This deck is intended for Legacy Tribal Wars; a casual MTGO format in which at least a third of your deck must be creatures that share a single creature type. It uses roughly the same banned list as Legacy and there are no sideboards.
You can find all of my Tribal Wars decks here.I'm on a very tight budget so the cheaper the better; anything above 1 MTGO ticket per card is too much unless it would have a big impact as a singleton in the deck and/or it would be useful in several of my decks. Thanks for checking out my deck and I greatly appreciate suggestions and +1s.
It's the Darkmagic special: Illusions and setting things on fire.
Lord of the Unreal - Protects and buffs all my Illusions, which is especially important for protecting the incredibly fragile "dies if targeted" creatures such as
Phantasmal Bear. He's also has the added benefit of looking like the suavest motherfucker in the multiverse.
Phantasmal Bear - Fragile as a kitten but
1-drops don't get any more aggressive than this.
Jace's Phantasm - Not very powerful and the +4/+4 is basically never going to happen but it's evasive and the deck needs a critical mass of 1-drops, both for curve purposes and to help ensure I can cast
Illusory Angel
.
Krovikan Mist - The reverse Illusion lord; powerful and evasive is exactly what the deck wants.
Phantasmal Image - A ridiculously cheap Clone-effect to efficiently copy the best creature on the field. Especially good for copying Lord of the Unreal as the Image gives itself hexproof, negating its drawback. The deck doesn't want too many copies though; I don't want to end up with a hand of Phantasmal Images and nothing to copy. That being said, the correct number is probably 2 or 3; the real reason I'm only running 1 is that they relatively expensive to buy and I didn't want to spend the money to get more than 1.
Illusory Angel
- A 4/4 flyer for 3 is a fantastic rate, assuming it can actually be cast. Gitaxian Probe, Manamorphose and Rift Bolt allow it to be cast with with only 3 lands and, failing that, Phantasmal Bear, Jace's Phantasm and Lightning Bolt can enable it at 4 mana. It's always a terrible late-game top-deck, however.
Illusionary Servant
- Another aggressively-costed but fragile flyer to round out the Illusion team.
Gitaxian Probe/
Manamorphose - In addition to being
Illusory Angel
enablers, these free spells effectively reduce the size of the deck, making it more consistent. Plus, the information and colour-fixing they provide respectively isn't irrelevant. They do have the downside of reducing the amount of information you have when making mulligan decisions, however.
Lightning Bolt - The original burn spell and still the best; incredibly efficient removal or damage straight to the face.
Rift Bolt - Just as efficient as Lightning Bolt, if slower and clunkier, but the suspend ability also serves to help me cast
Illusory Angel
on curve.
Staggershock - Rebound is another way to fulfil the requirement to cast
Illusory Angel
while stuck on 3 mana and it's a potential 2-for-1 but 3 mana for 4 damage over two turns is pretty expensive and clunky for a burn spell.
