Thanks for your comment! card:Kiku's Shadow is my go to card for this deck because I hate when people Mind Control my obliterator's and like teaching them to not do that ;)

Modern is a combo/aggro format. You're going to need Trinisphere , Hypnotic Specter and Damnation . Black Sun's Zenith won't work because a lot of decks play Melira, Sylvok Outcast . Plague Sliver is bad for you because there are a lot of red decks in the format. Sword of Fire and Ice is better for Modern because you get to a draw a card with combat damage and deal an extra 2.
Ideally, in Modern, you want to either win by turn five or stop your opponent by winning on turn 5. Chalice of the Void is a good answer for decks that use a lot of one drops like Goblin Guide and Vexing Devil .

hooray! I have 4 Hypnotic Specter and Trinisphere already so so that is good news for me :)
Damnation ehh..... Would Sadistic Sacrament sufice? I can remove their outcasts from their deck for them
October 20, 2012 2:55 p.m.
and yes I agree. Chalice of the Void is a must for this deck. Sideboard or main?
October 20, 2012 2:56 p.m.
Sacrament isn't as good. You want to be able to get rid of all of their creatures through some way or other. Damnation is the best option. Mutilate would be the next choice I think, though it's not perfect.
October 20, 2012 2:56 p.m.
Mutilate makes alot more sense to me, as powerful as Damnation is, I still want to keep my creatures alive.
Thank you so much!

It's more in how you play it. Let them put a bunch of creatures in play. Keep yours in your hand. Then blow them up.

but..... I have a boatload of spot removal for a reason.

I think you'll find that Vault Skirge will be an all-star especially when equipped with a Lashwrithe .
I think you may want to go with more playsets of the better creatures. I'd drop 2x Plague Sliver for 2x Vault Skirge just because things like that rarely do what you want them to do.
Nightmare Lash is another version of Lashwrithe you may want to consider.

What IS the one Phyrexian Crusader doing in here? Is her there just to beat persist, perchance? I'm not familiar with the format, so feel free to correct me on his usage, but having a random infect one-drop is just rather odd by ordinary standards.
Does Sword of Body and Mind work okay for you? The 2/2 Wolf is nice, but the 10 cards worth of mill isn't going to win you the game and the protection from blue and green are the last colours you often need a creature protected from. Maybe Sword of Fire and Ice would be more appropriate with the card advantage, or Sword of Feast and Famine letting you have your instant death spells ready.

I only have one Phyrexian Crusader it's just a good card I suppose, feel free to suggest something more useful for 3 mana.
I like my swords in this deck, I have Sword of Feast and Famine but don't really think it's needed. I like having the possibility of a triple kill :)

I really like Mutilate more. If a creature has a Lashwrithe on it it will simply revert to as if it wasn't equipped.

Know Thoughtseize is probably too pricey but what are your thoughts on Inquisition of Kozilek ?

I think you missed the point. I wasn't criticising Phyrexian Crusader as an infect creature. The question was more about "Why have a random infect creature in a non-infect at all?"
That one creature is the only card in your deck dealing poison counters, meaning it is effectively putting you no further to winning by life loss (from all your other creatures) everytime you swing with it. Imagine if you had no board position, your opponent is at three life...and then you draw Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon . You'll need three swings to kill the opponent! It might as well just be a defender.
It's normally better to have all infect or all non-infect. Why not just put in that foil Midnight Banshee ?
November 4, 2012 8:50 a.m.
@emrakool I will put my 1 copy of Inquisition of Kozilek do you think Despise deserves a spot?
@pookypuppy I disagree, the blight dragon is an amazing blocker and attacker regardless if he's the only infect creature, Midnight Banshee would probably be better in the sideboard or something. I want to keep the mana cost relatively low in this deck.
ALSO any thoughts on Temporal Extortion in this deck?
November 4, 2012 11:14 a.m.
I think your deck should have little enough problems with creatures or planeswalkers that even make it to the battlefield to run Despise . Plus your current discard spells can be used to make someone dump planeswalkers.
As for Temporal Extortion I feel like it'd be a fun sideboard card against control or combo decks. I thought about trying it with my mono black Modern deck and eventually decided to leave it out.

I'd defiantly throw Sheoldred, Whispering One in the deck, makes her a target they have to waste spells on and if she stays consider the board yours.
November 5, 2012 11:33 p.m.
I agree! I had her in before and she tore people apart. Any suggestions on what to take out for her/it?

card:Black Sun's Zenith and Mutilate are the same card, but Zenith is reusable, and you have plenty of creature killers. -3 Mutilate , +1 Sheoldred, Whispering One , +2 Tragic Slip (mainboard).
And 4 Lashwrithe s is 1 too many, he is seriously your wincon on a lifelinker. Take one our for a 1-drop. And honestly, that's what you're mission. Get in some Diregraf Ghoul s or something.
First, before you do the 1 drop creatures, see how this plays out.
Definitely don't need the Mutilate , and only 3 Lashwrithe s

BSZ is not the same. BSZ is permanent where Mutilate is not. (Counters/till end of turn.)
Chances are an opponent's creature will NOT survive where yours will if it has a Lashwrithe . (Basically they null each other out.)
November 5, 2012 11:50 p.m.
@mclair_bear what Ohthenoises said. Thank you so much for the insight though!
As far as taking out my 4th Lashwrithe I don't know how I feel about that, they're always so useful when I draw them and equipped to any of my creatures besides Drana make it basically GG.
Any thoughts on the sideboard?
I'm thinking Contaminated Ground deserves a couple spots for dealing with crazy lands that deal damage

Love mono black decks! I suggest some Lashwrithe s. They are BOMBS in mono black. As far as removal, you look fine, but I'd personally replace card:Kiku's Shadow with card:Geth's Verdict or Tragic Slip .
And if you get to the point where the games are realllly fast, throw in Vault Skirge . He's a good first turner.
