Against which decks is Stensia Masquerade usefull ?Is chandra usefull ? Same for Kalitas ?

  • Personnaly i decided to don't play smoldering march in this kind of deck, most of the time it's annoying af.

This is an aggro deck that pumps up your creatures with +1/+1 counters, Stensia Masquerade gives not only pumps them up, but it gives them a little bit more survival power against creatures with high power and less toughness.

Do you want to get rid of your hand cause it sucks/has madness cards in it? Well Chandra, Flamecaller has you covered with her 0 ability that is OP with madness. She gets you through your deck, deals final blows to big creatures/players, and has extra attackers/blockers. No wonder it's a 20 dollars xD

Actually Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet works great if you want to actually not be overrun by bigger creatures, works great against red aggro mini guys, and he can pump himself up a lot if there's a stalemate. Oh, your vampire is about to die, lets not let it go in vain and give Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet 2 extra +1/+1 counters.

And Smoldering Marsh isn't "annoying af", it's a better Cinder Barrens.

So XorKoS, the next time you hate on my deck, think about what you're going to say first :3

It's not worthless hate, i play something similar, and i tried stensia masquerade, it almost never gave me a win 1 turn earlier, often when my creatures hits the opponents they often don't need a +1/+1 counter.

Then chandra is nice, ok, but a 6 drop in this kind of deck ? Honestly i finish the game most of the time with 5 land on the field (with often a discarded land), not sure if it's worth/usefull most of the time, looks like a dead card in hand that i will discard or that will stay in hand and then disable Asylum Visitor power.

And lastly, i considered Kalitas, but since it's a Rakdos deck we have nothing to protect our guys, honestly i don't want to put all my eggs in the same basket. Sure if somebody is going to die it's a free power up for kalitas, but i personnaly decided to cut him and add some removal instead. Or avacyn's judgment in main, for some lategame gurn.

And these comments only aim to improve both our decks, sharing our thoughts.

Sorry about that, I shouldn't have said it was hate ;-;

To me, it's either Chandra, Flamecaller or Avaricious Dragon, and I would rather use Chandra even if it means an extra 2 mana. I'm going to play test all these cards, so when I do I'll message you back about how it went.

Again, I'm sorry about saying that was hate, I hope you can appreciate this apology because you are a great, m8.

I think you should try out Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip. Sweet card that nets you life, fuels madness, and gets your vampires back.

I'm adding Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip to the sideboard to switch with Chandra, Flamecaller if she isn't useful late game. I never really thought of using her, thank you for suggesting KillerKorpse99 :D

April 30, 2016 10:23 a.m.

Np, but how consistently can you get to 6 mana?

April 30, 2016 2:27 p.m.

ccmaci says... #12

At FNM last Friday KillerKorpse99, I got to six mana around turn 6/8, and then had Chandra, Flamecaller in my hand between the start of the game to about round 9. Usually the game ended before I could get her out because of how aggro the deck was. In the FNM I was 4/1 in standings and got 6th place, we all split top 8 for $18.75 (we each got that much).

ccmaci,
Sorry for causing the "WTF?!?" :-D

I'm running Wolves this season but my friend michael921 is a huge Drana fan. I stumbled across your deck somehow and I thought he'd be interested in seeing it ... I tagged him so he'll get a notification and drop by at some point.

Draw well!

I built my own RB vampires deck a while ago, relying upon the synergy between them. I ended up not liking the deck as much, but I'm glad that you're liking it! You might want to consider other forms of removal for your sideboard, such as Ultimate Price, Ruinous Path, Exquisite Firecraft, or Fiery Temper. When it comes to the main board, I would say Chandra, Flamecaller feels a little bit awkward due to the CMC compared to the rest of the deck. Potential replacements could be Insolent Neonate or Indulgent Aristocrat. These of course just depend on your your play testing turns out. Good luck brewing!!

If you want to check out my different take on Drana, you can see it here. Good luck brewing!

I've got a R/B madness deck quite similar to this, but I took out some of the lesser impactful vampires for Ambuscade Shaman (who has an INSANE synergy with Olivia, btw), and Thunderbreak Regent. I dropped the Olivia's Bloodsworn and the Incorrigible Youths in my deck for the Shaman's and Thunderbreak's, and the power level definitely went up. Also, look into Insolent Neonate and Village Messenger  Flip. The Neonate is a madness outlet that you can enchant with a Skin Invasion  Flip and get a card out of it as well.

I'll put up my decklist and link it if you'd like to check it out.

I love vampire tribal, but with Olivia, Mobilized for War you can play all the best black and red creatures and MAKE them vampires ;).

You might need more Olivias and Dranas to make the deck work.

Hey there, nice combo. +1 from me

I kind of happened into the same combo with my new Hasty Is Tasty deck. What do you think about going to the full 4 copies of Olivia and Drana? I'm finding that people are going to want to remove them immediately, so having backup copies is good. Plus, if you want them both in hand by turn 4 at latest, then a full playset of each is the way to go.

Worst case scenario, you can discard the extra copies to Olivia for the counter+haste on the other creatures. :)

(Also, I love Smoldering Marsh. Really helps you with the whole double-cost red, double-cost black thing!)

Thank you TheBuj and sunshine1223 for giving the suggestion of putting in more Dranas and Olivias, thinking about it now I'm sure it's needed.

Also thx for the +1 upvote, means a lot to me :D

I wish I had kept my Chandra, Flamecaller I traded it a while ago before SOI came with madness cards. I might have to go and buy more.

Do you have any ideas for my own vampire deck? I didn't want to run 4 of each for Drana/Olivia since I only own 2 of each. I only have 1 copy of Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet too. I managed to originally open 2 expedition lands, a Prairie Stream and Fetid Heath plus an Atarka's Command at a draft event and I traded one of them, the Prairie Stream for Kalitas + Olivia and other stuff. Then I got my second Drana, Liberator of Malakir for the Atarka's Command. That's the only reason I have more than 1 of each of the legendary vampires now. So I was wondering if what I had seems fine currently?

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/22-05-16-descent-into-madness/

It even managed to get me in the top 8 for gameday in my local area even before I had the second Drana, Liberator of Malakir, the second Olivia, Mobilized for War and the Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet that I now added to it. +1 on this deck anyways I want to finally add.

Thank you Delta-117 for the upvote, it means a lot :D

When looking at your deck, it looked fine, the only thing I would change is Alms of the Vein and just take it out of the sideboard. From my experiences with the card, it's either you know that 3 damage is going to win the game... or it just gives you 3 life at possible instant speed. I suggest replacing it for one of the sideboard cards from Dragons. Rending Volley kills Dragonlord Ojutai and Self-Inflicted Wound is just good against any / creature. I would suggest using both in your sideboard.

I myself don't play Tormenting Voice, just because it might be a bit too slow for if I want a madness from it. If it suit your deck though, go wild with it.

If you can't get your hands on Chandra, Flamecaller, play 2 of Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip instead. I use her in the sideboard just in case I'm playing an aggro deck I wouldn't be able to play Chandra.

When I got Kolaghan's Command, I didn't think it would do good in my deck, just because of its abilities seeming bad, but this card is really underrated for decks like ours. Play it, not for the discard effect, but for artifact removal, extra little damage, and most of all, returning that creature to your hand from your graveyard (though I have used the discard effect on myself for a Fiery Temper and it was awesome xD)

I'm typing this in the middle of class and the bell is about to ring, luckily this is all I have to offer.

Gl deck building!

P.S. I upvoted your deck :3
