who the fuck is bob? If it's Dark Confidant than hell no. The arena should probably be cut though

Yes Dark Confidant . It would give this deck much needed card advantage on a pair of legs.

I am not a fan of that card and only have 1 copy of it

I do want me some bobs. Ok I understand.

Did you consider Crypt Ghast ?

Geoxis says... #6

It's not a bad card, please justify your suggestion

March 27, 2013 7:13 p.m.

GamerSonX says... #7

what's to justify? read the card haha, he is a must for mono black decks. cutting your mana costs in half quicker than Liliana, then the left over mana if you got, use his extort...

I consider your attempt at justification fair.

What Crypt Ghast cannot do is boost my life linkers for huge amounts or help me draw less swamps for my one draw a turn.

Don't really have much over 4 in this deck anyway, if I was trying to speed out Griselbrand or an eldrazi I could understand but I hardly use lily for anything besides her boost/kill ability

+1 for being a Hollow fan. Oh hey, there's a deck here too.
How well has Contaminated Ground been working out for you?

March 27, 2013 9:38 p.m.

Geoxis says... #10

I've yet to try my change of putting Contaminated Ground out in an actual game (hoping to get a chance tmrw)

Haven't played in a tournament since before RTR and GTC came out, but I was thinking the ridiculous mana decks would find it quite the roadblock.

+1 for you being a hollow fan, actually just discovered them last week

That they should, in theory. Best case scenario, toss it on an Urza-land as an envious Spellskite uselessly watches on; Medium case scenario, toss it on a dual and dent their tempo; Worse case scenario, toss it on a Swamp and enjoy the consolation life-loss ability. Extra points if a second-main casting manages to take out a Kird Ape .

Good luck tomorrow! Quite interested in seeing how well it fares.

I appreciated your comment of laying out those scenarios, that's a great way to help someone.

We shall see!

I play at a VERY cutthroat game store

GureiSeion says... #13

Very welcome, and glad to have done some good. As a regular home-brewer at a shop that's (probably) the second biggest in my half of the state, I can empathize the cutthroat pains. Biggest thing to always keep in mind is the competition in your meta.

Suppose I'll toss out a few more questions your way. What went out for the Contaminated Ground ? Have the Lashwrithe proven themselves worthy staying a playset? What's your (so far) average Profane Command look like?
And lastly, a few towards general sideboarding strategy: Swords, Spellskite , Mutilate , and Nihil Spellbomb are generic enough, but has two SB slots been the right number for graveyard hate these days? (Especially since Eggs probably wasn't a thing last time you tourney'd.) Major props for Sadistic Sacrament , one of my personal guilty pleasures. Is it aimed at anything in specific, or just an attempt to preempt Slaughter Games in a post RTR setting? Wurmcoils look like you've got them there for a big reason, though I'm not sure what late-game threat they and Dread are aimed at. Are they both relevant as SB cards, considering their cmc costs and effort/frequency to board in?

GamerSonX says... #14

I suppose Crypt Ghast would only be effective if you had more X cost cards besides Profane Command

honestly I would use Mutilate over Contaminated Ground . Your creatures won't even die through mutilate if you have a Lashwrithe or Batterskull equipped. Maybe its just me, but all the times I have ever used Contaminated Ground , it has never been worth it, maybe you could sideboard it against tron and shaky manabases instead of mainboarding it?

Contaminated Ground was put in the sideboard for mainboard Spellskite

got first place at that event months ago and haven't played since.

I love Contaminated Ground to bits, but 4's just not enough; I wouldn't ever consider playing it without a full set of Evil Presence in complement. You can sideboard the 8 cards in or out; it's usually a good bet for the first round in a match... Try it, see how it works out for you :)

I'm doing alot of testing lately and will try that out!

I may just be bad at magic but that strategy actually seems somewhat viable against decks that are very color dependent

I saw your deck awhile ago and it influenced my decks quite a bit. I had put this one together: Curtain of Darkness and it was kicking ass until I ran into some of the top tier decks (Melira Pod, Tron).

Then I added Bobs and now it looks like this: Black Bob. I'm feeling really good with this current list (p.s. try Disciple of Bolas with your Lashwrithe . I think you'll like it). Dimir House Guard can transmute on turn 3 for Damnation, Mutilate, Lashwrithe, Disciple of Bolas, Consuming Vapors.
