Maybeboard

During the winter I became nostalgic for the beach (specifically the Outer Banks). Due to this and my love for H.P. Lovecraft, I decided it would be fun to make an ocean-themed deck. It wasn't long before I found Wrexial, and it was krakens, leviathans, and octopuses all the way down from there. However, the deck has changed since then, filling the library with mill, copy, and steal cards.

This deck reaches its endgame from a few different ways:

  1. Commander Damage: This deck likes to use Wrexial, the Risen Deep as much as possible. Because of this, we have Counterspell , Arcane Denial , Swan Song , Lightning Greaves , and Swiftfoot Boots to keep him protected. We can also bounce him to our hand with Boomering if someone plays a boardwipe. As for dealing damage, Wrexial has a helluvan ability with Swampwalk and Islandwalk that will most often let him through (at least in my playgroup- if going up against nonblue, nonblack players, we have Tidal Warrior to back us up). Rogue's Passage can be thrown in here in case that needs to happen more often. Otherwise, we have Trepanation Blade and Fireshrieker . The former will allow us to make Wrexial a big swinger while getting in some mill (hopefully to get a juicy instant or sorcery in the graveyard). The latter will allow us to trigger Wrexial's ability twice, thus allowing us to pick two instants or sorceries to copy while also dealing twice the damage Wrexial normally would.

  2. Mill: This is not a very effective endgame, yet it is still quite available to us in this deck. Duskmantle Guildmage or Bloodchief Ascension with Mindcrank will trigger an infinite combo, milling everyone at the table. Sadistic Sacrament will be worked into this deck so we can exile any Eldrazi Titans that might keep an opponent from being milled. Other than the infinite combo above, we also have Fraying Sanity + Traumatize available to us, but this will only completely knock out one player. Certain boardstates will make milling an easy option, however. This would be in a scenario where we have cards like Consecrated Sphinx and Rhystic Study out with a Sphinx's Tutelage to back them up. Plenty of card draw exists, here, so Tutelage will majorly come in handy.

  3. Combat Damage: Although this isn't strictly a timmy deck, we can still use big beaters to kill our opponents. With Vampire Hexmage , Dark Ritual , and Thing in the Ice  , it's possible for us to have a turn two 7/8 Leviathan Horror. Hell, we could get it on turn one with those cards and a Chrome Mox . Looking to include Dark Depths in this deck for the flavor, plus the ability to pull that thing out with the Hexmage. Our other big beaters will be Consuming Aberration , Sewer Nemesis , Mortivore , and Stormtide Leviathan .

  4. (Bonus) Rise!: Rise of the Dark Realms will be a wincon against Timmy decks if we've taken a mill strategy throughout the game. It's a high mana cost, but with rocks like Thran Dynamo , Jet Medallion , and Sol Ring , we will be able to reach it.

Updates Add

Heading more into the direction of Mill, I have replaced Djinn of Wishes with Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker and Mind Funeral with Duskmantle Guildmage.

Mirko Vosk has the same effect as Mind Funeral except its every time he deals combat damage, so hopefully it allows me more uses. Also, he's a 2/4 flyer which Djinn of Wishes was, as well, so he'll provide as a nice flying blocker, too.

Duskmantle Guildmage is one of my new win conditions- provided I'm able to play him, use his ability, and then play traumatize. Since Mirko Vosk was added, I was able to replace Mind Funeral with him.

Again, I'm sacrificing theme here for deck capability, so we'll see how it turns out. This deck has had a much better win/loss ratio as of late, so it appears to be improving with these updates.
