I agree that Somberwald Sage isn't the right choice for this deck, and I also agree that, unless you have an Ivy Lane Denizen (which underperforms for this deck), Gyre Sage also underperforms for this deck. Any suggestions?

I would personally add a black mana source. Woodland Cemetery would be a good choice. It allows Deathrite Shaman to be used to his full potential and still can provide green mana. You can never have to little graveyard hate in standard.

Deathrite Shaman is very well placed against Junk Reanamator (at least in theory) right now. Therefore, playing 4 Woodland Cemetery seems to be a good idea.

going with that theory might as well add the Overgrown Tomb s as well

Deathrite Shaman is extremely good in modern, mainly due fetchlands

i have played it for the past 3 month every week in my deck, and TBH he's not that good in standard.

if i need something against reanimator, i'll take Tormod's Crypt anyday

In my version of this deck, One-Land Ramp, I play Avacyn's Pilgrim over Deathrite Shaman because Deathrite Shaman is only a 1/2 for 1. I was considering playing it to deal with Reanamator but that isn't the right choice, as zandadoum says. Where should I put Tormod's Crypt in my sideboard?

Kind of reminds me of my deck: Defenders. The Akroma's Memorial in here is wonderful. And the fact you can play all of this really quickly is awesome

Have you thought about taking out the Ooze Flux and two of the Ivy Lane Denizen for Chromatic Lantern to make use of Deathrite Shaman black mana ability

I know Somberwald Sage is not an elf. I still like him better than Gyre Sage . I play standard with an edited version of this deck and i have to say Gyre Sage tends to be one of the most useless cards in the deck. For now, I will use Somberwald Sage until M14. I also would not add Overgrown Tomb , as that would slow down the mana early game.

Somberwald sage is actually a she=D and I am only stating this because it is my favourite card by my favourite artist

I think the goal is to cast Primal Surge . Anything that doesn't contribute to that and isn't a finisher doesn't belong here.

You could make an Elfrazi (elfs and eldrazi) deck out of this one. You could change Elvish Visionary or Deathrite Shaman with Emrakul, the Aeons Torn . You dont need to but it would make an awesome deck (im not saying this one isnt because it is, its just the first thing i thought about).

Maybe you should consider having 3 Primal Surge in the deck - or at least 1 in the side, Works well with Omen Machine , you can't lose for not having any cards in your library! That way you have a big chance of getting Primal Surge in your hand - and you can get all your cards onto the battlefield without losing from draw-problems.OOPS! Forgot about the standard-thing :/ nvm then!

Now then keilahmartin - the 1 other Primal surge will be exiled, never to come back in play, that's why we want more of those.

And please, I am not trying to be holy or anything, but deckmonster99 - try out the comment tutorial! It seem as if you're forgetting the concept of constructive critisism!

rewer correct me if I'm wrong. But I don't think Primal Surge and Primeval Bounty synergize. The permanents you keep milling with Primal Surge doesn't trigger Primeval Bounty ability, as they as put into the battlefield, not casted. So the permanents isn't cast, they are simple put there. You only cast something when paying it's CMC, or you play a card which state you may throw it down without playing it's CMC. On the other hand, the permanents you put out on the battlefield with Primal Surge can't be countered, as they don't go on the stack.

I hope I'm wrong because that would make this deck even more powerful, but I really think this is the way it would go down.

I've done some research, and it turns out I was right, unfortunately. Primeval Bounty is more or less useless in this deck I'm afraid. Only think you can use it for, is the life gain from dropping in land permanents with Primal Surge - I like the deck so much that I copied your deck, and made my own tweaks to make it synergize better. Feel free to take a look on the changes I've made :-)

Innistrad, M13, and Avacyn Restored are not legal series anymore - maybe change format to extended? Or maybe rework it ;)

Great deck +1 From Me

It would be awesome if you would check out my elf deck Mono Green Elf Deck and see if you could give me any suggestions.

I love this deck, too bad I just rolled into magic a few months ago, I'd have loved to play this in standard.

But,, siriously, has nobody suggested Archetype of Endurance yet? With your deck, it's possible to play it as early as turn 4. Now start laughing at Esper with their Supreme Verdict .
