How big is your play group, and does your meta support a lot of creature removal? I was thinking about the card Sun's Bounty , but that may not fit your current style.

+1 by the way, cause its a cool deck. I like the idea.

If you look at my decks, they often lack protection or removal simply because my playgroup generally plays decent (but definitely not the best) creature-based decks which I simply overpower with my better constructed decks. :P in my playgroup, I am second only to one person. But he plays competitively (with his dad and brother) whereas the rest play casually. And yes, Sun's Bounty would not work very well...

Also, I'm not sure if you +1d or not.... Thanks!!

I did, I will keep looking for more interesting cards. My play group would kill my combo pieces after a while, so I always think about creature removal.

Another interesting card that came to mind is Angelic Accord , but I don't know if you can make this work with that or not.

i want to try to keep the mana cost down. also, Angelic Accord seems a bit underwhelming. its one creature per turn which seems a little slow for the deck

True, its just food for thought. Every time I read an article that pertains to life gain I think about this deck. So I just add what I find.

Yeah. There are tons of lifegain cards out there but I think for this particular build, unless something new comes out, it's pretty much reached where I want it to be.

Seems so for now, we will have to wait till September and see what the new block brings us.

I really like the archangel. I'd like another good card in theros but if there isn't, I won't be disappointed :)

Have you thought about using Path of Bravery ? I doubt you'll ever go under 20 life, and whenever you swing you gain life, so Ajani's Pridemate get's bigger, potentially getting a +1, and it fits your curve. Potentially swinging for 4 on turn 3. It also stacks so you could get 2 +1/+1 counters, when Archangel of Thune is out, and then it just spirals out of control.

tempest says... #13

yeah, i have thought about it but the main thing is that if i swing with 10 creatures, i get 10 life, triggering pridemate once. i'm only getting one instance of gaining life, instead of 10 instances. yeah, even after that it's still good but if i play a sister, then a pridemate, then 2 sisters, the pridemate would still swing for 2. and i have one mana left over so i can rancor the pridemate and swing for 6 with trample so...

thoughts on adding black and +1? =]

Is that enough life gain? Have you considered anything on the lines of War Report ?

July 28, 2013 1:30 a.m.

tempest says... #16

i do get up to 30 pretty quickly but i have thought about war report. however, i just don't think its necessary and it is 4 mana. i don't want my average cmc to be that high

this is modern so instead of running Razorverge Thicket and Sunpetal Grove I would suggest 4 Wooded Bastion and 4 Horizon Canopy

D3fied says... #18

also you should think about some control, right now combat is your only way to take care of your opponents threats, have you thought about maybe running a couple of Path to Exile and if you really want to add an additional color I would go red for 4 Norin the Wary and then you could think about Lightning Helix , also on the white front Ranger of Eos and Martyr of Sands looks like they could have their place in your deck. and if you ask what you should cut for these cards I would think that Cathedral Sanctifier and Chalice of Life  Flip would come to mind first.

well, first, this is casual. wooded bastion is horrible turn 1 which i really rely on. i like horizon canopy but it does ping me every time i use it for mana and i do want to get to 30 as quickly as possible. norin seems really interesting but i really don't want to go three colors any more. :P too much color fixing can be detrimental to an early game for this deck. i'm also not going to add the ranger or the martyr simply because the ranger is too slow and cluncky and the martyr is one time use. sorry for not using your suggestions but i do really appreciate the time you took to comment on this deck. and you did reveal a new possible way to use norin. thanks! +1?

I will always +1 a deck that uses Chalice of Life  Flip .

You could make the deck even faster if you swap out the 4x Cathedral Sanctifier for 4x Martyr of Sands .

Turn 1: Anything that could produce a plains and Martyr of Sands Turn 2: Anything that could produce a plains, sacrifice Martyr of Sands , reveal at least 4 white cards, play Serra Ascendant . You know have a 6/6 flying life link Serra Ascendant on turn 2.

Hope that helps! +1

thanks for the +1! and my response to martyr of sands is now in the updates. :P thanks a lot though!!

D3fied says... #24

I see your update and I understand that you hate the martyr for a one time use, but producing nearly 12-15 life for 1 is amazing, and there is a reason she is used so much in modern... a format that uses the best removal around, she can chump block and generate so much life that you can take masive damage and still never hit 20... that is better then a one time ETB effect that gains you 3

August 14, 2013 11:58 p.m.

tempest says... #25

ahh, but my play group has a ton of removal. it'll be almost impossible for me to pull that off without the martyr getting killed
