Smokestack would be a nice way to whittle down your opponents, also Spawning Pit for some more sac combo

Too slow (for the combo build), not stax (though it can be with some quick changes)
No point with the more efficient token generators, though a good choice for Shirei generally. I am not trying to sacrifice the apostles until there is some reason to do it, as putting them in the graveyard without a plan has no real benefit, especially when everyone at the table begins to realize what is transpiring. I would definitely include it if I were doing the stax build implied by smokestack.

If there was another decent commander, I would go W/B for Immortal Servitude/Maw of the Obzedat/Harsh Sustenance.

Oh Absolutely. If you want a competitive Apostle deck, you want Karador, Ghost Chieftain, Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper, or Sidisi, Brood Tyrant
Deadbridge Chant, Edgewalker ... etc in those colors.

You make me want to get a Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker altered to have Ron Paul as the image. +1

Get more demons =)I got a shadowborn deck to, and trust me U need at least 8+ demons. (I got around 12, cuz I use Karador, Ghost Chieftain who allows me to re-use my shadowborns several times a turn in combinaton with Bloodbond March

WELLLLLL -- You actually don't need more demons. You can always fail to find demons when activating the apostle ability. ;)
Karador is definitely the commander to have the most access to raw recursion -- I hope you also run Remembrance and the great white mass reanimators: Immortal Servitude and Rally the Ancestors
Keep in mind that drawing a demon is just a dead draw for this deck. It works the best when you have 5 and under mana, since this is the range for finding and setting up the thrumming stone combo.

I run all of those, but not the Rally the Ancestors . Its a good card, but a one time deal. My deck is already very power hungry in terms of sacrificing a lot and generating tons of mana with Crypt of Agadeem.
Thing is, that graveyard exiles are among the worst things that can happen to my deck. No graveyard means expensive Karador, less mana, no Bloodbond March triggers etc....
I build my entire deck around the idea that even a board wipe, will mean I get more powerfull in terms of mana/ resources =) <---Feels awesome.
Drawing demons is sort of a dead draw for me to. But I have won games with 0 shadowborn triggers. It mainly involved Shadowborn Demon and letting him die on purpose to serve as a 5 mana removal with karador =). I did get a shtload of Squirrels, zombies, white spirits for my dead shadowborns. (Apparantly they thought it be a good idea to focus on my shadowborns, before I could get a 6 number on the field.....how ignorant they were =P

FOOLS! THE APOSTLES ARE THE WIN CON! MUAHAHAHAHA.
Yeah, that's probably why the shadowborn apostle deck is slightly more resilient than relentless rats -- people tend to believe that removing the apostles is a good idea, and end up wasting resources on a highly expendable card.
I have this deck tagged as aggro, since I have opted to remove / replace almost all of the cards that would normally respond to threats. The main goal is just to overwhelm the field in a single turn with 5 - 6 things that must be dealt with at the same time.

Assembly Hall tutors for an apostle. it's high cost but I'll bring it to your attention.

Interesting, interesting.
I feel like I can't run it for the same reason that I don't run Soul Foundry -- but for a slower deck, I like it a lot. I would probably run it alongside more casual, group friendly cards.

hahaha! A valuable utility card for Scion of the Ur-Dragon, and now you know why. Not the haste, the Shadowborns

I don't think Skullclamp works the way you think it does in this deck. Unless you're using it on a 0/1 creature, it doesn't work with Shirei. Shirei checks power as the creatures die, and since Skullclamp is giving them +1 to their power, they'll be 2/1s and wont revive.
