Alrighty, so let's face the fact: This is yet another Ral, Storm Conduit Spellslinger deck that uses Storm as a major win condition.
WAIT! WHOA, HOLD UP THERE!
Before you hit that Back button, what if I outright told you it's not your average Oathbreaker Ral Cheese Deck? Take a look. There's no Reverberate, there's no Twin Cast nor Fork. There's none of that cheesy "I'm going to copy my spell copy so I can copy a spell copy" crap in this deck.
This deck is Ral, but he's the STORM CONDUIT, and what better to work with that than to have him standing in...
THE EYE OF THE THOUSAND YEAR STORM?
Eye of the StormThousand-Year Storm
This combination can have some pretty disgusting results, as the two interact with each other and Ral's static ability. Hell, Ral doesn't need to be crazy enough to sit in the storm for this deck to function, but his static can definitely pull it together.
This can get complex fast, but effectively you can start creating multiples of very few spells in a rapid succession, ramping up that storm count for your Grape Shot, or just burn out with gutter snipe and/or Firebrand Archer. The "Eye of the Thousand Year Storm" truly becomes volatile. It doesn't take much to get a large amount of damage with a few spells, if you can keep both on the table that is!
So, let's say you have them both out with Ral at the start of a turn:
Cast Lightning Bolt. Ral, EotS and TYS trigger. Put EotS on the stack, then TYS, then Ral. Ral deals 1 damage. TYS triggers next. Get no spell copy, but EotS exiles Lightning Bolt, then casts a copy. Ral deals 1 damage. TYS sees a spell being cast (doesn't matter that it's a copy, the fact the copy is cast is what is important). And, considering you cast 1 spell before it, you get a single copy of Lightning bolt. Ral Deals 1 damage and both lightning bolts resolve.
Total damage thus far: 9 (3 from Ral, 6 from Lightning Bolt). Storm is 2.
Now, cast anything that is super cheap, let's say Lightning Strike. Again, Ral, EotS & TYS trigger. put them in the same order again. Ral deals 1 damage, then TYS creates 2 copies. Ral deals 2 more damage then both copies resolve for 6 damage (Storm is now 3). EotS triggers, exiles LS and you cast both Lightning Bolt & Lightning Strike (Storm =4) . Ral deals 2 damage. TYS triggers for both creating 3 copies of one and 4 copies of the other. Ral deals 7 damage and you have a total of 4 copies of say Lightning Bolt on the stack and 5 copies of Lightning Strike (EotS casted copies & TYS copies).
Total damage just by this is (12 from Ral, 12 from lightning strike, 21 from lightning bolt). 45 damage plus the initial 9 = potentially 2 opponents dead and another nearly dead in just two spells with this combo in play.
I believe I calculated that properly, hahaha.
Of course, the deck doesn't rely on this specific combo. You can ramp up that Storm count by using Baral, Chief of Compliance to make your instants and sorceries cheap cheap, then cast various instants and sorceries that let you draw more cards to cast more spells, triggering things like gutter snipe and Firebrand Archer, not to mention getting that Storm count ramped up for Grape Shot.
Don't like what you see on the table? Burn it all away with Lightning Bolts blasted by the dozen from your Eye of the Thousand Year Storm.
This deck is relatively cheap to build. You could easily remove things like Dream Halls, Strip Mine, or any of the rare lands you don't have easy access to acquire and that shaves about 1/2 the cost of the deck off. Talk about budget & casual friendly!
Any suggestions on cards to smooth out gameplay are always considered and appreciated!
