The reason I mentioned the whip: you have flicker effects (Cloudshift , Ghostway ), so your creatures can stay around.

Unfortunately the whip states that if it leaves the battlefield for any reason it gets exiled...You mentioned foils before. You don't happen to have a Teysa, or Ashen Rider do you?

The whip sets up an exile effect, but it only cares if the creature is exiled. If you bring back, say Ashen Rider , with the whip, then flicker him, via Cloudshift , the whip sees him exiled and is like: ok, I am satisfied. Cloudshift will being him back as a new creature and the whip does not care about that (as it is a new object). As far as those, I do not have extra foils.

So only if it gets exiled with flicker, then it can't get exiled a second time with the whip...
June 24, 2014 4:53 p.m.
actually it just replaces the flicker exile with a whip exile but still leaves then comes back into play effect since the replacement effect is only on the part of the ability that makes it leave play, at least that's how i understood it.

Now I wonder if I could cast Ghostway in response to False Prophet 's ability trigger when it hits the graveyard to bounce all my creatures rather than have them get exiled permanently.
June 24, 2014 6:12 p.m.
unfortunately no, whip is a replacement effect that modifies an ability on the stack from outside the stack, blink would resolve fully and then move on down the stack to the exile trigger.

I believe you could cast Ghostway in response to whatever killed False Prophet resolving. then it would end up on the stack just after (before) the trigger for False Prophet
June 24, 2014 7:10 p.m.
yes, Ghostway would allow you to save all your creatures since stack resolves in reverse order, so False Prophet mass exile goes on stack, then Ghostway above it, stack resolves Ghostway first, blinks, then resolves False Prophet to exile, never seeing the Ghostway ed creatures and letting them return EoT.

And False Prophet would be in the graveyard because it's already out of play. Interesting...damn this stacking order and it's complications.

Grabbed an Orzhov Pontiff and looking to see what kind of use I can get out of it with those token decks.

So far Orzhov Pontiff works amazingly well against token generators. Added bonus for using it a second time with the haunt ability. Angel of Despair gets the cut again, and swapped out Exhume with Debt to the Deathless since there isn't any way to deal direct damage to an opponent, and that's gotten me in trouble a bit. Picked up a Kokusho, the Evening Star and trying to figure out what to cut out. Maybe Mimic Vat ...seems to get destroyed immediately anyway.
July 9, 2014 5:50 a.m.
i'd say drop Debt to the Deathless for Kokusho, the Evening Star . the effect is very similar and as a creature kokusho can be more easily used AND utilized without soaking up all your mana to be effective. Mimic Vat is always destroyed because it is such a big threat, which shows it is doing its job.

I'm going with both for now. In all the games I've played, mimic vat hasn't served me at all. I would take out Debt to the Deathless for a Vampiric Tutor or Karn Liberated though. Maybe even a Wrath of God when I get my hands on one.
July 10, 2014 3:53 a.m.
i just know that i seem to get decent use of mimic vat and i don't even have that many ETBs or a deck built around using them. though Nim Deathmantle is definitely the better card in your deck. it just seems like when it works it works amazing and when it doesn't it was a waste, so i know the feeling.

True that. It's always the toss up with these cards. Every time I want to ditch Wall of Omens I have a game where I get to bounce it a ton with Conjurer's Closet and draw a bunch of cards. Then I realize how nice it is to have. This deck is getting to the point where it's going to take something incredible for me to take something out. Still looking for a Karn Liberated though.

I'm wondering which is better True Believer or Aegis of the Gods ? Same goes for Devout Witness or Necromancer's Stockpile .
July 24, 2014 1:17 a.m.
i'd say Devout Witness vs Necromancer's Stockpile is a question of what is the intent, if just need something that discards cards i'd say look into madness deck triggers such as Grimoire of the Dead as well, but Devout Witness serves a good role as Disenchant on a stick, which will always have a good target in edh. Aegis of the Gods is good if you think WW would be hard or you need to target yourself for something in your deck, otherwise i'd say run true believer since it can't get offed by enchantment removal in addition to the already popular creature removal.

Decided to go with Necromancer's Stockpile since the deck doesn't have much draw power, and I can activate the ability as soon as it comes into play. Whereas Devout Witness needs a whole turn to be useful. Sure I lose the artifact/enchantment destruction, but lets be real here...Ashen Rider is a bit superior to that. You're right about the True Believer though. It is better to have something that won't die to a Staff of Nin . I'd originally run Grimoire of the Dead and I never got to the third counter, which is where Nim Deathmantle came into play.
July 25, 2014 6:04 a.m.
what about Thought Gorger as a hand reset? also Mask of Memory and Jalum Tome could be good if you want the freedom to discard any card, not just creatures. stockpile is very good for discarding creatures though with it's multiple uses per turn and gain of 2/2 blockers/walker killers. plus they turn into 1/1 spirits!
July 25, 2014 4:55 p.m.
also what about Endless Obedience , Spirit Bonds , and Perilous Vault from the new set?
July 25, 2014 5:22 p.m.
freezerboy says... #23
Well let's not get too crazy here. I usually want to drop a few things out of my hand...hardly ever the whole thing. I'm only discarding creatures though, and the fact I don't have to tap Necromancer's Stockpile is what I like about it, but I do think Endless Obedience can find a place in here. I almost grabbed a Perilous Vault last night, but the person I was trading had already promised it to someone else, sadly. Still on the hunt for that damn Karn Liberated though.
July 25, 2014 6:22 p.m.
with the way your deck works i think thought gorger would be a way to dump alot of cards very quickly, it could be really useful i think, but somewhat of a weird use case. it draws the cards back so if you can play and sack it in one turn somehow, or blink it it could be very good. plus it is immune to getting killed upon entering to make you lose your hand due to trigger stacking from the wording of the first ability.
July 25, 2014 6:57 p.m.
freezerboy says... #25
Yeah I get that, it's just a bit too specific for use. I want to dump creatures into my graveyard, not everything else. If there was a way to put as many counters on it that I want, and that corresponded to the +1/+1 counters, then it would work great.
freezerboy says... #1
Yeah and of course I traded one to Mike not too long ago. That would definitely help gets some more use out of those resurrection spells. May have to see about getting another one. phantomsts, Atsuma is right though...I had thought about putting Whip of Erebos in, but the exile part of it is not so good for the deck. One card that I have looked into getting is Strands of Night , though the land sacrifice seems a bit steep. Might be good late game though.
