I suggest you lean towards more self-mill with Mulch and Splinterfright .

Personally, I'm gonna wait for all the cards to be released before I start crafting. I refuse to play the "oh it was my idea first" game. There are thousands of people who use tapped out. Everyone is going to think of everything. So what's the point of placeholders?

I do really like Ghoultree , though. I was thinking of making a sick self-mill zombie deck with Unbreathing Horde and company. I don't see the point of all the weenies here. Ghoultree isn't game changing without trample or some other ability, so it needs to get out early and FAST. Waiting for your opponent to kill your weenies is going to be slow. I'd also hesitate putting 4 in. I think a Zombie theme is going to be the strongest take on the idea, especially with card:Ghoulcaller's Chant, etc.

Also Culling Dais might serve better than Disciple of Griselbrand ?

Have you considered Grim BackwoodsMTG Card: Grim Backwoods? Another sac outlet for you to feed your graveyard with, and lets you get some much needed draw. And perhaps Caravan VigilMTG Card: Caravan Vigil? I wouldn't take out MulchMTG Card: Mulch for it, as I think MulchMTG Card: Mulch is wonderful for your deck strategy, but Caravan VigilMTG Card: Caravan Vigil will help you ramp out some mana pretty quick, especially with things like Typhoid RatsMTG Card: Typhoid Rats and Black CatMTG Card: Black Cat on the field.

I'm going to playtest this in a minute, and actually see how it draws out. I like the theme of it a lot, but I'm worried about the pacing.

Black/Green is a pain to play right now in standard, because of one card. Mirran CrusaderMTG Card: Mirran Crusader. One little sumabitch can just steam roll your deck.

Me and ThePoptart went back and forth about this a bit the other day. My response to Mirran CrusaderMTG Card: Mirran Crusader was Black Sun's ZenithMTG Card: Black Sun's Zenith. His counter to the Zenith was NevermoreMTG Card: Nevermore (which I never see anyone play). And my counter to NevermoreMTG Card: Nevermore was Beast WithinMTG Card: Beast Within. But, anyways, my point is, you might want to build something into the sideboard to help you deal with threats like that, that can just ruin your day.

Grim BackwoodsMTG Card: Grim Backwoods doesn't work in here I tried. Caravan VigilMTG Card: Caravan Vigil I totally spaced. Beast WithinMTG Card: Beast Within not a big fan, rather use BramblecrushMTG Card: Bramblecrush or NaturalizeMTG Card: Naturalize. Mirran CrusaderMTG Card: Mirran Crusader hmmm, didn't think about that, off to brainstorm...

After looking at the deck your goal seems to be to put things in the graveyard and get ghoul tree out correct?

You only have 1 win condition being GhoultreeMTG Card: Ghoultree, who is big, yes but gets chumped all day. You should get rid of the mediocre creatures like Grave BrambleMTG Card: Grave Bramble, Disciple of GriselbrandMTG Card: Disciple of Griselbrand, Black CatMTG Card: Black Cat and add things like SplinterfrightMTG Card: Splinterfright, [[Kessig Cagebreakers], and other cards like this.

How set are you on being in black? If your willing to change blue can dump things into your graveyard far more efficiantly with cards like Armored SkaabMTG Card: Armored Skaab, Thought ScourMTG Card: Thought Scour, Merfolk LooterMTG Card: Merfolk Looter, Forbidden AlchemyMTG Card: Forbidden Alchemy, and so on. Going blue also gives you an alternate win condition using Increasing ConfusionMTG Card: Increasing Confusion Since you have some ramp in your deck it wouldn't be that hard to mill your opponent for 20-30 cards, or you could make it interesting and make an alternate win condition to mill yourself and use Laboratory ManiacMTG Card: Laboratory Maniac. Seems like a lot going on, but the theme here is that putting things into your graveyard is a good thing.

Grave BrambleMTG Card: Grave Bramble is two fold, something to sacrifice for life or to use as protection if my GhoultreeMTG Card: Ghoultree is used against me. Every creature does something for me Disciple of GriselbrandMTG Card: Disciple of Griselbrand is important to the goal of the deck, like any good B/G deck, gain life, overrun them with creatures.

Ambush ViperMTG Card: Ambush Viper is a G RebukeMTG Card: Rebuke.

This is a 'Standard' take on the deck Fangorn's Revenge it's a little trickier than it's predecessor but it get's the job done.

I have been tinkering with replacing Typhoid RatsMTG Card: Typhoid Rats, Black CatMTG Card: Black Cat, & Grave BrambleMTG Card: Grave Bramble though the latter comes in handy against Black, Blue, and Red attempts to use GhoultreeMTG Card: Ghoultree against me.

The ultimate goal of this deck's, Theme is to be solely Innistrad-Block, I'm only using the 2012 Core set, until Avacyn Restored comes out and we get the 2013 Core set, it's all about them.

Lastly, who doesn't love a 'zombie cat' - Black CatMTG Card: Black Cat?

djgunn I said screw it and took out a SwampMTG Card: Swamp & a ForestMTG Card: Forest so I could add 2xGrim BackwoodsMTG Card: Grim Backwoods, just in case.

