permanents on their turn.

Wall of Nets + Avatar of Slaughter/Warmonger Hellkite

-All your creatures are forced to attack, your opponent blocks with the Wall and gets to exile one, which can break your lock.

Hellkite Tyrant + Sun Quan, Lord of Wu/Torrent Elemental

-The Tyrant can swing at you either unblockably or through your tapped creatures and steal all your artifacts, some of which are lock pieces.

Sheoldred, Whispering One/Meren of Clan Nel Toth + Something on the banned list

-Sheoldred and Meren have triggered abilities that rez things from the graveyard, such as Ixidron (but Meren has to have generated at least one counter to be proliferated through Atraxa, Praetors' Voice for example).

Garruk, Caller of Beasts/Gideon, Ally of Zendikar Emblem

-While your opponent cannot ultimate their walkers since you can Pithing Needle them once you go off,but if these are preexisting, there's nothing you can do about them. There's no way around this other than starting the game over with Karn Liberated, so I wouldn't worry too much about them.

Arbiter of the Ideal

-If this untaps, it can drop "banlisted" cards onto the battlefield.

So those are a few ideas I have for banlist additions. Also, I named my note page for this project Breaker of Armies just for lolz :3

March 29, 2017 2:13 p.m.

Wall of Nets gets shut off by Brisela, Voice of Nightmares, so that one doesn't work.

March 29, 2017 2:17 p.m.

Correction: You can get counters from the other Experience Counter commanders, so you can do everything under the lock.
