Becoming a pariah... On a budget!
First of all... Infect. Is. Awesome (and trolls VERY hard). I was inspired to make it after seeing Blighted Agent, Glistener Elf and Invigorate and realized that a playset of each is probably one of the most annoying things ever. So I decided to follow through and this is the final product. I've found it to consistently win after an average of 3-4 turns.
The deck is simple:
-- Low cmc creatures like Blighted Agent and Glistener Elf get out quickly and attack to give opponent infect counters.
-- Awesome cards like Invigorate or Mutagenic Growth can be played to seriously boost infect creatures for a low cost, while Artful Dodge and Distortion Strike can make them unblockable. While the last two are both sorceries (which is a bummer), they're still pretty decent because they have "replayability" after initial usage. Even though they make the creature you use it on a big target, at least your opponent might kill it before you waste any instants to buff it up.
-- Rancor... this card will be the cause of many sleepless nights to come for your opponents. It NEVER seems to dissappear after being played, so make sure that whenever you replay it, say something witty like "oh nice I got a rancor!"... and watch as your opponent slowly dies on the inside.
You: "You see... I still can't afford this deck unless I sell my loved ones into slavery. What should I do?"
-- Making this an even cheaper budget deck is relatively easy. Just replace the 4 Breeding Pool with 4 Simic Guildgate.
You: "All my friends play Modern, and there are more competitions for Modern... but this is Legacy."
-- Just take out the 4 Invigorate and replace them accordingly with Titanic Growth, Predator's Strike, or any other similar cards to make this deck modern.
-- NOTE: And if you REALLY want to piss off an opponent, you could even make this a Pauper deck by replacing all tose rares with common cards. Here's what it would look like.
Pauper Deck:
Instant (16)
4x Groundswell,
4x Invigorate, 4x Mutagenic Growth,
4x Vines of Vastwood,
Sorcery (5)
2x Artful Dodge, 3x Distortion Strike,
Creature (16)
4x Blight Mamba, 4x Blighted Agent, 4x Glistener Elf, 4x Ichorclaw Myr,
Land (19)
12x Forest, 5x Island, 4x Simic Guildgate,
Enchantment (4)
4x Rancor,
Sideboard (15)
2x Giant Growth,
4x Mana Leak, 3x Mizzium Skin, 3x Mutagenic Growth, 1x Predator's Strike, 2x Titanic Growth
Word to the wise...
Yes, this deck is frustrating. Yes, infect creatures are unfair in many ways. Yes, this deck is legal. So as long as you don't play it too often, people shouldn't complain XD. In my local magic group, I found myself slowly being isolated as I played this deck, so I try and use this deck sparingly and appropriately..
Currently, this deck is only successful in 1v1 games. It tends to run out of options when playing against multiple opponents, so some updates would have to be made for 2v2 or more.
