Just a thought, swamp the island for a blue black shock/ dual land. And add Razaketh, the Foulblooded then you can have a demon to search for that can get whatever you need

Ultramegalord That kinda ruins the original deck idea, however it is a very good suggestion so I will put him in the may board. Thanks!

TepigAggro Yes, this deck is modern legal.

umm you only have two mana producing lands in the deck so you can't play your wincon

also if you where to play a demon Griselbrand would work better than Razaketh, the Foulblooded as it has a card draw ability (wining the turn you play Laboratory Maniac) and lifelink to keep you alive

amicdeep That was an oversight on my part, I don't know how I didn't catch that. Griselbrand would probably be better but I didn't really want to play a demon in the first place so I think razaketh is out.

Without having read anything else, I looked over the deck and it took me a moment to figure out the plan. I looked at the creatures, then the instants, then responded out loud, "Oh my god, that's amazing, I love it!" So you got my like, and I will probably be trying this out myself for a few games. Good job.

shadowfrost Thanks! If you do end up trying it out I would be interested to see how it goes as when I played the deck it was only running one copy of Surgical Extraction.

a deck that doesnt need manna to setup its combo. thats pretty great, but am i right to assume that:1. If you dont have surgical extraction in your first few draws you probably just lose the game2. If library maniac gets countered you lose the game.3. If library maniac gets exiled, burned or destroyed, you lose the game.4. If your opponent doesn't happen to have an exile, burn, kill-spell or counter spell by turn 4-5(when realistically you win the game) its hilarious!

Sure it probably only wins about 30% of the time, but its totally worth it!

xhuggels: Yes, if you don't have the extraction in the first few draws you will lose, if the Laboratory Maniac gets counters you lose, and if it dies you lose.

So then what are the odds you win lol. I cant think of any deck that wouldnt have an answer when they need one. Maybe mono-green elves or something, or just a really unlucky guy lol. Must be super fun on those days you actually win lol.

also, what if you have to discard a card or exile the top card of your library after the cannonfodder apostle is out of the picture. there are soooooo many ways to lose. is it worth $500?

December 24, 2017 8:29 p.m.

aceofrainbows says... #14

Well only $500 if you foil it out and use an expedition.

LOL this deck is hilarious and I love it! One question though, what happens if you are playing against something like ponza and they destroy one of your lands? Do you just lose? This deck is truly the dumbest, you have my upvote.

xhuggels says... #16

I didnt even think about it, but where on earth are you going to find 52 foiled copies of Shadowborn Apostle? Honestly if i even play against a foiled version of this i just concede, cause whoever took the time to collect it deserves the pay-to-win all the time.

spudman3d says... #17

xhuggels I didn't build the deck with the intent to win, I was inspired by decks like 11.7% OF THE TIME, IT WORKS EVERY TIME. and wanted to find another dumb way to win.

I HAVE A SUGGESTION!

Change the one swamp to a Forest and Add a single

Avoid Fate Just in case you have one card left in your graveyard still have your maniac left out and need one spell to counter that magma spray or whatever else your opponent might try to blast your creature with.

vasarto77 I like the idea of protection, but wouldn't Blossoming Defense be better as it can protect from multiple removal spells?

cubemaster123 says... #21

If they have land destruction or removal you just lose.

I like it! Go big or go home! Why else play Modern over Standard?

Working on something similar in a partial way. Gonna mill a portion of my deck with a single Surgical Extraction in mid game to give me far more reliable draw results of a combo I've been trying to work out in my head.

Pact of Negation

Simian Spirit Guide, Desperate Ritual, Reverberate

Quicksilver Amulet, Cackling Counterpart

Just some of the creatures I will be using for the finisher.

Elite Arcanist, Living Lore, Torrential Gearhulk

Along with sacrificial mana creatures in the early game as alternatives to the instants.

Definitely a work in progress. Keep remaking the deck from scratch as I discover more words.

Loreshadow I like the suggestions, but imo trying to make more consistent and competitive is against the idea of the deck. You don't need to listen to me though, do whatever you want.

If you are trying to save a few $$ it would be to use Rat Colony instead of Shadowborn Apostle or Relentless Rats

May 13, 2018 1:38 p.m.

azuradawn says... #25

Yeah I did the same thing with Rat Colony and cheaper prints and I added Blossoming Defense to be a 1 card sideboard. Griselbrand I ignored seeing how he's near impossible to bring out.
