I would really want to play some ways to get my Commander back in case someone played Terminus or Hinder . Without Talrand, your deck is full of cantrips and cards that don't actually do anything. I normally don't recommend this card, but Ring of Three Wishes would be my ideal way of doing that, because most of the time you use it it will be to tutor up things that aren't your commander, but it can also get her back.

I really want to see Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots in this deck to protect your commander from spot removal and Darksteel Plate to protect her from most wraths, because as I've said your deck is full of bad cantrips if you don't have your general. Riptide Laboratory and Cavern of Souls also help to protect your general.

Coastal Piracy and Bident of Thassa would both be incredibly effective in your deck.

You need actual board wipes, not just putting things in people's hands again, so you could run Nevinyrral's Disk , All Is Dust and Oblivion Stone .

Isochron Scepter , Spelltwine , Bribery , Blatant Thievery , Knowledge Exploitation , Rite of Replication , Blue Sun's Zenith , Turnabout , Gauntlet of Power and Curse of the Swine are some inexpensive cards I would strongly advise, and if budget isn't that big of an issue, add Cryptic Command , Mana Drain , and Force of Will .

If you're not dead-set on the 1 creature for the Pronteus Staff thing I feel like you could stand a lot to gain from it. Snapcaster Mage , Diluvian Primordial , Lunar Mystic , Steel Hellkite , and Tidespout Tyrant are all the creatures I can think of off the top of my head that would be fantastic for this deck. If you do decide to run with it, Temporal Mastery would be a lot easier to abuse =)

Anyway, have fun! Obviously you can't fit all of those suggestions in there, but they should be helpful =)

Thank you very much for the advice. My play group and I are mostly very casual however, that being said I often do run into the problem of mass removal and tucks. Turns out I have some of the cards you've suggested which is awesome. I feel that if I cut down on instants/sorceries in fear that I will stray away from what Talrand does.

I am going to swap in most of the suggested cards. When I get them they'll go right in. Hopefully it makes the deck more potent and reliable.

Thank you for the help!! =)

if your playgroup is casual that's pretty scummy of them to tuck your commander!

No problem! And yeah I hate it when my commander is tucked, but I kinda like doing that to other people, lol

Have you considered replacing either Essence Scatter or Remove Soul with Nullify as the UU instead of 1U doesn't matter since it's mono-blue and Nullify can stop auras as well. Similar thing between Rethink and Cancel as Cancel has 1 more U but is more consistent the Rethink as there's no way out of the counter.

That is a good idea. I will make that swap, thank you.

You could try using Elite Arcanist as another way to copy spells like you're doing with Isochron Scepter

Future Sight might be good. It allows for some pretty stupid card advantage =-)

This is a great build! I love it! Not many of my friends play commander, but with the few people I know that do play the format, this could really kick butt. The deck's cards all have great synergy with each other and the commander really gets crazy after a while. Best part for me, it's hella cheap to make! +1 for you, good sir/mad'am!

Indeed it does. when I buy the new duel decks i'll have a copy to but in. thanks!

byepolarbear says... #13

Yeah I didn't know the card existed until I played with the new duel deck lol

1 thing about the duel decks: If you actually duel them Future Sight is by far the most powerful card in the decks. It's busted. Played with them with my GF and resolving Future Sight basically just meant I win.

I'd also suggest Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar because of how insane the deck manipulation is. Digging that deep EVERY draw is bonkers especially with a control deck drawing a ton of cards. Distant Melody for 4 becomes (dig 3, put 1 in your hand) x 4 so basically dig 12 cards into your deck and hand pick the best 4 lol

If you want people to hate you more Declaration of Naught call their generals name aka just get them back to the command zone then you know what it is. Also Leyline of Anticipation can be quite helpful for keeping all of your deck instant speed.

I like the idea for leyline. But I tried playing Declaration of Naught but everyone hates it more then i'd like them too. Thanks for the input though!!!!

Don't worry you still have friends even if you do counter anything and everything =D . finally posted my deck online so I can get some more tips, tricks, and help to go head to head with you.

The one thing that I don't like about the deck is that you aren't playimg Mystic Speculation . It really helps you dig and get your army going. Maybe it could replace Whispers of the Muse . Otherwise I love it and will be remodeling my deck a little +1 for sure

I didn't even know that Mystic Speculation existed! I like it, I may replace Whispers of the Muse with it once I get one. Thanks!

I lied, Coat of Arms is a very good card in this type of deck and you might want to consider it.

Now that is a thing of beauty, damn near brought a tear to my eye. I need one of these.

that Coat of Arms is just scary good for this kind of deck. I'm actually cringing at the thought of it.

Have you considered Sphinx-Bone Wand ? Also, High Tide and Turnabout are both really broken cards, especially Turnabout . You could also consider Long-Term Plans and Mystical Tutor and Akroma's Memorial .

June 24, 2014 11:17 p.m.

Swannigan says... #23

Sphinx-Bone Wand seems expensive (CMC wise) and High Tide will do wonders for me and its in a reasonable price range ($ wise). I like Long-Term Plans as well. I'll try out the Bone-Wand seeing as I have it. Thank you for your suggestions!

You should look at my decks creatures they all work really well in this deck Talrand, sky-army summoner as well as my spells (particularly the ones I'm NOT running like Counterspell is too vanilla and dose not do anything else and Blue Sun's Zenith costs too much your better off running Divination and Counsel of the Soratami for cards drawn vs mana used) and if you have any questions as to why I'm running (or not running) anything ask and I'll tell you my reasonings

I like your build a lot, seems way more fun when I go to reformat this deck I will style it after yours. Seems better in a casual environment. Thanks!
