Curiosity , Ophidian Eye , and Tandem Lookout go infinite with Niv.

Ophidian Eye , Curiosity I could use. I kind of reject Tandem Lookout merely because it is not a "may" ability. When you play against people with all sorts of responses, that may can mean life or death. Especially if they simply negate the damage you do, all the while forcing you to deck yourself.

The only reason I do not personally run Curiosity is for my own casual purposes, where I tend to be involved in games with 3-4 players. I'd personally rather have Mind Over Matter allowing me to discard an Eldrazi to retain my graveyard-to-library power.

Roan, shut up. I play niv-mizzet EDH, don't ever say that you should play curiosity tandem lookout or ophydian eye, because if you do, good job masturbating instead of playing magic.

anyways, now constructive comments, play otherworld atlas rather than temple bell.card:Blue Sun's Zenith is way too slow, and if you really want to use their deck against them try Desertion . use Hinder for the profit. Consecrated Sphinx is kind of an auto in. Mindmoil created a whole lot of fun, while cycling your answers. Inundate and card:Teferi's Puzzle Box is hilarious, and usually does not hinder your deck in any way. also, my favorite things to put on niv himself: Sigil of Sleep Charisma and Neko-Te I have not updated my niv deck since I changed it to more ping based, but I'll link it at the bottom so you can take a look and see if there is anything you might like.

Good luck, and remember, comboing with niv is stupid easy, try not to be that guy....

Or you could let others play the game the way they want. Comboing with Niv is a solid way to win. It's there as an option and it's a choice that each player makes at his or her discretion.

@AzrielBarakiel If you had actually read the comments to this deck, you would've noticed I never said "that you should play Curiosity , Tandem Lookout or Ophidian Eye " So I don't know what you're smoking to make such rude out of line remarks.

As for your actual "constructive" comments, I disagree with your assessment card:Blue Sun's Zenith, as if I want to be a jerk, I can combo out with infinite mana by turn 3-4 and force someone to draw out their deck +1, forcing an instant loss on their part.

Desertion is a solid counter, and I may consider picking one up however. Charisma is an older and more fun card, if I do decide to opt it in, I believe I will also put in Prodigal Sorcerer for kicks.

You play a 2 card combo where one is always there for you, sure if you want to combo with inf mana and blue sun someone to death, go for it. But the curiosity ophidian eye and tandem lookout combo, honestly that isnt playing magic, that is sitting there wanking in the corner while other people watch. and if that is the route you want to go, go for it.

Again, philosophical difference about how to play the game should not influence the way you communicate with others. Please carry on the discussion in a civil manner.

Nice Niv deck! I like that you went for the emphasis on control, but I'm surprised you didn't put Insurrection in there... seems like it would fit well with your control theme and as an alternate win con... or maybe even just going for Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded 's ult. Check out my Niv deck Wheel of the Firemind if you get a chance. Its more based around Windfall and Wheel of Fortune effects. In fact, In fact, yours may benefit from having a card:Teferi's Puzzle Box in there... with Copy Artifact it could be devastating. (or even Sculpting Steel )

@zandl Ophidian Eye was mentioned before my last update by Epochalyptik. It's just not my personal preference. To an extent, the same applies to Curiosity , but I have yet to actually play it in a game yet. Depending on how it works, I may take it out.

Its just more in my playstyle to be a bit control heavy, but I wouldn't hold it against anyone if they did play more combo-heavy.

I'm thinking about taking Curiosity out of my own deck too, just rarely gets used. The most useful thing I find is that I can force someone to use a counterspell on something that only costs me 1 lol! I never thought about Charisma before... that is hot tech! maybe I'll sub those out instead.

As an aside, with your two "Tims" out there as well I'm suprised not to see Gelectrode as well. He seems to fit with your deck and is better than your current Tims, and if you get a Chrome Mox he's be a nice imprint... just as an after thought.

Cards like Curiosity give you an infinite combo should you choose to use it. You can stop the combo by pinging a creature instead of a player, and you can keep yourself from milling out by dropping a well-timed Elixir of Immortality .

@landgrafb I actually removed Curiosity , as it didn't meet my playstyle, and did very little for the deck. I already do run Elixir of Immortality , as it and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre are the deck's two means of avoiding decking myself out.

Also Curiosity and Ophidian Eye are both worded with "may" on the draw trigger, so you don't even have to ping a creature to stop the combo. You can just refuse to draw the card if you're running the risk of milling yourself.

I like Time Spiral as a means to shuffle graveyards back into the library... gives me the reset, messes with other players' hands and graveyards (like a card:Tormod's Crypt), and the draws can cause more damage. Especially with a Consecrated Sphinx which would be amazing for you since adding those Windfall effects. And no Winds of Change ? it would be awesome if you find yourself with 80 cards in your hand.... just redrawing the whole hand to kill the last remaining players :)

Isn't Time Spiral banned in EDH, though? For good reason?

@zandl, not according to wizards... http://www.wizards.com/magic/tcg/resources.aspx?x=magic/rules/100cardsingleton-commander

Time Spiral isn't banned, however various means of taking additional turns at low mana costs are. i.e. Time Walk and Time Vault .

@CommanderFun Winds of Change WOULD be rather good, even if I just used that instead of Wheel of Fate .

Also any +1s would be appreciated.

@Roan LOL how many more people are gonna suggest Curiosity to you before your next update (not realizing that you took it out)? I'm gonna wager at least 10 more...

Time Spiral is not banned in EDH however Wizards doesn't control the banlist. The actual list is at http://mtgcommander.net/rules.php. Also, the wizards list you posted is incorrect as it is missing a bunch of the cards on the banlist.

September 6, 2012 3:34 p.m.

CommanderFun says... #22

@Ohthenoises: Thats weird... why would wizards not control the banlist? doesn't make sense...

September 6, 2012 9:16 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #23

because they didn't invent the format... lol

Also, as far as the deck goes, Molten Psyche is a reallllly fun card if you can get the metalcraft. Imagine following something like Minds Aglow (I know you don't have it, just using it as an example) with Molten Psyche and rofling.

Ohthenoises says... #25

It would be like wizards taking graft's format: Noble and changing the banlist. They didn't invent the format and they don't do the testing for banlist balancing so they just let others do it for them.
