The Epic Hive

Commander / EDH

Beandrew

Jodah is here and ready to show just how EPIC he can be.

The main goal of this deck is to cast one of the epic spells while Hive Mind is out, making it to where you and your opponents are only copying the epic spell each turn such as Endless Swarm, Enduring Ideal, Eternal Dominion, Neverending Torment, and lastly, Undying Flames. Now of course, we on the other hand, make it difficult for our opponents to use the epic to their advantage. One of the best cards, if not the best card in the deck, Price of Knowledge, is one of our clear ways to win this epic battle. Omniscience is a card that is present, but I am unsure if it truly belongs in the deck. It doesn't really fit the theme and is a little too powerful, but it makes the deck easier to play when it is out. There are really only 4 other types of spells in the deck. There are the epics themselves and the cards you want out when you cast them, the tutors to get there, the ramp to speed it up, and protection to make sure nothing bad happens when you go the try to bring an epic conclusion.

The Epics.

Endless Swarm

Now giving your opponent creatures each turn doesn't seem like it can benefit us, but there are a couple of ways we can prevent the creatures from doing anything valuable. Elderscale Wurm does not seem like a fantastic card, but when we have him out he plays double duty with the green epic as well as the red one. Orbs of Warding does something similar as its used in the green and the red one, but it even makes it into the blue and black ones too. Then we haveSolemnity paired with Phyrexian Unlife; these together work for the green and red one as well. You'll notice that there is not a great win con after we cast Endless Swarm and that is an issue, you'll have to set yourself up with a Form of the Dragon or a Price of Knowledge before that happens.

Enduring Ideal

This is my favorite epic of them all. Once you cast this, your main goal should be to get out Stranglehold. If for some chance, you can't get one before you cast Enduring Ideal then you should make sure you have an Aven Mindcensor out first. Then you have a couple of ways to win, you could already have an Ob Nixilis, Unshackled out, or you can simply search for a Form of the Dragon from here it should be pretty easy for you to win this match, just getting out your protection in the form of Sterling Grove, Privileged Position, and maybe a Leyline of Sanctity, or even Solemnity and Phyrexian Unlife depending on the situation.

Eternal Dominion

This card is so close to being my favorite. You need to make sure your opponents can't search your deck. That is how you lose. To stop this we have Aegis of the Gods, Leyline of Sanctity, Orbs of Warding, and Witchbane Orb. Then to help them stop searching that far altogether, we have again, Stranglehold and Aven Mindcensor. We can even play Ob Nixilis, Unshackled we we epic this one too. If not, oh well. Once our opponents are locked, their wincons are our wincons.

Neverending Torment

You can start to see how powerful these cards become because again we have a lot of the same cards at our disposal again: Aegis of the Gods, Leyline of Sanctity, Orbs of Warding,Witchbane Orb, and Stranglehold all put you at favor to win the match. Aven Mindcensor can put in a little bit of work, but not enough to win you the game if your opponents team up against you. After you have the Neverending Torment lock in play, you just slowly exile your opponents' decks to victory!

Undying Flames

Once again, Aegis of the Gods, Leyline of Sanctity, Orbs of Warding, andWitchbane Orb all come straight to the front of the list for the red epic too. Phyrexian Unlife and Solemnity still doing their same old thing as with Platinum Emperion, but now we abuse a card no one seems to know, Purity. Along with Purity we have the gold old card, Elderscale Wurm. However, both of these two need a little protection such as Avacyn, Angel of Hope or Privileged Position.

The Ramp.

The ramp is easy, Birds of Paradise, Noble Hierarch, and Sakura-Tribe Elder make up the creatures, while all ten signets, Sol Ring, and Chromatic Lantern make up the artifact ramp. That's it. That's all the ramp the deck plays.

The Protection.

This is full of just some simple stuff to keep our permanents in play that we need to epically win. Cards such as Avacyn, Angel of Hope, Asceticism, Privileged Position, and Sterling Grove. Then we have some mass removal in the forms of Cyclonic Rift, Wrath of God, Supreme Verdict, Damnation, Decree of Pain, and lastly Blasphemous Act. Then to top it all off we have the greatest recursion spell, Eternal Witness

The Tutors.

This deck requires a lot of set up and we have to find some way to get there. So this deck plays tutors for almost everything.

For Anything: Rune-Scarred Demon, Sidisi, Undead Vizier, Vampiric Tutor, Conflux, Demonic Tutor, and Gamble

For the Epics: Mystical Tutor and Wild Research

For Hive Mind: Academy Rector, Enlightened Tutor, Idyllic Tutor, Wargate, and Plea for Guidance

For the Combos: Chord of Calling, and Worldly Tutor

Altogether this deck is a blast, and I'm sure you'll enjoy, THE EPIC HIVE.
