The Hellbound Deck

Commander / EDH*

LGMR

We have such sights to show you! We are explorers, in the further regions of experience. Demons to some, angels to others. Come, taste our pleasures. But if you cheat us, we will tear your soul apart!

I was looking at the art for the RTR Blood Crypt and it reminded me of the Hellraiser films. I'm a fan of the first two movies and the book, and I thought an EDH deck based around them could be fun. This is a first-draft prototype. I'm sure I'll be adding and deleting some cards very soon. Yore-Tiller Nephilim is my commander of choice for this deck. Yes, I know it's not a Legendary Creature. This is a casual EDH deck, and I've tried to upload an alternate art that says "Legendary Creature" but it's not showing up for some reason. (If anyone knows how to fix it please leave a comment letting me know how. Thanks.)

Now, you may ask why I'm picking Yore-Tiller Nephilim to be my commander, and that's simple: it's the card that most fits the colors, mechanics, and flavor necessary for a Hellraiser-themed deck. Let me explain: Leviathan and the Cenobites from Hellraiser would be empowered by every color of Magic except Green. As green is the color of life, and Leviathan is a god of the dead, not the living. Leviathan is also the god of "hunger, flesh, and desire", so obviously red and black are the first two choices for the deck. Next, the Cenobite represent a religious order. In the comics, Leviathan is a being of "order" and see living flesh as "chaos". So White is an important color to include. Leviathan suppresses the memories of the cenobites, and directly controls Channard's mind, so Blue is imoportant. There are only two creatures with those four colors and Breya, Etherium Shaper's abilities and flavor don't really go with a Hellraiser theme. Plus, Yore-Tiller Nephilim looks like Leviathan, can revive the dead, and is quite fragile himself. (Tiffany defeated Leviathan by solving a puzzle.)

Speaking of puzzles, the Cenobites are summoned by solving a "puzzle box", a puzzle-game that is depicted in the book and both movies as one which the players are either tricked into opening it (Frank, Tiffany), deeply want to open it but are too cowardly to do it (Channard), or they simply don't know what it is. (Kirsty) So, Artifacts that effect everyone also fit the flavor of this deck; ones that cause strange and negative things to happen to your opponents, or that effect everyone equally. I've named a category "Shenanigans" and included what I could think of as a start.
