Wow...that's almost unfair. I'll look into that one. I've got quite a bit of bouncing etc in the deck so I haven't (so far) had much issue with the counters from Mikaeus. It's going in the maybeboard just in case though. Man that's that good deal for just 1 black.

Yea man would be crazy unfair but isn't that what decks are made to be in competitive haha? Constant recursion and saccing to bring back stuff with Mikaeus is just cruel. It works really well with Vish Kal it's like practically free board wipe if you have enough counters for 1 black.

Just food for thought, and really think about this: "bad things always come in threes" "third time's the charm".

Yes well...calling this the Army of Darkness wouldn't really fit the theme now would it?

I want to add in a few cards in the maybeboard, but I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out what to take out. Most likely going to put in Kor Cartographer for the Pilgrim's Eye, but other than that I'm a bit stuck...

yes, yes, remove your colorless flying blocker, let me get through with swords of death and protection...

Sigh...

and now you see the issue with a well tooled deck, where every card is there because of a specific and valid reason. if anything i'd say run Eternal Dragon over Pilgrim's Eye. the dragon can be tutored out with a graveyard tutor like Buried Alive, is white so the swords that are pro vs it are not either of the powerhouses Sword of Feast and Famine or Sword of Fire and Ice, has recursion built in, can be sacrificed to Teysa, Orzhov Scion, and the stuff that has protection from white innately built in are usually black cards that are smaller creatures which the black aspect of your deck will likely be able to deal with. they don't seem to have the tendency to put protection from white on big fliers like demons in the way they do with pro-black on angels.

Eternal Dragon was my other choice, but it doesn't give you land advantage like Kor Cartographer does. I've realized from playing my red/white deck that getting a bunch of land in your hand is nice, but having it come into play is much better. It does suck to lose a colorless flyer though...so I'm thinking of cutting something else instead. The deck could always do with a little more mana ramp. I'm almost tempted to ditch the Mikaeus, the Unhallowed since it's just doing the same thing that 20 other cards do in the deck.

for the most part i agree with you on ramp vs land drop guarantee, but in EDH, with the duration the games tend to be, i think colorless plains cycling will act as mana fixing and guarantee a land drop you would have missed, or allow you to hit a double color spell at a timing you would have missed. I guess what i'm saying is that best case scenario i tend to have a land drop till turn 4-5 maybe? but eternal dragon would start to come online as a thing that can help you gain mana and deck thin if you are doing nothing but top decking or just have more mana than you need since everything else is interactions you have in play.

I think you should make a budget version of this deck cause its one of my favorite decks. But its crazy exspensive. Once you make it, add a link to it in the discription.

Most of the expense comes from the land base, and the foiled cards. If you swapped out the Yawgmoth's Will, Demonic Tutor and ditched the planeswalkers for more utility cards then it would be a lot more reasonable.

I took all the foils away and took out any really exspensive cards without ruining the functionof the dexk and added some of the maybe board cards to make a budget version of the deck here it is The Evil Dead II copy budget version

I also found that Sunblast Angel could be good in this build

I'd like to stick with the exile theme, and Sunblast Angel is too specific for this deck. For the attacking creatures I added in the Vengeful Dreams which works pretty well against everything aside from a horde of attacking creatures. Plus it has the added bonus of letting me drop creatures into my graveyard as well as exiling. Atsuma used the angel in his sphinx deck, and it worked pretty well, but he was usually left holding onto it for quite a while before it got used.

On a side note, removed Angel of Serenity and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed since they're a bit too slow and need too many specific conditions to be useful. Added in the Staff of Nin, which will help with the card draw that I was looking for, and the Kor Cartographer which has dual purpose of being a sac outlet for Teysa, and getting me some land which is always useful.

to clarify i was using Angel of the Dire Hour, not Sunblast Angel. i wish the Angel of the Dire Hour lacked the "from hand" clause, if it did it would be significantly better.

February 4, 2015 12:44 p.m.

griffstick says... #17

Angel of the Dire Hour cost 7 mana to cast making it really dificult to flash cast. Im saying sunblast angel would be good cause you have things like Cloudshift Ghostaway and Conjurer's Closet and with the many ways of bringing creatures back from the dead as well. I just look at Sunblast Angel as a reusable sub-par board wipe, or just the threat of it being in the graveyard may keep people from attacking you or attacking in general.

freezerboy says... #18

Good point...I have acquired a few instant speed recursion spells that would make it useful during and opponent's attack phase. I'll have to think about that one...

February 4, 2015 2:04 p.m.

Atsuma says... #19

oh, i completely agree on the impracticality of Angel of the Dire Hour. i think it only works if you will be flashing everything in anyway with Vedalken Orrery, or you drastically reduce the cost with Herald of War or something.

the thing with expensive attack punishing creatures like that is i think they work best as a deterrent. Also, since your opponents could flicker your own Sunblast Angel to make it blow up in your face the meta likely factors in...

("since your opponents could flicker your own Sunblast Angel to make it blow up in your face the meta likely factors in...")

Good point. You know i didnt even think that someone else might have a Flicker or a Reanimate in there deck as well. Im not sure why that thought never came to me... but the same can almost be said for False Prophet. So i guess it all really depends on who the people you play with play like and what cards there likely to use, and only you whould know that.

February 5, 2015 12:05 a.m.

Atsuma says... #21

from what i have seen of people using False Prophet, usually it only gets reanimated when there is an oppressive board state to hold off or if they plan to immediately sac it, and then it either acts as a deterrent or is immediately gone. Sunblast Angel is curious in how it doesn't naturally act as a deterrent and awkwardly sticks around after it has done its thing, though i suppose with Teysa, Orzhov Scion you could sac it and exile a creature to smack them for their insolence if they tried anything funny.

February 5, 2015 12:23 a.m.

freezerboy says... #22

All of those statements are true, and Sunblast Angel does stick around awkwardly after it's use. The only thing I've found as a real deterrent is to have False Prophet in play with a High Market or other sac outlet. It makes people think twice about attacking you, and even if they don't you're free to exile all their creatures whenever you want.

Now if Sunblast Angel said "opponents creatures", then I'd be more likely to consider it.

Personally I would rather not play a deck that's two and a half thousand dollars. It would be rather expensive to make.

February 23, 2015 1:59 p.m.

There are really only a few cards (aside from foils) that make it expensive. griffstick made a budget version of the deck The Evil Dead II copy budget version
