Comment Clear-up PREP FOR DRAGONS MAZE —April 30, 2013

Now its time to decide which cards will help my deck, or which cards MIGHT help my deck...

I have a feeling some will look good at first... but will be horrible during play.

Ladies and Gentleman... the score ranking for finishers, in my deck, are as follows:

Ghor-Clan Rampager -- 8.4

Spark Trooper -- 8.2

Archwing Dragon -- 7.9

Rubblebelt Raiders -- 7.4

Boros Reckoner -- 6

Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip -- 5.7

Riders of Gavony -- 5.3

Odric, Master Tactician -- 5.3

Hellrider -- ???

Final tests will be done with Hellrider now...

HOW WILL IT SCORE?!

I am going out on a limb and saying it will be an 8.0 on your scoring system. I think Ghor-Clan Rampager having a RG cost for giving a card +4/+4 and trample and Spark Trooper having trample, haste, and lifelink are going to give you more results than Hellrider . I have been play testing this deck a lot and I never seem to get more than 3 or 4 creatures out at a time. Thus, Hellrider will only give you 3-5 damage for the four mana you used to cast it. Not only to mention you have to get to four mana before even playing it. I realize that there is still the attacking phase, but they could always chump block your guys still. I guess part of me likes holding back with Ghor-Clan Rampager because your opponent won't see it coming. You can easily win by having your opponent be dumb and not block a 2/2 with double strike and then pump him up to 6/6 with double strike. With Hellrider things are already kind of laid out on the table once you play it. That is just my 2 cents though

Sorry Vos, I have just been very intrigued by this deck after Gatecrash was released. I just wish I had more time to go to tournaments to try it out :( I guess the plus that this is if I go no one will probably remember what I am play, HA!

I was looking at some of the spoilers for Dragon's Maze. Do you think the card Armed-Dangerous may have a place in this deck?

Hey Vos, I registered on the site simply so I could say I love your deck, and have built it to take to my first FNM in two years tonight (took a little time off to have a kid.) Going with Ghor-Clan Rampager in the 4 spot mainly because it's more of a 2 drop and they just won't see it coming :)

Anyway, great deck, great fun to play, and nice work. You get my first +1.

:D thank you sir! I really appreciate the compliment!

Ghor-Clan Rampager is a really good choice. Wreck some face and have fun!

Because of the fact that this deck is 3 colors, I'm thinking that slayer's stronghold could be removed for a cavern of souls. You could even drop a searing spear for a boros charm if you feel that the double strike helps a lot.

what are your thoughts on Nearheath Pilgrim for the side board? personally I think it would help with mirror matches but it may hurt the speed, any ideas?

@catcherinbaseball

I used to run 4 Cavern of Souls back when i had Boros Reckoner in the main. At that time, having the Cavern of Souls was a burden. Often times, i would get a great hand, but would have 2 Cavern of Souls in my hand, and a Boros Reckoner , it made it very very awkward to play Boros Reckoner .

There are also many instances where i'd like to play a spell and play Boros Charm , having no lee-way in the cost for spells like that... colorless mana wasnt always efficient. And still isnt. I find now, with only 3 Cavern of Souls , I can get one to avoid counters (that nobody plays against my deck) and can still easily cast everything i need to. 3 is a perfect number, ive found, at least, for this deck. Boros Charm is more of a burn spell in this deck than anything... indestructible is the second most useful ability. I rarely use it for double strike... unless my Champion of the Parish is more than a 4/4. (otherwise you might as well burn their face for 4 for the same amount of damage)

@Falcomack

I have tried him, in days past. However, with the burst i offer, it almost doesnt even matter what my life total is. I can easily outrace other aggro decks, and find that the matchup is in my favor... unless i'm playing against RDW with a heavy heavy removal start. However... they would just remove Nearheath Pilgrim at that point, and it wouldnt make a difference. Centaur Healer would be better against those decks at that point.

NEW POSSIBLE 4 DROP??

April 15, 2013 9:59 a.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #14

That... could be pretty solid.

Now... will there be another way to make him attack the turn he is played? Besides the obvious Lightning Mauler ?

Could he be given haste efficiently?

April 15, 2013 10:10 a.m.

no the only way he could efficiently gain haste is Lightning Mauler any other way would take away from the deck for example Fervor could be added but i dont know how you could benefit from taking other things out to make room for it.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #16

Right.. However, him being indestructible could offer some safer ways to win. I mean, i constructed and morphed this exact deck to become the fastest in standard... Tajik doesn't necessarily help the speed... but he is very very powerful. He definitely has a solid place in a deck like this.

If you're comfortable not winning on turn 4, that is.

April 15, 2013 1:05 p.m.

Lol and i take it you wanna win on or before turn 4

April 15, 2013 1:12 p.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #18

That's what this deck is studying. To be the fastest deck in standard.

I have yet to find a combo to win on turn two in standard.

Using combos and Infernal Plunge , there is a way to deal 14 damage on turn 2... however... that's not 20.

This deck can win on turn 3 with more than a few different ways to get there.

Hellrider wins out at 8.6 rating.

The best finisher for aggro in standard... until Dragon's Maze at least...

April 17, 2013 1:36 p.m.

seems really difficult to pull off a turn 2 win lol

April 17, 2013 1:59 p.m.

but still pretty sweet that there is a possibility now!

April 17, 2013 2:01 p.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #25

It is very very difficult.

You need every single card, and you need to be on the draw.

You will have used 9 cards to complete the combo.

So no mulligans.

BUT!

It is 20 damage on turn 2.