Nice idea! Have you considered Fume SpitterMTG Card: Fume Spitter as part of your 'quick to die' crew of creatures? Not everyone agrees with me, but I love Fume SpitterMTG Card: Fume Spitter, and it looks like it could find a home here. Even though it can only take out low-toughness guys, there are a couple of those out there that are well worth to snipe. This little critter is probably the ugliest sniper if I ever saw one, but still a (suicide) sniper - and you get further discount to the GhoultreeMTG Card: Ghoultrees to boot... I would probably at least consider: -1 Typhoid RatsMTG Card: Typhoid Rats, -1 Black CatMTG Card: Black Cat, -1 Ambush ViperMTG Card: Ambush Viper, +3 Fume SpitterMTG Card: Fume Spitters. :)

If you were indeed to put in any spitters, it would then also be tempting to recommend Tragic SlipMTG Card: Tragic Slip and/or Hunger of the HowlpackMTG Card: Hunger of the Howlpack, for some sweet, morbid synergy. The problem would be what to take out, I guess... Are the Increasing AmbitionMTG Card: Increasing Ambitions and Diabolic TutorMTG Card: Diabolic Tutor giving you good value? If not, I'd consider freeing up some slots there.

Anyway, +1 :)

errrm where is SplinterfrightMTG Card: Splinterfright, Boneyard WurmMTG Card: Boneyard Wurm, Gnaw to the BoneMTG Card: Gnaw to the Bone, and Spider SpawningMTG Card: Spider Spawning?

SplinterfrightMTG Card: Splinterfright has trample, fills your graveyard and can beat face for 3 mana? you might want a way to stop you decking your self but there's always a way

10+ life for 3 mana is a good deal 20+ is insane but getting flashback aswell.... this will buy you all the turns you need to mill yourself, or spider-ball your opponents. seriously whats cooler than playing a draft deck in constructed?

the only issue is Nihil SpellbombMTG Card: Nihil Spellbomb is a card but on the flip side Grafdigger's CageMTG Card: Grafdigger's Cage dosn't change your game plan a whole bunch.

Lukus I like the idea of Fume SpitterMTG Card: Fume Spitter I might put it in here, I wouldn't take out Black CatMTG Card: Black Cat 'cause that is who I'd use the spitter on. As for taking out Ambush ViperMTG Card: Ambush Viper no way, a Green RebukeMTG Card: Rebuke is too powerful. Though I'm trying to keep this Core-2012, Innistrad-Block, until Core-2013 comes out. Also I have Tragic SlipMTG Card: Tragic Slip in my sideboard 'cause it's rare that I ever need it.

entropy101 SplinterfrightMTG Card: Splinterfright, Boneyard WurmMTG Card: Boneyard Wurm, Gnaw to the BoneMTG Card: Gnaw to the Bone, and Spider SpawningMTG Card: Spider Spawning, are all good cards for this kind of deck, however, the would slow the mechanics down. I could take out Disciple of GriselbrandMTG Card: Disciple of Griselbrand and Grave BrambleMTG Card: Grave Bramble for a couple of your suggestions but that could take away from my game plan of having a turn 3 or 4 GhoultreeMTG Card: Ghoultree and a turn 5 or 6 win. I love Grafdigger's CageMTG Card: Grafdigger's Cage but the only threat I see early in the game from coming out of the graveyard is GravecrawlerMTG Card: Gravecrawler which can't block anyway.

I like it and can see why the SplinterfrightMTG Card: Splinterfright would slow down this deck. GravecrawlerMTG Card: Gravecrawler might be a good fit here though. He'd provide some blocking/sac material, and once GhoultreeMTG Card: Ghoultree's out, he can still be useful.

Agbu, GravecrawlerMTG Card: Gravecrawler can't block, that would make him Broken.

Why not add a LumberknotMTG Card: Lumberknot or two in there?

March 2, 2012 12:13 a.m.

Minousmancer says... #16

Dodge99X two reasons, one it's pricey to cast, two what would I take out? There is no LumberknotMTG Card: Lumberknot for the same reasons I don't have Dungrove ElderMTG Card: Dungrove Elder or Boneyard WurmMTG Card: Boneyard Wurm, there really is no room.

errrm your using DisentombMTG Card: Disentomb over Ghoulcaller's ChantMTG Card: Ghoulcaller's Chant????

i guess you really want that Ambush ViperMTG Card: Ambush Viper back

for real?

maybe try Cemetery ReaperMTG Card: Cemetery Reaper as he can exile your opponents creatures who are in the graveyard (against reanimator decks) i also think (correct me if I'm wrong) that he can keep undying creatures dead for good after they die the first time. my reasoning is that when Strangleroot GeistMTG Card: Strangleroot Geist dies you can exile him as a immediate reaction with Cemetery ReaperMTG Card: Cemetery Reaper whose ability cane used at anytime. plus he also gives you a 2/2 (a 3/3 for as long as he is on the battlefield) and pumps up the goal tree thing. just don't exile your own guys

theonyc and done.

yes you can do that with ripper and it works.

March 4, 2012 6:54 p.m.

Minousmancer says... #25

entropy101 yeah once I reread the card after it was suggested, I was like it better work that way or 'undying' is a broken form of 'regenerate', so I added it.
