just be honest, you want a monopoly on exile effects and that's why karn irks you XD

"And...you wish I'd take out Ashen Rider . Dream on buddy." My thoughts exactly xD. And in the occurrence of a board wipe if Teysa is on the field, she does see all the black creatures go and will put in 1/1 white flying Spirits that don't get destroyed. Now, if you sacrifice Teysa to her ability she sees the other two creatures go but not herself, and even if she did she isn't going to the graveyard (aka "dies") unless you choose it that way. People don't get that if you choose to put your commander in the command zone, then they don't activate any die effects. It's a replacement effect.

squadcar, there is a loooong history between this deck and Ramp, Ruse, Repeat. in all the games i have played with him, the single nastiest card is probably ashen rider. i have gotten to the point of targeting that over teysa.

I need to keep reminding myself that the 1/1 spirits come into play when black creatures are out and a board wipe hits. Good to know that it was a legitimate call on that particular rule. Damn MTG and their intricate rules and complex ability triggers. Atsuma you're just mad that you can't recycle things that get exiled. Are you trying to tell me Ashen Rider is worse than my discard deck Burn in Hellfire?

tbh i think it is. once i get my ramp straightened out i think i can deal with discard by simply ramping hard into aggro. the classic red situation of nothing to discard cause it's all on the field. ashen rider is just such a versatile recursive exile trigger. and it procs both of teysas abilities to boot.

Now if only they'd make another creature like Ashen Rider ...

they have Archon of Justice but that only triggers when it dies. if they ever made another ashen rider i think i would cry a little.

Discard shouldn't only punish you for having to discard but also not having any cards in your hand. Sorry to have to pull this up but discard should tun things like Hollowborn Barghest , Shrieking Affliction , Lavaborn Muse , Hellfire Mongrel , Quest for the Nihil Stone , etc.
May 7, 2014 5:47 p.m.
the main issue i have with discard isn't the pain from cards like that, it is the debilitating effect that it has on a toolkit deck that relies on holding onto all the different 1 ofs to play them at the PERFECT time to counter my opponents plan. His other deck just kills me with creature damage, but i have no hand to deal with what's on the table. look at Ramp, Ruse, Repeat and you will see the issue.

Just picked up a Quest for the Nihil Stone , and I'm looking to start branching into the others. Not sure how many will make it worth my while since there are a few different concepts going on in that deck. I have a bunch of library search removal like Bitter Ordeal etc, and then some creatures like Order of Yawgmoth plus some large ones that benefit from Rakdos, Lord of Riots 's ability. I'm tempted to go the route of graveyard casting with something like Beacon of Unrest and the like since there will be a lot to pull from in an opponents graveyard. That or focus more on graveyard exile.

i'd say go with the grave hate, you already have this as a superb reanimator.

That's always the danger of having multiple decks. Trying to keep on the right path for each one.

Actually thinking about picking up a Pull from Eternity for this deck too. Just in case someone exiles my...ahem...Ashen Rider ...I can still bring it back.

Didn't think I'd get as much use out of it with so many larger creatures. Unless I used it primarily to recur Karmic Guide to bring other creatures back into play.
May 14, 2014 5:21 a.m.
You still have plentiful targets to choose from besides Karmic Guide . It also creates a infinite combo with Teysa, Orzhov Scion , Karmic Guide and herself in which you sacrifice all three to Teysa. Reveillark revives Teysa and Karmic Guide, in which Karmic Guide revives Reveillark.
May 14, 2014 7:32 a.m.
I think people underestimate how good Karmic Guide is on its own due to how often they see it abused with Reveillark . it's a res spell for 5 that he can target with a res like Reanimate for a smaller hit and then drag something huge. In the event he needs to block a big beefy black creature, potentially with flying, like a demon he has the option to pay echo and laugh as they try to kill it. pro-black means pro-kill spell after all. Reveillark would be decent for grabbing necromancers and solemn as well as the combo, but i think that those are only 5 use cases in a deck of 99. why run 2 cards to try and combo to res something when you will likely have to take out a card that just revives it to do so.
May 14, 2014 12:46 p.m.
Also, i think you can safely add the control and battlecruiser tags to this deck.

And I'll take out Tower of the Magistrate if you get rid of Karn Liberated
